How will I hide a folder?

Question: How will I hide a folder?

I have tried to hide some photos

Hi, Pritha Bhattacharya

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, the Google Photos app doesn't allow any facility to hide a folder.
You need to do that either through some file explorer or any other utility.

Answer:

Addition:
If this is just about hiding some photos instead of a complete folder, you simply can select them and then choose Archive under the 3 dots.
Then they are not really hided, but not shown in foreground anymore.
Else you need the Google Files app which has a password protected section.
But in general: your phone should be locked for others to prevent any unwanted actions.

One picture shows someone else and with my name isn't me

Hi, Barbara Steffek

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The face recognition feature is still evolving & is likely to err.

Nevertheless, you can rectify the error.
Tap to open the picture that identifies you wrongly & then slide that up.
Below the pic, you will find the thumbnails of all the identified faces & one edit icon near the left edge that looks like a pencil.
Tap on that & then a minus (-) sign will appear on each thumbnail.
Tap the one that belongs to you.
Now, that thumbnail will move down & the minus sign will get replaced by a plus.
Tap on that & the app will offer you the thumbnails of all the identified faces.
Select the one that identifies you correctly.
Once done, the pic will appear in the appropriate collection.

Hello. I actually needed to free up space because I was out of storage in my google account. So I wanted to remove my photos and videos from Google Photos because they are already saving on my iCloud account; but I was just afraid if I remove the stuff from Google Photos and they get removed automatically from my iCloud. Is it gonna happen or not?

If you go to https://photos.google.com/settings and hit Recover storage, Google Photos usage will go down to zero.

However, regretfully, the Google Photos app doesn't have a feature to describe the name of some colour.

Nevertheless, you can suggest that feature through the help & feedback route.
Once a sufficient number of users request the same feature, that may become available later on.

Hi, Susan Wasserman

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Did you receive photos through the sharing route? Or, through some other social media app?
When someone knows your contact details, spamming becomes possible.
Nevertheless, you can block the person to stop getting unwanted entries through Google photos.
To do so, tap the sharing icon at the top left corner.
Scroll down to find the album or picture that you received through this person.
Tap to open that entry. On the next page, you will find the profile icon of that person.
Tap on that.
Next, tap the three dots & select block the person.
That will stop all unwanted messages permanently.

Question: i want some images and that images deleted from google photos and also from trash so how i get back.

i want that images and its too important for me

Hi Jay,

Once you delete photos from Google Photos, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos but you may wish to review the following options:
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can recover the photos using a recover deleted photos app.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Can you please try viewing the photos collection through the web version of the app?
Please enter the link httpe://photos.google.com
See whether you can find all the pics from your previous phone.
If not, then the backup was incomplete.
If you have access to that old phone, please go through the settings & ensure everything gets backed up.
Once done, all the photos will be visible on the new phone also.
However, please note, the pics will reside on the cloud only & will not be brought into the memory of your new phone. Hence, there wouldn't be any folder.
If you wish to have every pic on your new phone also, then you will have to download that.

Copying the content from one phone to another may result in duplication of pics in Google Photos.
Still, to avoid any chance deletion of your pics, please use the option "Free up space" on your old phone & remove everything.
However, nothing is going to happen to your pics even if log out of your new phone.

My phone storage is nearly full, and 5.5GB of that is Google Photos user data. In the Photos app I tried using the 'delete from device everything safely backed up', and it says it's done it, and nothing left to clear.

But when I go offline, and open Google Photos, about 90% of the pictures are still there. I know I can individually delete them, but I'm not sure if that means they're not already backed up? How can I tell?

In my phone Settings, in Storage, if I go to the Google Photos app and click 'manage space', it says it will permanently delete DATA from signed in accounts, but photos and videos will NOT be deleted. I don't even know what all that data (5.51GB) can be if it's not the actual photos and videos.

I need to clear the space on my phone, but want to make sure everything is saved first. If the instruction to delete everything that's been backed up doesn't work, what do I do?

Answer:

Hi, G Duvall

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

When you are going offline, the Google photos app will continue to show some pics through the cached & stored data.
Please clear that through the setting on your phone while still offline. Then check whether the app shows something.
Further, the right option to create space on the device would be "Free up space". Are you finding some different wording like "Manage space"? If so, can you please check whether your app is updated?

Answer:

Hi, thank you.
The 'manage space' option I mentioned was in the Storage part of the Settings in my phone, when I look into the Google Photos app from there. (Within Google Photos it's 'Free up space', sorry I wasn't clear.) I've cleared the cache several times but it's only a few Mb or Kb each time, the bulk of the storage is showing in 'User Data'.

After clearing the cache I checked Photos again, and it looks like it's only the pictures on the Camera roll which are remaining - all other stored photos are deleted. In the 'back up device folders' section, it says at the top that the camera roll is automatically backed up. But for some reason when I chose the 'Free up space'' option it's not deleting those from the device, even though they're backed up, so I assume it's that folder which is taking up all the storage space. Is there any way I can make Photos delete the contents of that folder along with the rest?

I've attached pics of the option within the Settings/Storage/Google Photos section of my phone, showing the 'user data' which I can delete from there. But it specifically says photos and videos will NOT be deleted, so I'm not sure what it does, and I haven't dared try it in case it deletes all my settings etc.

Btw I checked and the app was last updated on 9th April, so should be up to date.

Answer:

Hi,  G Duvall

Thanks for your reply

You are at the correct settings on your phone.
You can safely remove the app data.
That doesn't remove any backed up pics & will never do so.

Once online, the app regenerates that once again.

Every app stores a lot of data locally. That is to give a fast response.
The Google photos app does so when most of the pics are on the cloud.
Still, this activity of clearing the data needs to be done periodically to refresh the content.

Hi, Kavita Chauhan

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-generated action.
Also, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps
and run a scan for anything to recover.

Question: how to upload to Google Photos from external drive where I have my PRIMARY Mac Photos Library

I have a Macbook Pro and because I have a lot of family photos AND videos, as well as a lot of photo…

I have a Macbook Pro and because I have a lot of family photos AND videos, as well as a lot of photos and videos for my work, I created two separate Mac Photos libraries on an external hard drive as my PRIMARY libraries (this was the suggestion of the Genius bar at an Apple store). What I have been doing is I manually select and upload photos and videos from my iPhone and other devices to these different libraries depending on whether they are for family or work. All these photos are NOT stored on my Macbook due to the lack of storage space. My actual Photo library on my Macbook is more or less empty.  Therefore, my photos are only stored on the external drive. I have the Family Photos library backed up on iCloud, for which I pay for extra storage monthly,  but I'm dissatisfied with iCloud because I don't like the automatic sync function. I  have it turned off. I want to store photos in the cloud but not have thousands and thousands of photos downloaded to my phone, IPad etc. It's not a good system because I can't automatically upload photos from my phone to iCloud when I want, because if I turn on sync mode, it will erase all the thousands of photos I have stored there that aren't on my phone.  At least that is how I understand the sync function as it is now. I want to use a cloud storage service in order to have a full archive of my photos, and I like the searchable/user friendly interface of Google Photos where my family might actually be able to look at them when they want to.  I understand I may lose some resolution...
So far, I have downloaded Google's Backup and Sync to my Macbook and connected my external drive, but I'm unsure which folder(s) I should choose from my external drive's library to upload to Google Photos in order to insure that I am getting all my family photos and videos saved on Google.
The folder names that appear under the Photos Library icon on my external hard drive are:
"Masks," "Masters," "Attachments," "Private" (seems to be software related to faces etc), "Resources," "Database." I assume it is the Masters folder that I want to choose to upload from? Under Masters though, there are additional folders: The first is named 1903 (??? this one has two movies in it which are listed from December 31, 1903 but judging from the thumbnail, they look like movies my kids made with Photobooth about 10 years ago). The rest of the folders are labeled 2013 through 2018. Under the "Resources" folder, there is also a "master" folder with various .mov and .jpegs in it.
I want to finally have a reliable backup photo/video library that I don't have to worry about -
Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

Answer:

Hi Karina,

You have described your setup very well and I hope to be able to guide you through the preferences in order to perform a suitable backup.  You say that actual your actual Photo library on your Macbook is more or less empty, I would suggest that you select the Masters folder there to 'proof' test the performance and make sure things work well before moving on to the Primary Library.

Are you starting with an empty Google Photos, as one thing to note if that if you have a Google Photos folder in My Drive there will be a clash with any previously uploaded photos and the folder will need to be Removed.

Here are example preferences for Windows (only viewable online) you have the option of 'Choosing' each of the year folders individually or the whole Masters folder.  My choice would be to start with the smallest year folder and add them individually to monitor progress.

Happy to explain in more detail,

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

It seems i have the same problem.
All my photos in a Photos-dabase file placed on an external harddrive. Because the different files are between 15 and 100 GB i don't want to copy them to my Mac.
Is it really not possible to upload them from this location? In don't need them to sync - its 10 year old photos.

Answer:

So, in english in short:
Google Photos recognize my images as 0.7mp ones, with ultra low resolution, but as you see in attachet images, the image in gallery as you can see is a lot more mp.

Already deleted a bunch of images with google photos, to save storage, but lost the original normal files, and now a lot of my images is in 0.7mp only :/

My phone have 13.1, 12, 8 and 20mp cameras.
And its total random which one is 0.7 in google photos.

Tried both free, and original image upload, same problem.

Phone is a Xiaomi, with Pie, latest update on apps, system.

Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.

1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

2). If you use a work/student account (G Suite), you should contact your Account Admin as they can restore files up to 25 days after deletion.

Question: Jab Main Google account Sig in kiya tab sabhi photo show ho rahe te yani nazar aa rahe te, ab nahi

Purane photo recover Nahin ho rahe hain

Hi, Brijesh Kumar Bagari

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Did you delete the old photos on your phone thining that it's OK to do so since everthing is backed up?
When we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa.

Question: How the copies of pictures in different albums are deleted?

Defferent copies of picture are delete.

Hi, Pradeep Yadav 7667

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, your query is unclear.
Do you want to remove some pictures which appear in multiple albums?
Please note, the basic picture remains the same. It's not a copy that appears in the different albums.

Answer:

Addition
If you have the same picture in several albums within Google Photos, they all refer to the same picture in the mainstream. And if you delete a picture there, it is gone from all albums.
Probably it comes back in all albums when you recover that pciture from the trash on the Library-page, but I did not check that yet.

I can upload my photos fromy phone to google, but if I delete the photos from my phone they are deleted from my Google photos. How do I stop this from happening? I wanna be able to delete pics from my ohone without loosing my backups on Google Photos.

Answer:

Hi, Elizabeth Bernard

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

What you are observing is the intended feature of the sync function.

Sync means that your photo library stays consistent across all devices that are signed in to your account with Google Photos.
For example, deleting a photo from one device will delete it from everywhere, and editing a photo on the web will edit the photo on the original device.
There is no setting available to alter this feature.

However, if you want to delete a picture without losing that on the cloud, you can follow either of these steps.
  • Use the option "Delete from device" through Google photos. That becomes visible when we tap to open a picture & slide up.
Or, use the option "Free up space" in the photos settings. That will remove all the pictures en-mass.
