I am scared to do anything. Don't wish to lose my photos forever

The application has stopped working on my molbile . If I uninstall and then re install the application will it work. Also will my photos be safe and not get deleted

Answer:

Uninstalling and reinstalling the App on your phone will not affect any images that are on your phone or have been backed up to Google Photos. (To confirm that images are in fact backed up to Google Photos, by the way, go to a laptop or other device other than the one that captured the photos, navigate to photos.google.com and sign into your account; if the images are not there, they are not backed up but may merely be queued to back up.)

Before you uninstall and reinstall, though, try this first: open the Google Photos App; go to Menu (three short-horizontal lines in upper left); next to your email address select the small down-triangle; select Remove Active Account; shut down your phone; restart your phone; open the Google Photos App and sign in to your account again.

Let me know if this helps (and if it does please select the Recommend button below this post so that others can more easily find the solution to similar problems).

Answer:

Hi Dipika Jhunjhunwala!
In any case, you can delete the application, because all your photos are in the device Gallery (or rather, into the internal memory of the device) Therefore, you can copy your photos from the device, and not have the Photos application. You can check for backups in Photos using your browser at this link https://photos.google.com

Answer:

@Dipika: Just to be clear, Tanya is not giving you different advice. Not sure why Tanya mentions that you can copy images from your Gallery after uninstalling the App; while this is there is no need to this before uninstalling the App (except that it is always a good idea to have backup of copies at all times, which is why I mentioned checking photos.google.com to be sure that you have a backup). Let us know how it goes.

Question: My photos have clubed with my son's pics

@Trupti
If your son have used your account in the backupsettings of the Google-app on his phone automatically get mixed with your own pictures of course. So your account should be removed form his settings and replaced by his own account.
That action will not remove anything from him in your account, so they need to be removed manually in your app.

I just today learned that I can save a "look" in Snapseed. I would like to save a look created during an editing session several days ago. When I open the photo that has the look I want to save, it does not show my edits/stack. How can I view or retrieve the series of edits made on a photo that was edited and saved during an earlier session?

Answer:

The edited pictures are shown in the Snapseed folder on the albumpage of the Google Photos app with the most recent one on top and mostly that also is your most recently edited one.

Answer:

Hi, I know how to retrieve the edited photo; what I am wondering about is whether there is a way to view the individual edits made to that photo (the stack) when I reopen the edited photo in a new session. So far, it seems as though I can only view the stack during the session when I actually make the edits, and then when I save and close the photo, it is as though it "flattens" (for lack of a better word) the stack. I want to retrieve the stack so that i can save it as a new look/filter to be able to use it again in the future, but I can't figure out a way to do that now that I am in a new editing session.

Answer:

Sorry that I have misinterpreted your question.

I have too less thorough experience with Snapseed to answer your question, but if you go to Help and feedback under the 3 dots and then to Helpcentre, you can learn a lot about "Stacks".
Perhaps more easy to read and print on computer via https://support.google.com/snapseed
Good luck with "stacking"

PS: even the standard editor on Google Photos has an option under the 3 dots to copy the edits before you press Ready. And when you open the next pixture for editing, you can select Paste edits under the 3 dots etcc etc. Quite surprising.

Answer:

Thanks, the help topic seems to only cover the option of saving a look during the same editing session for future use. I haven't been able to find anything that talks about how to "read" edits previously applied in order to save a look during a subsequent session. :/

Answer:

To me that seems asking too much from a free editor app - it does not produce thick psd-files like Photoshop in the past on your computer.
But you can send a feedback to the Snapseed team via the 3 dots - maybe you even get a personal answer.
As far as I am aware of the old Snapseed forum does not exist anymore.

Question: I want to back up picture which deleted after 60 days

I want my loose pictures because it is very important for me

Hello Ibra,

Please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried.

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them.

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

3. Review other options
  • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
  • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.

I take pictures of my dog.  I go to sleep & when I wake up they're gone.  I don't share anything but apparently I am sharing all over Google.  Thanks to Google & a Developer/ Hacker/ Stalker/ Bully I am not allowed to have a phone or keep pictures.  I have lost, (they've died)  2 of my Babies & now I have absolutely no pictures of them.  This makes me feel really stupid.  I am old on my own.  And apparently very clueless.  I don't know how to fix.  Please don't give me the same spill about back up & sync.  I don't have or use a computer yet there's INE attached to my calender & me.  I have no idea who it is.  You can't help me so do am not asking.  I just know that,  " THANKS TO GOOGLE & DEVELOPER I AM NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A PHONE OR A LIFE.

Answer:

@Cammie
Smartphones are much too complex for most of us, just because they are made for everyone and not for you and your dog only. And managing photos always has been complex, but in the very past you simply could glue your prints on paper in some scrapbook. And in fact you should go back to that stage with a simple digital compact camera and a printstation in your neighbourhood. And then exchange your smartphone with a simple cell for phoning and sms-ing only.
Or you need an old but vaccinated nerd in your environment with enough patience and time to help you out almost every week.
Sorry - we can do no more for you - just (old) volonteers here, but not at home.

PS: when I shoot a picture and check if can see it in the Google Photos app, it will stay there forever unless deleted by me or by some automatic cleaning app installed by you or by someone else (maybe that app is named Google One and does that have a clean-up function activated by you ???)

Hi, Hasib Siddiqui 7162

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Nevertheless, when you tap the delete icon in the Google Photos app, a warning appears telling you what will happen if you proceed. On your phone, that message asks, "Remove from Google account & synced devices?"

When you attempt to manually empty the trash/bin in Google Photos, another warning appears that explains the consequences of permanently deleting those pictures and videos.
If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

Question: Old school email no longer active, can I access my google photos still?

Hi Cristina,

>>>> I had a college email tied to all my photos, now the school did away with alumni emails and I cannot log in to view photos.

The only thing that might work would be to contract the school's Google Administrator and see if they made some provision to allow recovery of the accounts.  Ask them if you can just get access for a couple of weeks to recover your photos (then share them to a personal account and "Share to library" and confirm that all of your photos are visible in the personal account).

We don't have access to your account or person files here.

Always save irreplaceable important images in more than one place / tool.

Good luck, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user).

To unhide a person in people & pets, please tap view all.
Next, tap the three dots at the top right corner & tap on "Hide & show people"
Scroll down to find the thumbnail named "mitu".
There you will find a similar symbol of an eye with a slash across that. Tap on that once & then the person will become visible in the collection.

If you put a picture in the archive to get it off the main page, then delete it off the main page, why does it delete it out of the archive? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the archive? Same thing with putting pics in an album. If u delete it off the main page, it's deleted out of the album.

Answer:

@Claire
After moving to archive, there is nothing to delete on in the mainstream. Unless with backup off, because then you stil will see the local picture(s) which should not be deleted (if you want to do that, you should do that in the device folder on the Library page or in a separate gallery).

Albums created in Google Photos do not contain copy files, but links to the mainstream only. So if you remove a picture from the mainstream, that link becomes dead and the picture will not be shown in the album anymore. But the picture still is in trash and if recovered from there, it will become visible in the album again.

@James
It only is interesting how many you have at Google (photos.google.com) really, although that does not say anything about the amount of storage they use, unless they were uploaded in original quality always.
Even Google does not show the right number on your account dashboard, but there is a strange workaround:
  1. Open a new mail message in the Gmail-app and hit the paperclip right-up and select Folders.
  2. Then search for Google Photos and do select the app.
  3. Then you will see the number of pictures and some device folders and (maybe) some albums.
  4. Undo all and remove the empty message unless you need to write one.
Good luck

Hello Rashma,

I'm sorry, but the photos can't be restored if the trash is emptied.

Don't see the photo or video?
If something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash

I accidentally partner shared with my girlfriend but the "All Time" Button was selected. Now that I removed her from being a partner she still has all of my photos from All time. Is there a way to remove those photos without going through thousands of them on her phone and deleting them?

Answer:

@Kurt
Most people use automatic saving all and that means that the content of the partner is added to their own library and that content will stay there - even after breaking the partnership.
So she (or you) only can delete one-by-one and that will be a hell of a job. But if these additons don't take space in her account (check at one.google.com/storage), they will not start to take space after June 1 either. If not, come back to report.

Google photos is renaming my photos with a bunch of numbers Why? I have so many issues with Google photos that have started in the last couple of months it is a very sad thing.  When I try to write something all of a sudden it closes so I never get to send a report.  I have been having so many issues with my photos ever since I first signed into Google 1.  Since then I have been locked out of my account 3 different times, had to change my password in order to get back into my Google account, had to delete so many of the e-mail info. That I kept so that I would have the information on how to deal with different things that I do on my devices, Google Photos, Google Drive as well as G-mail are suddenly full wanting me to buy more storage, I could go on and on.  The fact is that none of this happened in the years before only after I signed into Google 1 that I had understood was giving more storage once I signed into it!  What a mess, I have my files renames now, I cannot download most of the time, when I try to move my photos, which I have moved over 2000 of them in-between Photos shutting down on me every time I try so it is taking some time.  I could go on and on but soon this is going to shut down as well.  I have so many problems now with y Google photos, Google drive, and G-mail I need help but Google does not care. ANYONE ELSE?

Answer:

This forum is run by experienced volonteers - so no Google here.
Besides I have been a computer trainer for many years and I also have helped many at home - women mainly. But some hardly could be helped at all because they were too chaotic and you seem one of these.
So you need a vaccinated old nerd in your environment with a lot of time and patience to get your main problems solved behind your own screen(s).
We hardly can do that from here.
For the moment you only can press the Recover storage button on photos.google.com/settings and then wait some days - then your mailproblems will be solved - hopefully. And be sure to use the high quality setting in the app on phone and in the site on your laptop to prevent new problems after June 1.
Sorry.

PS: I have used many Google-apps since 2005 and they never have changed my foldernames and I still use the same account. So that makes it it even more hard to understand your confusing problems.

And you have much too much extension-icons and there always are some which may cause troubles for Google Foto's. And cleaning-up your browserhistory every month also can prevent troubles.

PS: don't understand why you are posting twice and why you are using capitals because they make text less good readable.

Answer:

Thank you very much because as you can see this is getting to be a problem and it is happening every single time that I open my Google Photos.  I put icons in the front of the file name so that I can find files easier and when it is renamed it takes those away  Then I have to clean it up once again and it just is the same way next time I go to photos.  But I am going to do what you said to and I am very thankful for your reply.  These file names you only see about 1/4 of it because they are very long.

Answer:

No need to repeat your screenshot for the third time because it does not explain anything.
Album-names should be short and should not contain abnormal characters or icons like shown below:

And you can insert a textbanner above the pictures by choosing TT to be able to type a longer description as shown (in Dutch). Initially the banner will be placed below the first row, but you drag the banner below the title. Just try this way and you will have no problems.

I deleted an album via the photos website. But it continues to show up on the app (iOS app). When opening the album it just spins trying to load photos. Can't delete it via the app either - when trying to delete it, the album disappears for a few seconds then comes back. Album description says there are 44 items but icon is just gray/blank. Can't edit the album or add photos - which makes sense since it doesn't exist.
A phantom album. Was going to sign out and sign back in but that would sign me out of all Google apps on my phone. Reinstall?
