Google photo app. I want to make sure of I will delete any photos fro. Device folder should not delete the copy from Google photo app until manually deleting the same from the app.

That's happening because of the "Sync" feature in the Google Photos app.
Sync means that your photo library stays consistent across all devices that are signed in to your account with Google Photos.
 For example, deleting a photo from one device will delete it from everywhere, and editing a photo on the web will edit the photo on the original device.
 
If you wish Google Photos should not sync with the WhatsApp folder, you can remove that from the Back up & sync option.
Alternatively, if you wish to delete photos on the device, please use the option "Delete from device" which becomes visible when the photo is launched in full screen & the three dots are tapped.

What you experienced and सीके _ described only happens when you delete a photo in the Google Photos app. When you delete from the Gallery or from another File Manager the photo will stay in Google Photos.

Now, as I stated my problem is whenever,I am deleting any pics from device Gallery or file manager folder , the respective copy of that particular pic is getting deleted from the google photos app automatically.

Now, there are individual options available for backup & sync under each folder which are present in Google Photo (GP) apps and I have tried to enable and disable the options for different folders and try to perform the delete in android device folder just to cross verify but in both the situations pics are getting deleted from the GP apps.

My concern is why the automatic deletion is happening in the GP app.

How to make sure , if I am deleting anything in the device should not delete anything either in GP app or photos.google.com

When you delete a photo from the device it should show shows the photo that is uploaded to https://photos.google.com/. When the photo disappears from the Google Photos app, it seems to confirm that the photo was not uploaded to https://photos.google.com/.

I try to be "organized" with around 400 albums now, and honestly: that works rather well when you give these albums names allowing them to be found easily. When you search with one or a few words the system suggests album titles with these words. 
 
My biggest problem is however that it is really difficult to get (and keep) the photos in an album in the order I want. See this link. Sorting by file name in an album also has been asked by thousands, but they obstinately refuse to implement this very basic feature.

As a volunteer at Google Photos, I am not able to recover your deleted photos. I can only offer suggestions: 
 
If you are having trouble finding photos or videos, and for instances when you deleted photos and videos but cannot find them in Trash, please see this "Missing photos troubleshooter." 
 
How did items get sent to Trash? 
When you use the Google Photos app to delete photos or videos, you will see a confirmation message, "Remove from Google account, Google Drive, synced devices, and places it's shared?" If you click "Move to Trash," your photo or video will be removed from the Google Photos website, removed from Google Drive, and removed from all synced devices such as Android smart phones, iPads, iPhones, and computers. 
 
If your phone is getting full and you want to delete items to make room for new items, instead of moving the items to Trash, it's much safer to use the Free Up Space feature in the Google Photos app. Free Up Space will remove only the items that have been successfully backed up to Google Photos in the cloud. All items that were NOT successfully backed up will remain on your device. However, you should be aware that if you have only one version of your photo or video in the cloud and nowhere else, you no longer have a back up. If you accidentally permanently delete your one and only version(s) from the cloud, or delete your Google account, or get locked out of your account, there will be no way to get your photos back.

That's the intended feature of the Sync function.
Sync means that your photo library stays consistent across all devices that are signed in to your account with Google Photos.
 For example, deleting a photo from one device will delete it from everywhere, and editing a photo on the web will edit the photo on the original device.
 
Once backup & sync is on, you can't delete something on the cloud without losing the correspnding one on your device.
There are only two ways to avoid that
  • Stop the backup & sync for ever
  • Or, move the photos on the phone to some folder which is not syncing with Google photos. You can create that either on an SD card or USB or transfer the pictures to desktop & prevent the automatic deletion.

I have used Google Photos across multiple ios devices for some time with no issues until the last couple of weeks.  I have the app on imac, ipad and iphone and also share with my wife who uses another ipad and iphone.

All has been working fine with us both seeing our photos across our devices but in the last couple of weeks we are seeing two copies of each photo on the ipad app, it only happens on the ipad app  (imac, iphone and google photos webpage all show single photo correctly) 

One copy of the photo is the original and the second copy looks identical including date, time, location etc but the filename has changed and so has the resolution.......  i have checked all our devices and we definitely only have one copy of the photo taken but for some reason no matter where the photo originates from it will always be duplicated on the ipad app (all other devices app's display correctly).  For info the problem is the same on both of our ipad's and across our shared libraries.

Hopefully to help identify the issue further it should be noted that all of the duplicate photos have a small grey icon which is similar to the photo upload icon / buffering but it is static and not moving in a circular motion.  Screenshot below shows the original and second copy of pictures on ipad app ;

The problem has been happening for a few weeks and has affected old and newly uploaded pictures from all sources.

I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling, signing out and in again on a number of occasion, all to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated as the issue is maki g the app on the ipad almost unusable.

 Google are aware, the issue is that Google Photos is also showing the Photo Stream copy of the photos.

It can be fixed by turning off Photo Stream - is it really needed?

It is clearly an IPad issue.   If i take a photo with my IPhone I only get one photo shown on my IPhone but 2–one with and one without the circle sign on it—on the IPad

Backup and sync is definitely enabled on the ipad and any pics I take on the ipad are showing correctly on the google photos website but show in duplicate on the app.

One photo resolution is 2448 x 3264 279kb, showing as being taken on iphone 6 and 8mp with file name img_0566_.jpg : this photo doesn't have the grey icon

Other identical photo is 1536 x 2048 526kb, showing as being taken on iphone 6 and 3.1mp with no file name not showing at all : this photo has the grey icon.

I have searched through google and there are a growing number of people reporting the same issue and if anything it seems to be spreading across the ios apps.  Originally my phone wasn't affected but i'm starting to see the same issue but only on the app.  In all cases if I open google photos through the webpage the photos are displayed correctly from all devices.   For reference the photo that I have shown the resolution details above appears to be the first picture (2448 x 3264) when looking through the google photos webpage, there is no sign of the other copy (1536 x 2048).

Hope this helps !!  It really is a frustrating problem and is ruining what has been a great app until recently

P.s.  I have made no changes to either phone or ipad in recent weeks apart from uninstalling and reinstalling google photos to see if that cured the issue - it didn't.....

This is as you say incredibly frustrating and trying to call google support is worthless since you cannot get a live person.  Going to get to people I know at google and let them know this will, if not corrected, destroy the app.   I looked and it  seems like it started in Dec 2018. All pictures before that are fine.

Exact same thing here. iPhone seems to be ok. But when the sync happens with he iPad app all images we duplicated with a change in resulting for the duplicated version which is why Google photos does not erase the duplicate as they are no longer the same. However I think the issue is definitely with the Goole Photos app. I hope Google fixes this soon ... Or I hope someone can find a solution. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling the app. But the problem persists.

@Andy, the 2048 copy is curious in that there used to be an issue when adding photos to albums especially when uploading at HQ.  It was almost like the photo you added to the album was still being converted to HQ and it was an interim stage.
 
Is iCloud with optimised storage involved at all with your setup, or are the photos edited at any stage.
 
I have an iPad and am happy to try replicating so if I can mirror your setup maybe I can also be affected and demonstrate to Google what the issue is. I have 12.3.1 with Photos 4.21.258405198

This happens independent of any photo editing. Take a picture with my iPhone and there is one picture in Google Photos on the iPhone and 2 pictures —-one with and one without the circle with the arrows ——in Google Photos on the IPad. And again the web site shows just one photo

Im using IOS 12.3.1 with Google Photos 4.21.258405198.

The photos can either be edited within Google Photos or unedited - both with the same result ie second copy showing in the app.

I have the standard "free" iCloud (5gb) which filled up years ago so my ipad doesn't back up to it any more.  I only back up set at the unlimited storage resolution through Google Photos ie the pictures are not counting towards my storage limit on google.

Something has definitely changed as I've had no issues in the past and without any changes to my setup this issue has started to happen within the app in the last few weeks.  As mentioned before, the Google photos webpage appears unaffected and all of my pictures from all sources behave "normally", its just in the app that the duplicates appear.

Thanks for looking into this, hopefully you can replicate and help find a solution to a problem that seems to be growing in affected users.

UPDATE : Additionally, have gone back through my pictures in the app and everything up to and including Jan 26th 2019 is fine however images taken with my iphone from Jan 27th 2019 onwards all now have the second copy with icon being displayed on the ipad app.  The photos are all showing correctly on the iphone app and the google photos webpage.  I also know that these photos were not affected on the ipad app when they first uploaded so whatever the problem is has "rippled backwards" to that exact date and no further for some reason !!

The option "Free up space" needs to be used in regular intervals.
Trying to do so in bulk can create problems.
The app may not be finding enough free space on the device to proceed further.
However, you can use another option till then.
  • First, ensure that everything is backed up.
  • Then, open the app in the gallery view.
  • Long press the first picture till the tick emerges on that.
  • Next, stroke down to select multiple pictures.
  • Once a sizable number of pics are selected then please tap the three dots at the top right corner.
  • There you will find the option "Delete from device". Tap on that.
  • You may have to repeat this till sufficient space is created in the internal memory of the phone.
Then, you can try the free up space option for the remaining pics.

Question: Update to Version 5.37 with android 11 and all my pictures are getting backed up again.

I have all my phone pictures backed up in google photos. Since I've updated the app to Version 5.37 …

I have all my phone pictures backed up in google photos. Since I've updated the app to Version 5.37 I keep getting 4000 waiting for upload, which is not correct. Are all my pictures getting backed up again? Is that a bug with android 11? My lastest pictures are not getting backed up of course. How can I fix this?

Do you have multiple accounts on your phone?
Did you switch to another account inadvertently?
The text appearing in the screenshot "Manage your Google Account" becomes visible only when we tap on the drop-down arrow to switch the account.
If so, the app will try to upload everything to that other account.
 
Try switching to the right account & then the backup will stop.

Thanks for the answer, but I'm in the right account. If I press the backing up button (to see what pictures are being backed up) , I can see all the pictures with the "backing up" arrow on the bottom right corner that I already have backed up. (If I go to my google photos in my pc for example, I can see all the pictures there too)
Is there a way to go back to another version of the app?

I suggest you deselect the backup & sync temporarily.
Then please go through the following steps.
You may feel that as an overreaction. However, those are the usual troubleshooting steps.
 
I suggest you clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.
You can do that through these steps.
  • On your Android phone, open the Settings.
  • Tap Apps and notifications.
  • Tap Show all apps.
  • Tap Google Photos.
  • Tap Storage and cache.
  • Tap Clear storage.
  • Next, uninstall the Google Photos app. 
  • Power off the phone & then restart.
  • Install the latest version of the Google Photos app once again through the Play Store.
Log into your profile & see whether that helps to overcome the current problem.

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.
 
2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.
 
3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.
 
4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.
 
5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.
 
6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.
 
1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:
 
2). If you use a work/student account (G Suite), you should contact your Account Admin as they can restore files up to 25 days after deletion.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Album Archive with your Hangouts account.
  2. Tap Photos from Hangouts.
  3. Select the album with the photos you want to delete.
  4. Tap the photo to delete.
  5. At the top, tap More   Delete photo.
  6. To delete an album, open the album and tap More   Delete album.
  7. Even if you delete a photo, the person you shared it with may have saved a copy.

Can you please share a screenshot of the backup status?
Tap one profile & then the next screen shows the actual status of the backup.
Additionally, do you have more than one account on your phone? That need not be your but can be of someone else. Did you switch the profile in the Google photos app inadvertently? then, the photos will upload everything to that account.
