Nitixa Nitixa,
If the pictures that were on your old phone are not visible in the Google Photos app on your new phone, that means those pictures were never actually uploaded or backed up to your account. Or you're not logged into the same Google account on the new phone.
It's important to keep in mind that the Google Photos app is capable of displaying pictures saved both on the phone as well as those saved to the cloud, so it's sometimes easy to mix up which have been backed up and which haven't. Pictures in folders on your device that are not selected for automatic backup are still visible in the Google Photos app, even though they aren't backed up to the cloud.
It's possible that the pictures you're missing (assuming that you're logged into the same account) were in folders on the old phone that weren't selected for automatic backup. Or maybe the backup process hadn't finished yet.
The only way to verify for certain that your pictures have been successfully uploaded from your phone to your account in the cloud is to visit the Google Photos website from a computer. If your pictures aren't visible on the website, then they haven't been uploaded.
If that's the case here, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures. Nobody here has access to your account or your files, and Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.

I am trying to lock or use a password to keep my important information album safe. Beyond just locking my phone. If someone hacks my cloud, it would make it harder for them to get into this album
Answer:
No Google does not offer a way to password protect albums, besides any photos in an album is also visible in your Photos timeline. I'd recommend just ensuring your Google account is secure by selecting a secure password and enabled 2 factor authentication, and that your phone is secure as well.

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:
Restore photos & videosIf you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the bottom, tap Library
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone’s gallery app
- In your Google Photos library
- In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
Important:
- If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
Empty your trashIf you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.Don't see the photo or video? If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

I have many albums on my Samsung Galaxy 21 but for whatever reason Google photos isn't finding all of them. They're not an option in the backup and sink. How can I get Google photos to find all of my albums?
Answer:
@Timothy
Depends what you mean with "albums" and on which way you are searching. What Google means with albums is visible on the Library page under the word Albums at the bottom.
If it are albums shared with you via Google Photos - these are shown under the tiny rectangle left-up.
Please be more clear.
Answer:
All of my albums in Samsung photo do not show up in all of the albums in the Google photos it's not finding all the albums they're not there to select back up in sync
Answer:
Probably you are not talking about albums, but about device-folders and these are shown under Photos on device (= Folders on device) on the Library-page. If some folder is not there, the folder may be empty or hidden for Google for some technical reason.
Please be more clear about which folder(s) you are talking.
PS: the so-called Camera-folder is in reality the DCIM-folder in the Android-tree which contains several subfolders of which the Camera-folder is the most important one. But also a folder for Screenshots etc.
Answer:
I have 30 albums in my Samsung gallery and they're all the same type of album there's nothing different one from the other and Google photos is only finding 15 albums
Answer:
Sorry, but you still don't understand the difference between folders and albums and Samsung calls everything an "album" and that is misleading you.
But in Google Gallery Go or Google Files you only can see folders with real files and these are relevant for Google Photos.

- Go to Gmail

- tap the paperclip-> Attach file
- Browse files in Photos and the photos count gives an accurate number.

Lori,
Good afternoon. You can change the date that's displayed for pictures and videos in Google Photos by opening the Info panel and selecting it. This can only be done from a desktop or laptop computer at this time.
Per to the official Google Photos Help page about editing your pictures:
Change date & time stampsYou can change the date and time stamps for photos and videos using a computer. When you change the date and time of your photo, the edited date and time will appear in Google Photos. But if you share it to other apps or download it, it may show the original date and time saved by your camera.
- On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
- Place your cursor over a photo or video. To select the items you want to update, click Select
.
- At the top right, click More
.
- Click Edit date & time. If you selected more than one item, you'll see two options.
- To specify a date and time for the first item and automatically adjust the dates and times for the other items as relative to that, click Shift dates & times.
- To set the same date and time for all the items you selected, click Set one date & time.
- Follow the instructions to finish.

I noticed from 2013 Google troubleshooting online acknowledge they had this problem and we're working on it, but 8 years is a long time to work on it. Is anyone else having this problem, and is there any solution? I have tried disabling Google photos on my phone and using a different photo app, but the different apps won't allow me to upload the photos to my computers at home. I can see the photos on my phone, but when I plug it into my laptop or desktop computer, it will not upload. When I restore Google photos, the photos will then upload, but there will be 3 to 5 copies of every single photo duplicated.

I am trying to reduce space in my Google account. Since the largest component of my 15gb storage capacity is Photos, I followed the process to download all my photos.
Answer:
That's not quite difficult in the mobile Google Photos app: then select some pictures, hit the Share-icon and choose the Drive-icon and select the folder you want to download.
Be aware that these downloads will count for your storage, but if your images at Google are compressed to High Quality, they will count moderately.
PS: in the old situation it was not that if did move (not copy) a picture from a month-folder to your own folder, that this picture was removed from your phone. But you can remove pictures from your phone if they are stored at Google already.
Answer:
Without knowing how you manage your website it's hard to answer this fully- are you able to browse directly to Google Drive from your website manager, or did the folder in Drive sync to your PC which you then uploaded to the website?
As Rinus explained, you can share images from the Google Photos app to the Google Drive app. This shouldn't be too much more time consuming than moving them from one Drive folder to another, the only difference being if your photos were removed from Google Photos when doing this before, now you'll need to manually remove them.

Answer:
How did you delete the photos from your device? When you delete for example in the Gallery, the Google Photos app will show the copy that was uploaded to Google Photos. In order to delete both you better delete in the Google Photos app: that should delete both the device copy and the cloud copy.
"I am lost about which item is actually uploaded"

I am trying to reduce space in my Google account. Since the largest component of my 15gb storage capacity is Photos, I followed the process to download all my photos.
My Google account showed about 8gb of Photos. I choose a ZIP archive and 10gb size, but when I downloaded everything there were 8 ZIP files with over 75gb in total of data.
- Why is this? How does 8gb of Google Photos turn into 75gb of zipped photos?
- Are their duplicates in these 8 zip files? I see many folders once unzipped with the same name (like "2019")?
- What are these 1kb json files?
Thank you.

Wow, COVID is well over a year and every vendor I work with has adjusted on WFH and some are actually brining people back. doesn't make sense to me, and the Google marketing machine keeps cranking to sell more devices and services knowing they cannot and will not provide customer support. Hi, Hersh Forman
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Your action of deleting photos to create space may be ineffective.
Google photos should occupy zero space for the activities up to 31st May 2021 if you have chosen to save the pics in High-Quality format.
That's showing 8 GB means you have uploaded a lot of content in the original quality format.
However, the balance was occupying zero space where you might have chosen the hig-quality format.
Nevertheless, to check what is occupying the space even now, you need to visit this link.https://one.google.com/storage/management
There, you will also find some tips on how to retrieve some of the storage space.
Follow those, but while doing so please ensure that you are not losing some critical data.

If you wish to convert these to quality, please visit https://photos.google.com/settings

That page will offer two options a) Purchase additional storage or b) Recover storage.
The second option will offer to convert all original quality content to high-quality
Tap/click on that & then all the pictures in original quality will be converted to high-quality.

Thank you for your fast reply.
I will check whether the photos are stored in Original Quality vs High Quality. If so, I will convert them to High Quality. Can you answer my other questions about the size of the current download and the json files?
Answer:
Hi, Hersh Forman
Thanks for your reply
You can estimate the size of download by counting the size of attachments in the email you receive after arranging for a takeout.
Answer:
Perhaps you are answering my questions in a roundabout way. I understand about the Original Quality vs High Quality issue and have checked it per your response. I still do not understand why if Google Photos is showing 8GB of data that the total download would be 75GB. Also, what are those .json files?
Thank you.
Answer:
@Hersh,
Regarding the question of duplicates, if you take a full download you get a combination of year albums and manually created albums.
- Year albums are unique copies and represent the Google Photos library
- Manually created albums contain zero storage shortcuts to the library copy, but are downloaded as a duplicate in the output file.
An example would be that if you had 100 photos in the library and they all were also in an album, then 200 photos would be downloaded in a full takeout. 100 in the year album and 100 in the manually created album.
To get a single copy of all your photos, go to Takeout, if you wait a minute until 'All photos albums included' pops up then click on it and deselect all.
See screenshots online.

Then scroll down and select all the year albums Photos from 2021 etc.
You will now get a single copy of each photo, one json file per photo, and one filename-edited.jpg for each edited photo.
Regards,
Peter

Google seems to have kicked the customer to the curb. They don't answer on any number you call now and no chat options. All the message says is that "due to COVID and safety of the employees they are working with a limited team - goodbye." Wow, COVID is well over a year and every vendor I work with has adjusted on WFH and some are actually brining people back. doesn't make sense to me, and the Google marketing machine keeps cranking to sell more devices and services knowing they cannot and will not provide customer support. Sad (or criminal).

I'm sorry, but do you have a question?
What Google product or service do you need help with? Some provide live support (usually those dealing with purchases) and some don’t.

Hi, Honest Deb C

Do you mean to say when you tap to open any photo through your file explorer, that launches the Google Photos app by default?
Or, are you expecting something else?

Hello,
out of ignorance of the consequences, I have activated in the settings of Google Drive that Google Photos should be displayed there. When I realized, what happened, I reseted the setting. But the folder is still there after 12h of waiting.
I read other posts and the help site that stated, that its safe to simply reset the setting and then delete the folder. I tried this with a Folder inside the Google Photos Folder. I deleted the Folder from the Google Photos folder and then emptied the bin. The fotos were also deleted from Google Photos.
In the android app it is also stated. (see screenshot)

It says "The folder 'Google Photos' is moved to the bin. This will also delete it in Google Photos.
What can I do to hide the folder in Google Drive?
Kind Regards
Moritz

I've already backed up over 15,000 photos on my Android device. However, it's backing up 12,601 photos again when it's already been done. What's happening? last I recall I have no duplicate photos and I have auto-synch on.
Answer:
Hello Moritz,
That warning is a mistake, removing the Google Photos folder from Drive cannot remove it from anywhere else because it doesn’t exist anywhere else. Also I have just deleted my Google Photos folder in the Drive app and it does not delete the Google Photos copy of the photo. This only applies to photos placed there by the system, it does not apply to any photos uploaded from a computer to the Google Photos folder. Did you upload any photos to it?
Answer:
Hello PeteranDi,
thank you for your answer!
Now the folder "Google Photos" is in the bin.
Is it okay to click "Delete forever"? (see Screenshot)

Regarding your question:
I created a folder within the "Google Photos" folder "test" and moved an image I just took and uploaded via the Google Photos app on android to from the folder "Google Photos"/2019/01 to "Google Photos"/test.
Then I deleted the folder test. The image was also deleted in Google Photos.
Kind Regards
Moritz
Answer:
Hello Morirz,
I will need to do some more validation testing for that scenario. I took a test photo and deleted the Google Photos/2019/01 folder and the photo remained in Google Photos. I just repeated with a new photo and created a folder in Google Photo/Test and moved the photo to it then deleted the test folder with the same result as you with it also being deleted from Google Photos.
The safest thing would be to restore the Google Photos folder then on a computer right click and Download it before deleting again and emptying the trash,
Peter
Answer:
Hello again Moritz,
It looks like you have found a scenario we were not aware of.
If you move a photo from a sub folder of My Drive/Google Photos to a new folder created by you, then deleting that new folder will also delete the Google Photos copy of that photo.
If you move a photo from a sub folder of My Drive/Google Photos to a new folder created by you, then deleting the Google Photos folder will not delete the Google Photos copy
If you move a photo from a sub folder of My Drive/Google Photos to an existing system generated folder for example from My Drive/Google Photos/2018/12 to My Drive/Google Photos/2019/01 then deleting any combination of folders will not delete the Google Photos copy.
So the rules would be
'never delete a user created folder individually from the Google Photos folder'
'never upload a photo from the computer to the Google Photos folder'
It is always safe to delete the Google Photos folder if those two rules are followed
Thank you,
Peter

The Community is made up of volunteers trying to help by sharing our experience, we have no magic links into Google and are not in possession of any more information than what is in the blog.
The best way to let Google know your thoughts is to provide feedback, see:-
In summary, to send feedback to the Google Photos team
- Go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Help & feedback and/or Send feedback
- You can tell them things like:
- What you like or dislike about the app
- Things that are confusing or don't work
- Things that would help you use Google Photos better
I would suggest the most effective way would be to start the feedback with
#Drive & Photos followed by your thoughts and hopefully some constructive suggestions if you foresee any problems.

Question: Folder file recover
Madhu Gubber,
Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:
The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:
If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.
Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.
Regards,
~ Greg

Hi, Wayne Johnson 6429
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Almost every camera app allows to zoom in by pinch action of fingers.
You can open the camera app & try that.
Similarly, you can zoom the photos in the Google Photos app with the same pinch action.

Hi, Neeraj Dhiman 80
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
I suggest you clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.
You can do that through these steps.
- On your Android phone, open the Settings.
- Tap Apps and notifications.
- Tap Show all apps.
- Tap Google Photos.
- Tap Storage and cache.
- Tap Clear storage.
- Next, uninstall the Google Photos app.
- Power off the phone & then restart.
- Install the latest version of the Google Photos app through the Play Store.
Log into your profile & see whether that helps to overcome the current problem.
