After moving my Photos and Videos to High quality I can not free up the space from my phone I have 45GB worth of items to be cleared out from my phone but whenever I click them nothing happens and when I rapidly click the button it shows 0b cleared and for a while it will show me nothing to clear up. So I  need your help clearing my space... The free up button is unresponsive for me... And my device is the S21 Ultra.

Answer:

@Sherwin
You are mixing up two independant things: your space at Google and your space on phone (hardware).
Switching to High Quality only helps for the future, but not for the past.
And when free-up space does not work, it simply means that there is nothing to clean-up on your phone or that it contents not has been stored ("backupped")  at Google at all. Or that your stuff is on sd merely.

So if one.google.com/storage still shows a lot of GB's for Photos merely, you can have that amount compressed to high quality by pressing the Recover storage button on photos.google.com/settings for the account used in your backupsettings. That may take a day or more if many movies are involved, but thereafter the counter for Photos should be zero - if not, see one.google.com/storage/management where you have hidden stuff like unsupported video which should be deleted.

Good luck

Question: The option to share photos via link creation disappeared. where is it?

I can't create a link to share photos as of yesterday.

Sorry answered the way I did cause you chose the Android category.

Its still there for me on desktop. Can you test in an incognito window to see if a third party extension is messing things up

Answer:

Same thing in incognito. I click on the share icon and a list of my contacts comes up and no option to create link. It works on my phone but I need it on desktop as I'm copying links to a spreadsheet.

Answer:

Hold Ctrl and press - (minus) on the keyboard to zoom out. That should fix it as Salim suggested.

Thanks.

Find out sender

Hi, John Vanya

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

If you have received the photo through the sharing route in the Google Photos app, then you can know the details through the sharing tab. Click on the rectangle at the top left corner to know that.
However, if the origin is something else, then it may not be possible to know something through the Google Photos app.

Did you scan the receipts using the photo scan feature in the app?
Then you will find them in the same chronological order.
However, if these receipts are in a different format, then you will have to use some file explorer app to locate those.

I by mistakenly shared my all personal photos with my partners account and he saved into his library.
I stopped sharing as soon as i understood my mistake, but he has already saved into his account.
He still has access of my photos even though i have stopped sharing, because he has saved in his library.
He is blackmailing me with my photos, I want my photos to get delete from his library.
Please Help !

Answer:

Hi, Riddhima Mistry

Sorry to note your friend is blackmailing you over the personal photos shared through the partner sharing route.

However, the moment a recipient chooses to download the shared pictures, the originator of that sharing loses control over that.
There is no way to recover the situation through Google Photos. You will have to use some forensic route to warn your friend from misusing your photos.

Answer:

Thank-You, for reply.

Shouldn't google should work on something on deleting the photos, that are recognized by my name, with my consent.
Because, google recognize face,  so there should be a option for me to delete my photos in XYZ@gmail.com with my permission.

Answer:

Hi, Riddhima Mistry

We use a free facility after agreeing to the terms & conditions.

Hence, there wouldn't be any official support from Google for the existence of such a peer support forum.

Nonetheless, Google will not access anyone's storage even the person wishes to grant permission.
Here, you are expecting to access someone else's storage that's next to impossible.

Hi, HG VIPER

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

When someone does not choose backup over mobile data, the Google Photos app waits for the WIFI to turn on.
Once on, the app starts clearing the backlog of backup.
However, if you do not wish the backup to happen, you can turn that off through the settings in the app.
Nevertheless, if you stall the backup this way, you will be losing lots of useful functionalities.

Question: Albums missing

All the albums of my mobile are not showing in the library of Google photos

Hi Smruti,

Do you mean the local folders you created on your Android device?

Google Photos doesn't preserve any folder structure you have on your Android device to group the photos. Instead Google Photos uses albums to organize the photos, see this help page for more information https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128849?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

If you want to back up your photos to Google Photos I recommend that you use only albums for organizing them.

Having recently had an issue with my Samsung S20 turn on and off for no apparent reason, I backed up all my photos and what not to Google photos. Now having signed in on a replacement device there is nothing there apart from the SD card files that were automatically backed up when I put it in my replacement device. I have lost thousands and thousands of pictures and videos  over the last 11 months....if someone could please help I would greatly appreciate.

Answer:

@Astorath
If nothing is on photos.google.com when you log-in with the account in the backup-settings of the Google Photos app on your former S20, nothing can be seen in the Google Photos app on your replacement device if you log-in with that account under the profile-circle right-up.
Mixing-up different accounts can cause a lot of confusion also.
Don't know about any Samsung-automatics with file-transfer to a (new) phone.
Sorry - just volonteers here.

Answer:

Thank you for the reply. It was the same account I don't understand how any confusion can be made. If this cannot be rectified I've lost around 3000 pictures of both my children around both of their birthdays, my wife's birthday, Christmas, my birthday, all because of poor software  ? Can anyone help ? At all ?

Answer:

@Astorath
We are not able to reconstruct what could have happened due to a technical problem in your S20 and if any poor software has been the cause.
But if you never have checked what you had at photos.google.com you can't even be sure that they ever have been at Google at all. The app always shows what you have on phone, but not what you have at Google unless you would have created albums for sharing.
Nevertheless: it all is ugly of course.
So you only can hope that shared family has saved a lot in their own libraries.
We can do no more.
Sorry again

Question: Sir meri photo puri delete ho gayi hai

Hi, Niteesh Kumar 6757

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Photos do not get deleted spontaneously without any user-generated action.
Nevertheless, when we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,
And, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,

If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.

However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps
and run a scan for anything to recover.

I have uploaded a bunch of older photos that I took from remote location back before cameras could geo-tag pictures.  It seems like the ability to set the location of pictures in Google Photos to latitude and longitude coordinates would be a no-brainer.  Apparently not.

Does anyone know if this functionality is on the product roadmap?  Where can one go to check on future features?

Thanks!

Answer:

Hi, Matt Jenson

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Although we can't add GPS coordinates, we can update the location information through the desktop version of Google Photos.
Here is a screenshot of the feature.

If a photo doesn't contain any location information, the program queries "Where was that taken?". Also, a pencil symbol appears near to that to facilitate editing.

If we know the place, we can start typing. The program makes multiple suggestions. We can pick the most appropriate one.

Also, please note, even when a photo contains coordinates, the app converts that to the nearest location but allows us to edit.

Deleted photos from google photos bin how to get back

Hi there,

Once you delete photos from Google Photos, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos but you may wish to review the following options:
  • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
  • there is a small chance that you can recover the photos using a recover deleted photos app.
  • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Any albums which were uploaded via the old Google Drive sync method cannot be deleted or renamed. Any idea why? I even deleted all the photos in an album but the album cannot be deleted even though it is empty.

Answer:

@HamsterHam
Is this an album where you get via "Auto Backup" in https://get.google.com/albumarchive ? If so:
  • Changing the title of these albums is not allowed. These are "system" albums.
  • I tried to delete a few empty ones and that worked. I suspect that it is a temporary glitch.
  • They will NOT be auto-deleted
  • I would just ignore them. Is there any reason why you would have to go there and see them ?

Answer:

No, that's not it. I am talking about albums which were created as part of the old 'Show photos from Google Drive' option. The albums do not show up in the albums section but are there when you search.

Answer:

I never have used that option on https://get.google.com/albumarchive, so I was not aware that dated albums were created on Photos - normally only their content was added to library.
And although that option does not exist anymore, I had the impression that old situation on Photos would stay - even if you delete these "folders" in the Archive directly (if possible).
But if you don't see anything disturbing on https://photos.google.com or https://photos.google.com/albums I won't bother at all.

Unless you suddenly have a strange change in your storage-use at Google: see details on https://www.google.com/settings/storage for your account.

PS: albumnames like 2012-07-26 were typical for short term shares on former Google+ Photos and the originals still will be in your library.

Answer:

@HamsterH
Thanks for clarifying. You can ignore my earlier reply (and I guess also the one by Rinus).

"I am talking about albums which were created as part of the old 'Show photos from Google Drive' option. The albums do not show up in the albums section but are there when you search."
  • The option to search in Photos with the name of a folder in Drive seems indeed still to exist, at least for folders that existed in Drive before the changes. I created a new folder in Drive and check whether it will still appear when searching for it (it does not yet).

  • I never tried to change the name or delete such album, but I guess that it was never possible and works as intended. All I could do was: select the photos and add them to a new album.

  • You can now use "Upload" from Drive in order to get photos from Drive in Photos and create an album.

Answer:

Yeah, that doesn't really help me. They used to be deleted or renamed when changing the folder in Google Drive.

We should be able to do that or at least get them deleted if they're empty.

I think they auto delete as one which is now empty has disappeared from a few days ago. Need someone to confirm that though.

Are you uploading the video in original quality or high quality?
If you choose high quality, some minor degradation is inevitable.

Question: Is there a way to remove certain images from the documents section?

Nothing I can do at the moment. I've tried selecting the images to see if there was a remove option.

Hi, Shouko Komi

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Are you trying to delete the images through the Google Photos app?
When you tap to open the image, are you not finding the bin icon at the bottom?
Can you please include a screenshot of that view?

Answer:

Hi,  Shouko Komi

Thanks for your reply

However, I miss to see any documents section in the search pane in Google Photos on my phone
I can see
  • People & pets.
  • Places.
  • Things.
  • Your activities with further sub menus.
  • Categories with further sub menus.
  • Creations with further sub menus.
    but no documents.
To know exactly what you are looking for, can you please add a screenshot?

Question: My all photo are delete i am resive my all photos

Hi, Zaidi Munazza

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

When we delete something from the phone, the sync action in the app removes it from the cloud also & vice versa,

Nevertheless, any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days.

Hi Trisha and Rinus,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

@Rinus, thanks for pitching in.

@Trisha, could you please confirm what exactly are you referring to when you say show videos, photos, comments

It would also be better if you can share a screenshot with me so that I can take it forward. Also, redact any personal information while sharing the screenshot.

Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Emma

I owned 6 album, and I'm really sure they aren't deleted, but when I used the takeout feature, I only saw 3 album in the list… How could I get all album in that takeout?

Answer:

If there are only 3 albums in the Takeout list then Google Photos is telling you that you only own 3 albums.

Please note that albums shared to you will not be included.

Albums are stored at https://photos.google.com/albums

Answer:

What do you see at https://photos.google.com/albums

Answer:

I'm sorry, but I have never heard of albums not being included in Takeout. All I can suggest is that you open each album and use the 3 dot option to Download all

I will save this and monitor for other reports with a view to submitting a bug report to Google

Answer:

Still thanks a lot for your answers! I also tried to report this question directly to Google, but I only could find this community for Google photos

Answer:

"I saw 13 albums in https://photos.google.com/albums as usual, 7 from other people shared with me, 6 for my owned"
Albums shared with you are not normally shown in https://photos.google.com/albums, but you can indeed in https://photos.google.com/sharing (via 3-dots) show them in the Albums tab.
One difference between albums you own and albums shared with you is that you have "Edit" options.
Your own albums should also be shown in https://get.google.com/albumarchive/107717140606255934879
