Is there a way to turn off / disable the sound, but *not* the notification itself (not the Google Photos image icon) in Partner Sharing on mobile phones?

In the Notifications settings there is only this :
When new photos are added by [name of partner] : on / off

It would be nice if it could be this:
When new photos are added by [name of partner] : sound / silent / off

Thank you in advance :-)

Answer:

Hello Julie,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community, I haven’t checked but if you go to the bottom of the notifications screen and tap Notification settings on this device then tap on Sharing there is a Silent option.

If that doesn’t work, we do not have a process to enable us to pass feature requests to the Google Photos team.

Please reach out to Google using the feedback option--> Leave Feedback (click here to see full article)
I can assure you this feedback goes directly to the Google Photos team and is used in management reports to drive the roadmap for new or modified features.

Thanks Peter for your helpful reply ! :-)

I just realized that there were more options underlying the sub categories in Notifications and that I had to just tap on it and for some reason I was thinking it was just text and not a button ;-)

On Android, go into Google Photo Notifications :
There are 3 main categories ; Backup / Memories / Other
Scroll down to Other and tap on the sub category Sharing and then you will enter it's related options:
Tap on Advanced, tap on Sound and tap on None then tap on OK
Optional : Tap to turn off Vibrate too if desired

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Julie

Question: How do I permanently delete account or transfer to another person

Hello Lance,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

If no, please let me know.

Regards,
Amanda

I have restarted my device and updated the google photos to latest version but i'm still facing issue in backing up photos also unable to retrieve older photos.

Answer:

Hi, Aditya Jain 1826

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

I suggest, you deactivate the backup & sync for time being.
Next, clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.
You can do that through these steps.
  • On your Android phone, open the Settings.
  • Tap Apps and notifications.
  • Tap Show all apps.
  • Tap Google Photos.
  • Tap Storage and cache.
  • Tap Clear storage.
  • Next, uninstall the Google Photos app. If your phone doesn't permit uninstallation, then please roll back all the updates.
  • Power off the phone & then restart.
  • Install the latest version of the Google Photos app through the Play Store.
Log into your profile & see whether that helps to overcome the current problem.
Nevertheless, if the backlog of backup is very high, the app may stall frequently.
I suggest, you try switching over to some high-speed data network till the backup is completed.

I am the owner of an album, I just want to delete all photos I uploaded, but not the ones that others added in the album. Is there a way to filter those?

Answer:

Shaira,

Good evening. You can remove the pictures you added to a shared album by selecting them and choosing "Remove From Album" in the drop-down menu (click the 3-dot icon in the upper right corner). At this time, however, there is no function that can filter or sort the view to display only your pictures, so you'll have to scroll through the album and select your contributions one by one.

I am trying to see MP4s in Google Photos I copied from google drive.  I've read all the docs, sync drive and photos was already on.  I just want this one MP4 to show up.

Answer:

You can't copy from Drive to Photos, so I do think you have copied the file into the Google Photos folder in Drive and that does not work, because that optional folder is for showing what is uploaded to Photos.

You really have to download that file to your computer and then upload in https://photos.google.com using the UPLOAD-button right-up.

And if you already sync normal Drive-folders to Photos, the MP4 should already be shown somewhere deep down in the Photos-library on the date of the video. And then uploading again does not work either.

Answer:

Thanks for the reply.  Its >700MB, when I've tried to upload it, its failed multiple times.   I used the google sync feature to get it into the cloud.

Why should I have to do all this work just to make photos see it?  Make it easy google!  I think other formats this works, why not video too?   (as far as I can tell from the documentation, I didn't try it)

Answer:

I'm having the same problem. the file is in Google Drive but doesn't show up in Google Photos after I have followed the instructions to turn on Google Drive sync files in Google Photos. The file is an mp4.
All of this is to upload the file to YouTube. I don't have it saved on my PC. It's in the online Google Drive. Tried downloading to my PC first but that doesn't work.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, regrettably, the Facebook app allows receiving pics through Google Photos only to include as a news feed.
To use any picture as a profile photo, you need to download that to your phone's gallery. Then Facebook can access that for further action.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

If all your photos are backed up from your Android device gallery to Google Photos and you're trying to make some device space by deleting photos, that wouldn't delete them from Google Photos library then I'd recommend using the 'Free up space' option of Google Photos to do so.

I don't know how I set up Google to back up my photos but it did and now I can't use GMail. I use another and better cloud storage service anyway and want ALL my files removed from Google. But all the instructions I find tell how to do just a few "albums" at a time. That will take months. I just want to trash them ALL. How?

Hi Don,

See the first 4 answers in this thread:

I have never used the Deletion tool in Github, but imagine it might be a rathole if you are not fairly technical.

Remember, you don't need to do it all at once. You just want to get your gmail working again then you can go at a slower pace.   You might clean up these as they are higher payback.

Don't forget to "Empty trash" periodically during clean-up and remember it might take some time for the clean-up to be reflected in you storage quota: https://www.google.com/settings/storage

It will be important to figure out how the images got there in the first place.. It sounds like Backup & Synch is turned on for at least one of your devices.

When I take a photograph it makes a duplicate and puts it in a file called raw I don't want to file called raw how do I permanently completely totally utterly utterly get rid of it it makes it to where I have to try to resend photos twice because it always picks the raw one first never used to have a raw folder and it's just something that has happened recently I don't like it I don't want it I want that option gone how do I make that happen

Answer:

That is not done by Google Photos, but probably you are using a specialised camera-app set for producing raw+jpeg files and that is why you get look-alikes.
Raw alone would have some benefits when using specialised editors for creating somewhat better jpegs then the camera does automatically, but to my opinion this is useless for smartphone camera's.
That's more a speciality for professional photographers with thick camera's and desktop computers with expensive software.
Besides: when using the high quality setting in Google Photos, raw files are converted to jpeg-files automatically and then you would have two look-alikes of about the same quality.
Best

Answer:

@Jason
There is no settings within Google Photos which can cause this - if not done yourself, it must be due to a recent update of your phone.
So look carefully through the camera-settings because producing raw-files maybe a somewhat hidden option. Or you may have installed a more professional camera-app.
You really must find-out yourself because this is no general Google Photos problem which can be escalated. Sorry.

Question: I did not find my backup photos

I backup my photos 1 year ago.but now i did not find any photo..

Hi, Pankaj Kumar 1438

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Sorry to note you are not finding 1 year back photos?
However, did you delete those on your phone assuming that everything is backed up?

Otherwise, Photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-generated action.
Further, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa.

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.

    Hi,

I recently edited some photos taken 6 months ago. All the edits were made to RAW pics using iOS Photos extensions (editors were Polarr and Pixelmator Photos, mostly).

Google Photos noticed changes in the photos and updated the relevant thumbnails; all the pics were in their right place in the general "Photos" section (sorted chronologically).

I also have an album set to automatically add any picture of family members. In the album, the edited photos appear last, as if the album sort is considering "last edited" dates instead of the creation date. I suspect it may be reading the creation date of the sidecar JPG file…
