Photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-generated action.

Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps 

and run a scan for anything to recover.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync only a predefined folder from from your Google Drive to Google Photos. That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedbackabout it through the following steps:

Open Google Photos.
Click on Menu.
Select Send feedback.
Click on Send.

The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.

Have you activated the data saver in the settings of the phone?

Once you include some folder in the backup & sync action, everything contained in that will get backed up.
The only option to see that some items are not getting backed up is to move those to another folder that is not included in the backup.

Things are more complex, and I will give more detail.

I never delete the photos on my phone, all my operations did on the cloud.

The problem is, I didn't do any operation on my local device, but after I delete my photos on the cloud, local photos are disappear, I check my storage on my phone and figure out the files still on the phone but it converted to other format files (you can see 115G files in others)

Thus I guess the application may change the type of the file or make it a .db file, so how can I recover it.

However, what you are observing is the design feature of the "Sync" functionality.

Sync means that your photo library stays consistent across all devices that are signed in to your account with Google Photos.
For example, deleting a photo from one device will delete it from everywhere, and editing a photo on the web will edit the photo on the original device.

The Sync operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.
In this way, if we delete something from the cloud backup, that deletes the corresponding one on the phone & vice versa.

We can override that functionality temporarily by deactivating backup & sync.

However, the moment we reinstate that, the app starts synchronizing all the pooled up actions.

Still, try to find something in the bin & recover that.

Ok, now I got the rules, but unfortunately, I have already deleted the photos which in the bin, so I can not recover them by myself on the cloud.

However, I think such a design is unreasonable.

The purpose of users using cloud disks is not to do device management, but to upload data to the server to release local space. All the cloud services I use frequently do not allow operations on the cloud to affect local operations.

The management of local files should be done by the users themselves, especially I will decide which photos to delete after a second confirmation locally.

I delete photos on the web. My purpose should be to free up space on my cloud server instead of my local space.

If I had to guess, some algorithm is trying to arrange them using geo-location + time, but since I have pictures from 4 devices that don`t all have GPS and are not all set at the same local time, the results are disastrous. Without a "sort by date taken" function Google Photos has become useless to me and I quite loved it until now. Is there any chance for a sorting function or a disabling of this algorithm/function? Hi Andrei, I haven't noticed 'by date' being disabled, the only observation I have at the moment is that the DateTaken field is being used and 'None set' being used for the time zone, which means all time are being presented as UTC . Could this explain why the order is being modified compared with the previous Google Photos Backup which appeared to take into account the time zone of the local network at upload. It isn't a problem for me as I upload in batches according to the device used then batch apply the correct time zone. I'm not sure I could even present it as a bug if the actions are consistent for a single device batch, it could quite easily be 'by design' What we normally do is to collate reports until it is being reported by a significant number of users before submitting a bug report. Hello and thanks for the reply. I have thousands of photos on my home PC, 3-4.000 for each trip we take, each trip with it`s 4 folders (2 phones and 2 cameras). All were auto uploaded with Desktop Uploader and now with Backup & Sync to Google Photos. Until now the only discrepancy in timeline was from the phones that adjusted to the local time of the country we were in whereas the cameras staid set on our home local time. (So the pictures were sorted by "Date/Time Taken" not by "Date/Time Uploaded). The thing is that now some pics from the camera (non GPS-local Romania Time) seam to skip forward to another location where I have a pic from one of the GPS enabled phones ("new country" local time). The time of the pics also change in a weird manner. I have pictures taken second apart with one camera that show on GP at different hours and locations. I hope it`s just a temp thing from the new sync function but we will see. I really don`t want to start uploading on different accounts or start using some offline program.

Sorry, but as far as I know it is not possible to password-protect a folder on Google Drive / Google Photos.

I have a Samsung S21 device, have been using google photos for years. Storage still shows available 9/15gb. However 5 days ago, google photos backup upload seems to move tremendously slow. One video of 30 second still is backing up after 24 hours. On top of that photos being collaborared on isnt refreshing promptly either. Not the case for other devices in the same household using the same wifi. I've also uninstall and reinstall the app 2x, and have cleared apps cache. The only thing that works is reinstalling it. Only for the issue to continue. So not wifi problem, not a device problem, not a storage problem, not an update problem. How do I fix this issue?

But what about the storage space on your S21?

And what about the permissions of the app to work in background and not being disturbed by some fancy battery savings setting?

Re-installing never makes sense unless the app is in total disorder, but then resetting maybe a better tric:

Under your profile choose use without account.
Close the app and restart the phone.
Restart the app and log-in with your account and the right settings for backupping when you have good wifi for some hours.
Let the app rebuild until finished and hopefully all problems are solved.

But then you can remove that video - it will be the next file after the picture on top of photos.google.com

If removed on the Photos-page of the app, the corrupt file also will be deleted from phonestorage.

So may need to copy the file in a non-synced folder or just accept that it get lost forever.

PS: the advanced S21 may produce special files which are not compatible with Google Photos and thereby will cause problems very often. If so, you can send a feedback straight to Google via that feature under your profile right-up.

Today it's my 9th application for movie creation on Google Photos but still it shows the message that "you will receive a notification when movie is created." Better I'll get positive response from Google's team otherwise I have to go for other options or applications.
