I'm sorry, it's not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Always keep irreplaceable images in more than one tool or platform. All my photos are in Google Photos, my laptop, and multiple USB drives.. Remember, it's easy to copy images from an iPhone using the charging cable.

Note: iCloud Photo backup and Google Photos don't play well together.. Don't use them simultaneously..

Also note: you probably can't miss it, but after June 1 all new photos will count against your Google account storage quota.

If you look under your profile circle right-up, you will see that you were backupping at original quality.

And if you shoot 4K videos with your iphone, 15 GB is filled very fast.

So it must be your own fault.

But you can have your content at Google compressed to high quality by pressing the recover storage button on photos.google.com/settings in the Safari-browser when you log-in with your Gmail-account and then wait a day (or more) to get your counter down to zero for Photos (check on one.google.com/storage).

If you really have such 4K videos, then they will get compressed to normal (2K) videos.

If you don't accept that, you need to start paying Google now.

Open Google Photos
Tab Library
Tap the desired folder under Photos on device
Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
- You can also long press and stroke down to select a batch
Tap the 3 dot menu top right
Tap Move to folder
Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create

Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos view and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if deleted using the Google Photos app.

You should also have a setting in your camera app which saves new photos to the SD card.

Next, clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.

Still you must be there, but I see in my app that below Advanced there is something more about Presented memories on top of the normal photostream and these items should be switched off also.

Sorry to note your are not finding your pictures.

However. photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-initiated action.

Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also. The same action happens when we delete something in Google Photos, the app removes the matching content from the phone too.

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days.

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;

Having tif-files on Google Photos is quite abnormal and you can't expect that the simple photoviewer on a simple Chromebook is able to show such an archaic fileformat which also takes a lot of space on the small disc, but also in Google-cloud.

On a normal Windows-computer you could have installed a batch-convertor like Irfanview to get good quality jpg-files before uploading. So why don't you have normal jpg-files?

PS: this problem does not have anything to do with Google Photos and with zips.

PS: just checked on my Chromebook - its photoviewer does not support tif-files indeed, but still you can copy them on an inserted sd-card or usb-drive.

So I downloaded all of my photos and it appears that only a few are .tif files. These appear to be pictures that were scanned in the early 2000's. Since this only affects maybe 30 photos I will just use a conversion website and convert them to .jpeg. Thank you for the quick response.

6700 normal picture files (no videos) will take about 33 GB if upload with the original setting, so that is minor compaired to 2000 GB (2 TB).

But check on photos.google.com in the Chromebrowser on your Android if you really see duplicates there, because duplicates don't exist in Google Photos. But it may be look-alikes with different metadata.

Like prof-cameras delivering two filetypes per image: raw and jpg.

Please come back with a bit more technical information because hiring 2 TB is quite abnormal also.

But most pictures need some general edits like a bit of straightening and cropping and then you also can try to improve the lighting by pressing the first button you will see in the editor.

Warning: for some special edits you need to pay nowadays, but if you don't need more storage at google it does not make sense to pay for these buttons only.

I'm not sure if I follow your suggestion. The Google Photos folder on Google drive, has several folders representing the date the picture was taken. The ones I'm upload are on Google Photos/2018/04/ folder. All pictures taken from the fone, are being shown on Google Photos and on Google drive as well. The opposite does not work. Pictures saved on drive are not being shown on photos. If I understood your suggestion, I should create a different folder to store those files. Should that folder be on the same level as the year folder, or on the roof of Google drive?

Did your delete action cross sixty days? If so, the bin removes those pics automatically.

Regretfully, once a picture is removed form the bin, there is no way to recover the pictures through google photos.
