Also some things that have been happening with my old emails I can't access. Things are being set up in my name to make it look like I'm starting these dating site profile's. Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to backing upyour photos/videos from your Android device to Google Photos? If yes, to Backup your photos/video, before you start, make sure you're signed in.

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
Sign in to your Google Account.
At the top, tap Menu .
Select Settings Back up & sync.
Tap "Back up & sync" on or off.

Things to keep in mind about this setting:

Changing backup settings will affect all apps that use Back up & sync, such as Google Drive.
If you have Back up & sync on, deleting the Google Photos app from your device will not turn it off. To turn off Back up & sync, follow the instructions above.

If you've lost your photos and they don't show up in Google Photos. Maybe the videos weren't uploaded successfully at the first place to Google Photos (cloud). Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon

(which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videoswill also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

When I say manually saving, I have the conversion open in Messenger, tap the photo and then select save from the more options. If I don't do this, they don't appear anywhere. Just stay in Messenger.

I know google changed the backup options and have reselected Messenger for backup since then. I also pay Google for extra storage and have lots of space left.

Aware that the quality of the photos I'm being sent will be reduced but this is the way they're sent to me. I'd rather have low resolution backups than nothing at all. 😊

Then it is totally unclear why the manually saved pictures do appear in your filemanager, but not in the messenger-folder in the Google Photos Library unless these files are not compatible anymore.

Maybe you can attach such a file to your reply via the paperclip - they we can try to understand what is missing.

The stronger compression of these social media files is not the main problem, but it is the complete stripping of all relevant metadata (that also happens with WA). And on some bad day in future you will get into great troubles with that when storing your collection on disc or sd: then they all get the actual date of saving instead of their original dates of sending which often is quite close to their exposure dates.

And seeing their random filenumbers, their original dates can't be reconstructed either unless the original messages still do exist.

Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

Since your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

It's not clear to me what you did exactly.

"Clear up space" is a function in the Google Photos app on mobile devices, which deletes photos from your device when they have been uploaded to Google Photos. Did you use that function?
Or did you delete photos in the Google Photos app on your phone? That would also delete the photos from the Google Photos cloud when "Backup and sync" is activated.
Did you then "restore" them from the Google Photos trash ? That would bring them back to the Google Photos cloud, but not to your phone. The Google Photos app should show the cloud copy, but the Gallery or other File managers will not show them

I figured out the problem. So what I have to do was go into google photos and specifically locate my phone's albums which should be the bottom right. Find the Whatsapp album and click that. The top right should be an on and off switch for backing up and in my case, the album was turned off for backup. Just toggle that too on and it should start backing up your WhatsApp photos.

I understand how important the photos are for you and I'll try my best to help. It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Amanda, I appreciate your rapid reply! Again I only have one account so that's the one I'm using on all platforms. I have just noticed that on my iPhone, the app says that it's backing up 6,000-odd photos. The question is: why did it used to do this incrementally, every time I added photos to it, but then one day, no longer? At some point it just stopped backing them up, even though I'm almost always on wi-fi, and I leave the apps open on both the phone and the computer, to make doubly sure that they'll back up. So it stopped backing them up, leading to this bottleneck now of 6,000 photos. Well, it says it's backing them up now, on my phone, so let's see what happens if I leave it to do that. Hopefully it was some odd code glitch and it won't happen again, as there doesn't seem to be a good answer for the phenomenon.

The app may be showing the groups through the cached data.

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com

If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash

Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos.

3. Review other options

if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.

90% of the videos I have that are slow motion will not download from google photos back onto my iPhone. It just keeps saying error downloading try again later. I have tried over a few days and nothing has changed. I have force closes the app, made sure it was updated, and tried all of the different ways to download it, and nothing works. I have also tried to send the videos to my email or files to download it to my phone from there, but it won't let me send it in any way. This is extremely frustrating, as I need to be able to access these videos.

I am not sure whether you mean the device local storage, SD card storage, or online Account storage.

If you could take a screenshot of the notification and attach it to your reply using the paperclip to the right of the Post option it would help enormously,
