Answer:

Video file sizes varies from 5MB to 80MB. Downloading through Google Photos website is working. What's not working is downloading them through Google Photos API using their base URL with =dv parameter.

I believe the error only occurs if this video is something that was shared into your album by another user.

Question: How to change photos backup settings from daily to weekly/monthly?

I have to change photos backup and sync settings from daily basis to weekly/monthly

Hi, Parth Gupta 7156

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, regretfully, the app doesn't provide an option to switch on the backup & sync option as a scheduled event.

Nevertheless, you can suggest that feature through the "Help & Feedback" option.
Once a sufficient number of users request the same improvement, we may see that being implemented later on.

Answer:

There is no daily basis: the app simply syncs (uploads) when it has good wifi.
Besides weekly or monthly would causes extreme amounts to get uploaded.
So you only can switch-off the backup and then switch-on whenever it suites you.
Or you don't backup at all, but copy your content to your computerdisc via usb.
Sending feedback about feature requests nobody asks for, makes no sense.

You can change that through a pinch-in action.
Press your thumb & index finger on the photos collection & bring them nearer while still in pressed condition. That will turn the display in month view.

To turn that back to a day view, do exactly the opposite of that.

Question: How send photo back to phone gallary and remove from Google photos

Hi, Taponidhi Pandey

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Either, you can download photos one by one. Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com
Select the Google Photos app for data download.
Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phones gallery.

That will bring everything to your phone.

Answer:

The method mentioned by सीके _ (use Takeout) will work, but is not the only method. I tried to compile the different options (see further), but also would like to mention the option to use "Recover storage" on https://photos.google.com/settings. When used before June 1, 2021 that will convert all photos/videos to "High Quality" and bring the storage used by Google Photos to zero. If you want to keep (some) originals you will have to save them elsewhere, which is a good idea anyway: having them only in one place is never safe.

These are methods I collected to download from Google Photos to a device:
Also note that it is not really safe to delete from device without making a backup. See this article.

When I click on the share symbol, the pop-up screen looks like so.

A tap on the More button displays the complete contact list saved on my phone.

Are you not able to see a similar thing?
Can you please add a screenshot of how does the pop-up look on click to the share symbol?

Nevertheless, one prerequisite is we should have the Gmail ID of each of the contacts saved in the list.

By permanently deleted do you mean you emptied the "Bin" in the phone app or "Trash" on the desktop?
Then regret, that's an irreversible action.

There is no way to recover the pictures through google photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps
and run a scan for anything to recover.

I have all my photos saved under my university email account and my university gets rid of student email accounts after a while. How do I move all of the photos to my personal gmail account? I know there's the sharing thing but I'm having two issues with that right now 1) It's not working, when I get to the step of putting in the account I want to share with it's saying "No results" and not letting me click anything else. 2) Does "sharing' mean that both people can own to the photos, like when my university account gets deleted will I still have the ability to access the photos on my personal account even though the original account is deleted?

Answer:

Hi Lauren,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!

It sounds like you are having problems with Method C..  Use Method B instead make sure that you:
1. "Add to Library" (icon in the album) to the personal account.
2. Confirm that you see the images in the "Photos" section of the Google Photos app.
3. Do this far in advance to when you will lose your university account.
4. Don't delete the images and / videos from the university account until at least several days after the images (and especially videos) have successfully transferred.

Good luck,  Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Answer:

Hi Lauren,

(Share) Email the link from the university account to your personal account (or simply copy the link and switch browser links to your personal account).

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just really stressed and nervous because I don't know when my account will be deleted so I need to do all of this now.

Answer:

Hi Lauren,

>>> Wait so I was able to share all of the photos with the partner thing. I have thousands of photos and they're not in albums does that mean I have to save each individual photo?

On your personal account, inside where you see the shared photos look for the "Add to library" icon (a could with a down arrow).  This should copy all of the images to the personal account in one go - confirm this by seeing that they exist in https://photos.google.com/u/0/

If you are in the right place you should not need to select each photo.

Question: How to remove NOKIA name tag from camera photos.

To remove NOKIA name tag from camera photos.

Hi Richard

If you are taking about the file name of a camera jpg, for example, you could edit the file name in the Files by Google app on your Android device.

For example, if I take a photo with my camera, the file name starts with PXL (i.e. an image taken with a Pixel phone. I'm assuming your file name has Nokia, and that is what you are referring to.)

So
1. Open Files by Google app
2. Select Images > Camera
3. If not select, choose list view to show file name
4. Select image to adjust
5. Select : line menu > Rename
6. Rename file without Nokia

You may need to download the image if it was saved to Google Photos and then removed from the device.

I do not see a way to rename file name from Google Photos.

Hi

Google Photos will not simply automatically delete your photos in your main photo stream.

However photos that are deleted and moved to the trash will age between 30 to 60 days depending on your device and backup settings. After that point images may be automatically deleted from the trash after aging.

If you have back up and sync turned on and delete an image from your phone it will also delete from your backup.

If you need to free up space on your phone while keeping your online backup:
1. Open Photos
2. Select Profile icon
3. Select Free up space

I created 12 collages for a calendar i am making and when i addthem in they dont fit. part of my pictures get cut off. is there a way to make it smaller so it fits?

Answer:

Collages created on Google Photos merely are square, while your calendar software may require landscape sizes in wide screen ratio 16:9 (you are not clear about that).
So if you are fixated on the idea that you need collages, you must use a much more versatile online editor like www.ribbet.com which also can have access to your Google Photos account for selecting the right pictures. But it maybe wise to collect your selection in an album on Google Photos first.

Hi Choo, to delete from Google Photos without deleting from the phone you need to delete the photo using a browser at https://photos.google.com/

Next go to your phone app you will have an assistant card asking for permission to "Remove it from this device"  If you dismiss this card by tapping the X in the corner, the photo will remain in your Camera Roll,

Answer:

Thanks Peter. The reason I asked is that I notice that any photo or screenshot taken with my iphone will appear in Google photos twice - ie  the photo and a duplicate photo. Any idea what could be up with that?

Answer:

What is your complete setup, do you have do you also have Backup and Sync working on a Computer or anything other than a straightforward iPhone with Backup to Google Photos.

Answer:

Just Iphone only with backup to icloud. Photos that my friends share with me via WhatApp, for example, do not get duplicated. Thanks for thinking about this!

Sorry Choo, I am mainly involved with Android and I haven't heard of anything like this with iOS, could yoy raise a new question giving a bit more detail and hopefully one of the iPhone experts will pick it up. If not I will keep a look out to make sure it doesn't get ignored.

I have assumed you don't have a Mac running Backup and Sync on your iCloud library or any other sync running on your devices.

I'm worried about the integrity of my Google photos backup. I have a Pixel phone and have had it for years and always auto backed up. I've noticed the past few weeks that photos are mixing up from different years when I'm browsing my photos. I.e. March 6, 2021 also shows random photos from other dates and years

I haven't tried anything because it seems like a database software issue on googles end? Are my photos secure and properly backed up? I'm a bit worried

Answer:

Sorry that you did not get a reply earlier. We are all users trying to help, but are helpless when things do not work as intended. Google extracts the "date taken" from the photo and stores it in a database. It happened earlier that dates got wrong in Google's database, but got corrected later on.  If there are not many you can also correct (in batches) yourself, but I can imagine that this is not feasible for large numbers.

"Are my photos secure and properly backed up? I'm a bit worried"
You are very right to be worried. Even when Google keeps them safe, they are at risk by own mistakes.
See Google Photos is NOT a "Backup" of Your Photos. It's strongly recommended to have a real backup.

Now- with that out of the way let's deal with JS K's post in  Google Photos.
Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.

1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

2). If you use a work/student account (G Suite), you should contact your Account Admin as they can restore files up to 25 days after deletion.
