How to recover permanently deleted photos

Question: How to recover permanently deleted photos

Hi,
If you have a question about recovering deleted photos/videos on Google Photos :

Please check in the Google Photos trash, maybe there are the photos/videos you are looking for. (Open Google Photos --> Trash)
If the photos/videos are permanently deleted, I think you cannot restore them.

Regards,

Question:

Hi, मजीद अलीN

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Sorry to note your are not finding your pictures of the year 2004.

However. photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-initiated action.
Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also. The same action happens when we delete something in Google Photos, the app removes the matching content from the phone too.

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days.

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.

We work in a product testing/development environment. We take about 500 photos a day using 2 separate devices, each backing up automatically to Google Photos.

Recently, automatic synchronisation from Google Photos to Google Drive has been disabled by Google (Why?!).
We used this feature so that we could view Google Photos content on Windows File Explorer via the Google Backup and Sync app.

These photos need to be accessible by around 10 different people, and real-time photo uploads are crucial to keep product reports moving fluidly:
With the way it used to work, by the time someone gets back to their PC from the lab, the photos are normally visible.

Now that Google have switched off Google Photos/Google Drive integration, we don't know what to do and this process has ground to a halt.

Is there any way we can get the same core functionality again? i.e. Take a photo on a phone, the picture automatically uploads to the cloud and can be visible on a PC within seconds/minutes.

Answer:

Hello Contract Candles,

For new photos taken on mobile I have the OneDrive app installed with settings to upload new photos to the OneDrive cloud where they go into the camera roll. I have the camera roll synced to my HD where I manually move them to add to my photo archive.  Moving them deletes from OneDrive where they are stored in the recycle folder for 30 days. Deleting from the cloud doesn't feed back to the mobile device. Dropbox is an alternative, I use OneDrive as it is integrated with my Windows computer.

This is an alternative method of getting the photos to my HD where I can store them securely. The photos are backed up to Google Photos as normal from the mobile device,

Peter

Answer:

This is nuts.  Is there no simple way to access my photos now from windows explorer?  Ie. If I take a picture with my phone I cannot get it to auto sync with my desktop anymore?  This was the primary benefit of google photos.  It's just a web dump now.  Why doesn't backup and sync support two way sync of photos like it does with everything else?  This is such basic functionality.

Answer:

This is insane.  Most people want two-way sync, so they can backup copies of the photos on their phone before cleaning photos to make space (on phone).  WTH, Google?

Answer:

I use Google Photos Sync as a one way backup of my Google Photos Library. Then, once a month I backup up from there to an external drive. For that, I use 'Beyond Compare' which shows me what has changed before copying to the external drive.

That way, if an accidental delete has occurred on one of my devices and been synchronized to all Google synced devices, I get a heads up before the external drive backup and can restore from there.

Google photos taken with my iphone are instantly showing on the Google Photos app but not on https:/photos.google.com since January 2018 (using Safari on a Mac).  Backup & sync is enabled on the App.

How can I fix this?

Answer:

Hello Gavin,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

I certainly understand how important those files to you. Since you've mentioned that the photos missing or aren't available on web version of the Google Photos (photos.google.com) and not on the Google Photos App, it looks like the photos aren't backed up properly to your Google Photos account.

Meanwhile, let you know that you will see your files in Google Photos even if it is not backed up to it. It just acts as a gallery app when the backup and sync is "OFF".

Also, I'd recommend you try restart your computer first. It might sound simple, but sometimes that's all it takes to fix the issue. If restarting don't work, try checking it on a different browser than the one you're using to see if it is a browser related issue. If it works and you want to see it on the original browser, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies. If that doesn't help, also try the below steps and see if it helps resolve the issue:
Keep me posted.

Best,
Sonya

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, regretfully, your query is not related to some feature in the Google Photos app.

Nevertheless, WhatsApp hides the media folder from visibility to other apps, usually.
But, you will find directions on how to unhide that on WhatsApp help pages.

Hi! I'm looking for an option for my friends to send photos from their cells phones to a central location in Google Photos so everyone can see all the photos from our recent event. Does Google Photos have that option?

Answer:

Create a shared album and invite all your friends to it. Be sure collaboration is turned on and then your friends can upload their photos to this same album. Everyone will have the option of adding the others' photos to their own library if they would like or they can just view them in the shared album.

I downloaded Google Photos and selected the option to sync my photos and videos from Google Drive.

They were all synced to my Google Photos app but they aren't in the albums that I put them in within Drive.

I created lots of different folders within Drive so that my photos were organised and expected that when I synced Drive with the Photos app, they would transfer over but this isn't the case.

The photos have synced over but they appear in one long list within the 'photos' tab.

Also, some are in chronological order based on when they were taken but others appear in the order when they were uploaded onto Drive (e.g - photos taken in Oct 2015 appear with photos taken in Jan 2018 as this is when I uploaded them to Drive)

Is there a way I can get the albums to appear in the Photos app or do I need to go through and create them all again?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:

Hi Laura,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to get the albums of your Google Drive to appear in Google Photos app. That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedback about it through the following steps:
  • Open Google Photos.
  • Click on Menu.
  • Select Send feedback.
  • Click on Send.
The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.

However, you can create an album in your Google Photos through the below steps:
  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app.
  • Sign in to your Google Account.
  • Touch and hold a photo, and then select the photos you want in your new album.
  • At the top, tap Add.
  • Select Album
  • Optional: Add a title to your new album.
  • Tap Done.
For more information, please check the Help Center Article on creating a new album.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Emma

Hi, Mohini sharma

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

I suggest you go through these steps to refresh the app
First, deactivate the face grouping.
Next,  clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.
You can do that through these steps.
  • On your Android phone, open the Settings.
  • Tap Apps and notifications.
  • Tap Show all apps.
  • Tap Google Photos.
  • Tap Storage and cache.
  • Tap Clear storage.
  • Next, uninstall the Google Photos app.
  • Power off the phone & then restart.
  • Install the latest version of the Google Photos app through the Play Store.
Log into your profile & and activate the face grouping once again.
The app may take six to eight hours to bring back the grouping.

Nevertheless, if the faces are blurred, or the images are not front facing, the app may repeat the same error.

Hi Deepak,

If the deleted photos are still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore them as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

I am trying to delete photos from my device without deleting them from Google photos. When trying to use Google photos to delete pictures from device it is deleting them from my device and Google photos. It is also saying there is no space to free up although my device is loaded with pictures and videos.

Answer:

Hello Faye,

The delete options on Android are as follows, always check on photos.google.com before deleting any photos. If they are not backed up they will be lost forever.
  1. Free up space checks that a photo is backed up then deletes it from the local storage
  2. Delete in the Google Photos app using the trash
    • Deletes both the device copy and the backed up web copy
    • If internet access is available the photo is put in the web trash and is permanently deleted after 60 days
    • If Internet access is not available the photo is put in the app trash and is permanently deleted after 30 days or when the app data is deleted
  3. Delete in the app using the 3 dot option to Delete from the device, either singly or by selecting a batch
    • The photos remain backed up and can be seen both in the app and on the web
  4. Delete using a Gallery app (Gallery Go etc)
    • The photos remain backed up and can be seen both in the app and on the web

Plz how do I delete annoying Google titles/ captions applied to my photos
Just saw it when Google sent me the
Photo from 1 year ago - in the memories section...

Answer:

@Jess
These "titles" are not really fixed on these photos if you look to the originals in your photostream one year agoo. When you put your finger at the right border, you can walk through the years.
Maybe best to switch-off these memories completely in the settings under your profile.

PS: complaints should be send straight to Google via the feedback option in the app because this forum is run by volonteers.

Question: Unsync my phone from Google photos

I have been backing up my Android phone's photos to Google photos for a few years now but I want to …

I have been backing up my Android phone's photos to Google photos for a few years now but I want to stop doing this to avoid having to pay for storage which I'm now told I need to do.  I have just turned OFF "backup and sync" for the account used for this, but when I then start to delete the  already backed up photos from Google "photos" they also get deleted from my devices gallery! How can I remove the Google photos without affecting the photos from my phone's gallery?

Answer:

Hi, Con Andrews

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Once you have the app, the sync function removes the content from both the cloud and your phone.
To stop that, first, uninstall (or disable) the Google Photos app.
Next, visit the link https://photos.google.com through any browser on your phone.
Once done, then log into your account & then delete all the pics one by one.
Alternatively, you can tap the three dots, tap select pictures & then go on picking each day to cover multiple pictures.
Beyond that, there is not much scope to accelerate the deletion process on an Android Phone.

You don't need to pay for everything stored before June 1.
So what is your usage at one.google.com/storage now (3 numbers please)?
And don't start to delete anything before having told this to us.

Question: My photos and videos by mistake deleted yesterday i want RECOVER

Hi, KRUNAL MISTRI

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
When we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.
