Trump news on Youtube Jul 12 2018

right here with reaction to my opening monologue former US Attorney for the

District of Columbia our friend Joe digenova

who by the way has done legal work for me in the past recently thank God

because he's very expensive because he's that good I'm only kidding Joe and this

brand-new book out by professor Dershowitz is absolutely amazing you

need to read it it really is educational scald the case against impeaching Donald

Trump Harvard Law School professor Allen Durst which by the way right after this

show tonight 10:00 Eastern professor Dershowitz will be hosting an online

book signing you can order that book submit a suggestion right on my web site

Hannity com it's on my web site Hannity calm I want you one of the things that

is so sad is how polarized we can't talk to each other we can't talk to each

other you know and Martha's Vineyard right when I go to court and I argue

against the prosecutor Rudy Giuliani you know he was the prosecutor when I was a

young defense attorney we fought each other like tigers and then we'd walk out

shake hands and have a drink you could talk to each other I understood his

position he understood my position he was doing his job I was doing my job

it's gone what look at the nomination last night a blank sighs whoever it is

we're going to oppose look I would have nominated somebody else my choice would

have been Merrick garland I think the Republicans stole that nomination but

I'm gonna have an open mind about a Kavanagh might intellectual brilliant

brilliant guy look he went to Yale Law School not bad

we were both first in our class he went to many taught at Harvard hey knock that

wasn't first in my class professor hey he's a brilliant guy and you know when I

I didn't I can't tell you the content of my conversation with the president the

president did ask me my advice and one of the things the president emphasized

was his academic background and the fact that he had such a strong academic

background and that he was teaching at Harvard at Yale at Georgetown all these

places and and and that means he has an open mind

look what I wish he had different views I'm gonna disagree with it he also

changed his mind he did and that's a great great attribute the ability to

he's gonna serve on the court 30 years none of us has any idea what the crucial

issues will be thirty years from now no I've been friends with a long long time

and we agree on foreign policy on the Middle East and Israel is Joe Lieberman

yeah me too and Joel even when he ran as an independent he said he said just stop

saying you like me let me bring Joe Joe Jenna me and Joe I know you're gonna

like this book seriously it is it's it is rare I know right now I know as a

Dershowitz is under fire for standing up for principles he's always held yes this

is not a good time well the reason for that is very simple

you can't be honest anymore you can't be intellectually honest and the reason is

and I hate to say this the leftist and the Democrats have established an

idiocracy and it's populated by fools knaves and intellectual pickpockets just

all you have to do is listen to Senator Ben Cardin who won Face the Nation

the other day said that the nominee for the Supreme Court was coming from an

extremist organization the Federalist Society members of which included John

Roberts Nino Scalia Clarence Thomas Sam Alito and Neil Gorsuch when a United

States Senator says something as stupid and is ignorant and as uninformed as

that that's why people are treating Alan Dershowitz the way they are at the Cape

it's an embarrassment the intellectual dishonesty of these people is staggering

they're frightened of other ideas let's let's talk about this book in in the

context of where we are with the Muller investigation because you have called

this for what it is from the beginning it's very dangerous when we criminalize

political differences which are your words right not mine right no I agree

and I think Muller is going to end up not having accomplished very much

you cannot indict a sitting president we know that Cavanaugh agrees with that as

well and you cannot impeach a president unless he's committed a crime collusion

is not a crime the president can't obstruct justice

by simply simply exercising his authority under Article two so in the

end there's just gonna be a report some low-hanging fruit some people will be

indicted their families will be ruined Paul mana for for 2005 its case 12 three

hours of the situation and he should not be in jail he should be out he being

convicted and I missed it I know and and you know and poor black people shouldn't

be in jail if they can't afford bail it's a systemic problem

and just because you stand up for Paul Manafort doesn't mean you can't also

stand up but for Brittany I think one of the greatest moments of the Trump

presidency is when he pardoned a woman who will the first-time offender know it

was the right thing to do it was terrific it was the right thing to do

and it he did it because his gut told him there was a ninja when she said you

I will not let the American people down I asked the guy whose pumps it was

touching and she entered the arms of her family let me go the it's interesting I

I know fake news is what they are joe digenova but they tried to equate a 2009

writing I believe it was Minnesota law review of my mind is correct about by

judge Kavanagh as it relates to going after and I was a sitting president too

that's why Trump picked him he did this before the Obama administration your

reaction is well look look all of these all of this nitpicking about individual

writings means absolutely nothing it's any port in a storm he is such a

qualified candidate he is so superb this is what they've fallen to it's not going

to work and I predict at least three Democrats are gonna vote for him all

right Thank You Georgie gentlemen this book right here you can go to Hannity

calm in 23 minutes professor Dershowitz is gonna sign copies this book you care

about justice and the president what the witch-hunt

you're gonna want to read this book it's important for anybody any political

persuasion congratulations good to see you sir she ate

right this now a Fox News Alert breaking just moments ago our own catherine

herridge reporting that the corrupt FBI lawyer lisa page now will in fact not

comply with the subpoena and will not be testifying before a closed-door session

of Congress tomorrow which she said up until about an hour ago she would be

attending here with reaction author of The New York Times bestseller trumps

America the truth about America's great comeback and he is also the executive

producer of the first American which is now available on Amazon Prime video

former Speaker of the House Fox News contributor of Newt Gingrich's with us

she is now citing if I may Mr Speaker the idea that in fact congressional

source said that they did expect her but in fact she's claiming that she didn't

get the materials from Congress that she thought she would have well I mean who

knows what the deal is here increasingly these guys sound like the old mafia

bosses who used to show up for the Kefauver hearings many many years ago in

the early days of television and they would sit there and they would plead the

fifth and for the country at large was a huge spectacle and it kind of gave you

the signals who's guilty you're discovering that at the very senior

levels of the FBI and I believe of the Justice Department under Obama you had a

level of corruption that makes it very dangerous for them to show up and to

actually testify and so I think their lawyers legitimately under our system

are saying to them to protect yourself you cannot go under oath and start

talking about this stuff well you're going to create a they're going to

reveal information that will put you in jail or you can end up committing

perjury and so I think you're seeing a real example with them it sounds to me

like if they didn't have a whole lot to hide they wouldn't be hiding and what

we're seeing is people who I think have a lot to hide well what's a minute

listen I would actually say and I said this about the FBI director James Comey

whoever allowed him to write that book who was as an attorney and go on that

book tour I think did not sir him particularly well and I reminded him

at the time he had the right to remain silent

Lisa Paige was the top attorney for Andrew McCabe the Deputy Director of the

FBI and the boyfriend of Peter struck was at the heart of all of this she's

involved in the text messages we will stop him insurance policy calling Trump

every name in the book etc I honestly feel when you think of the ramifications

and how profound it is that they wanted to literally alter at a presidential

election in a way I don't think I would allow her to testify I think you're

faced with what is increasingly obvious as a bureaucratic coup d'etat where they

literally were trying to prop up Secretary Clinton

no matter how guilty she was and they're trying to find some device to block

Donald Trump no matter how innocent he was and I think this is I mean if you

want to see evidence that there is a deep state all you have to do is follow

this couple all of their various tweets and text messages I'm numb in text

messages and you begin to realize there was something profoundly wrong going on

yeah well obviously there really is because also Peter struck was the one

writing the exoneration he's the one that replaced gross negligence with

extreme carelessness he's the one that interviewed Michael Flynn he didn't

think Michael Flynn was lying he interviewed Hillary Clinton three days

later she was exonerated but he had been building the exoneration case since May

this did this happened in July on top of that he was at the heart of the the

start of what is the the phony Russia case this guy was up to his eyeballs in

every single solitary thing leading up to this election with the desire to rush

the Russia investigation so that they could get Trump this is about impacting

an election well I think for everyday common-sense non-lawyers and I'm not a

lawyer all you have to do is ask yourself the following picture Paul

Manafort who has not been convicted yet of anything

is apparently spending 23 hours a day in solitary confinement meanwhile every

single person in the Clinton team no matter what they have done has basically

been ignored exonerated allowed to go free now if you want to see how sick the

system is look at the way they're treating Paul man afford and look at the

way they treated Hillary's aides including the guy who took a hammer to

break up the smart phones and took bleach spit to destroy the memory of the

computers and say to yourself how come all these people had nothing done to

them and without even being convicted Paul Manafort is in solitary confinement

for 23 hours a day for a cold we have a very sick system a 2005 tax case and

remember what the judge said judge Ellis the third that they're putting the

screws to man afford for the purpose that he will sing or compose and that

the idea is to use him to either prosecute or impeach Donald Trump the

judge said that in the case let me move on you see the less reaction

fill-in-the-blank they had it all prepared against against whoever the

president chose your reaction to that and of course the president's election

this is one of the most important decisions any president will make look

I'm gonna go out on a limb tonight I believe that Judge Cavanaugh was so

impressive last night that his introduction by the president his own

speech the very appearance of his two daughters and his wife and his mother

and his father I believe that this is such a remarkable and easily defendable

person I'm gonna I'm just gonna go outside and say I believe at least three

Democrats are going to ignore the suggestion of the Democratic whip dick

Durbin that they ought to commit suicide and vote no and they're going to vote

yes and I think you're going to see a real split between the radical extremist

wing of the Democratic Party and people who believe

that the system really should work they really do want to find a way to work in

the system the very reliable Chuck Schumer votes of Claire McCaskill and

Nelson Heitkamp and tester and the rest of them it's gonna be interesting to

watch the election year conversion which isn't real mr. speaker great to see you

can grab some the book we appreciate you being with us always good to be with you

President Trump Makes 2 6 Million - Duration: 15:59.

President Trump Makes 2.6 Million

President Trump is on a roll this week and in that mode, he's about to make 2.6 million

grandparents very, very happy.

All with the stroke of a pen.

He's on a roll this week with pardoning the Hammonds, putting NATO fiscally in their

place and nominating Bret Kavanaugh to fill the void about to be left by Justice Kennedy

at the Supreme Court.

All promises kept and all fantastic news for Americans.

Perhaps Americans will never tire of winning after all.

On Monday, July 9, President Trump signed into law The Supporting Grandparents Raising

Grandchildren Act, first introduced by Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA)

in May of 2017.

The Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act has received support from 40 older adult

and child advocacy groups including AARP, American Academy of Pediatrics and Generations

United, which aims to improve the lives of kids and older adults.

The law signed by President Trump will provide resources to grandparents who are raising

their grandchildren.

The Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act cleared the Senate unanimously in June.

It creates a federal task force that will set up a one-stop shop of resources for millions

of grandparents in the U.S. who are raising grandchildren.

This has to do with the fight against opioid abuse and the resulting effect it has had

on grandparents who wind up raising their displaced grandchildren.

They are forced into providing caregiving and a family environment for these children

while their children are treated for their addiction.

Sometimes this even includes great grandparents these days.

"With so many parents struggling with addiction, grandparents are increasingly coming to the

rescue and assuming this role," said Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who co-authored the

bill.

"It is essential that we do all that we can to help these families."

It also addresses the fact that many of these parents d*e and the grandparents become defacto

parents to their poor grandchildren.

This law and the resources it provides was desperately needed by affected grandparents.

The resources the federal government will make available will include information about

legal custody, social services and mental health counseling, according to AARP, which

supported the bill.

"Approximately 2.6 million children are currently being raised in grandfamilies, and

experts say this number is rising as the opioid epidemic continues to devastate families and

communities across the country.

The legislation follows a March Aging Committee hearing where the members heard from grandparents

who are raising grandchildren when parents are struggling with addiction or are no longer

able to care for their children.

During the hearing, experts and grandparents testified on the need for grandparents to

have easy access to information about resources available to assist them.

""As the opioid epidemic expands, grandparents increasingly are being called on to become

the primary caregivers of their grandchildren.

Although this caretaker role can be beneficial for both the grandparents and the grandchildren,

it also presents several challenges," Sen. Collins said.

"Our legislation would spur a federal effort to identify, promote, coordinate and disseminate

information, resources and best practices that assist grandparents who are raising grandchildren."

""The opioid crisis is not only straining families, communities, law enforcement and

health care systems, but it is also presents new challenges for older Americans," Sen.

Casey said.

"As older Americans respond by stepping in to care for their grandchildren, this legislation

is designed to say that you are not alone and that we have your back, with a focused

federal effort to providing the information and supports grandparents need.""

The law will establish a Federal Advisory Council to support grandparents and other

relatives raising children.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be the lead agency coordinating the work

of the council.

Its charge is to identify, promote, coordinate and disseminate information about resources

and best practices to help relative caregivers meet the health, educational, nutritional

and other needs of the children in their care, as well as maintain their own physical and

mental health and emotional well-being.

The council will also develop a process so the public can provide comments and recommendations

to them.

Federal employees representing various agencies and departments whose work impacts grandfamilies

will comprise the other members of the council.

This includes agencies like the Administration for Community Living, Administration for Children

and Families, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Mental Health and Substance

Use.

To document the council's progress, they will issue a report to Congress in the first

six months and again in two years on best practices, resources and other information

for grandfamilies — as well as gaps in services to meet the families' needs.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is one of the sponsors of the bipartisan bill.

I usually don't agree with him on anything, but this time is different.

Brown said his office has heard from a number of affected grandparents in Ohio and from

other places.

He points to the opioid epidemic as one of the contributing factors to the trend.

"Experts report these numbers are growing as the epidemic gets worse," he said.

"Any parent of a young toddler can tell you caring for young children can be physically

demanding," he said.

"For so many grandparents then, taking on that responsibility means the end of retirement

for those who can go back to work or depletion of savings," Brown said.

It's devastating many families out there.

Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), another co-author of the bill, said he was pleased the legislation

was signed into law, saying that grandparents face "unique challenges such as delaying

retirement, bridging the generational divide and working through the court system to secure

custody."

This isn't about parties or politics… it's about a crisis that is ravaging this

country over opioid abuse.

While Congress continues to fight and tussle on most issues, legislators have come together

a remarkable number of times this year in support of grandparents and other relatives

raising children.

President Trump deserves the credit for this.

He has not forgotten about these grandparents, their children or grandchildren.

That being said, why didn't Obama focus on families affected by the opioid crisis?

Via Medium:

"Under President Obama, a small army of executive branch "slow-walkers" served

as pallbearers, knowingly or not, to the grim march of overdose deaths from commonly prescribed

opioids that was already underway in years before he took office.

As the body count climbed, the Brownlee-led US Attorney settlement with Purdue, as well

as West Virginia's 2004 settlement against the same company, ought to have prompted scores

of decisions to reign in opioid prescribing.

Instead, the opposite happened: prescribing numbers continued to grow throughout Obama's

first term, reaching a peak in 2012.

Despite subsequent reductions, they remain the highest in the world.

During Obama's time in office, licit opioid prescribing increased not only in number but

also in potency.

Most notable was expanded use of the powerful synthetic known as fentanyl, a drug approved

only for opioid-tolerant c****r patients suffering from pain beyond the reach of traditional

opioids, but one that drug makers marketed in a manner of ways, including in advertisements

that pictured construction workers and others employed in similar, physically demanding

jobs.

Although a reduction in opioid supply was desperately needed, and close scrutiny of

opioid manufacturers more than warranted, the Obama administration declined to do either.

What most exacerbated the opioid crisis was the dramatic rise in overdose deaths from

heroin and heroin adulterated with illicit synthetics (fentanyl and carfentanil).

While Obama was president, illicit heroin underwent an industrial transformation: market

expansion, innovation, and in many places, a reconfiguration of production and distribution.

Yet the path of initiation to heroin via prescription pills that fueled its resurgence went substantially

unchallenged by the president.

In fact, it was strengthened and fortified.

Though Obama did not start the opioid crisis, it is a blunt and brutal fact that, under

his administration, drug overdose became the leading cause of d***h for Americans under

the age of 50, and the opioid crisis became the worst drug epidemic in American history.

It is an irrevocable part of his legacy as president."

NATO allies agree to increase defense spending: Trump - Duration: 0:37.

Over in Brussels, President Donald Trump said NATO allies agreed to increase defense spending

by 2 percent of their GDP.

Speaking at a NATO summit press conference, the American leader said that because the

U.S. has been paying (quote) "probably 90 percent of the cost of NATO", he would have

been unhappy if the allies did not agree to pay more.

When asked whether he was threatening to pull out of NATO, Trump replied he could... but

it's not necessary since allies agreed on more spending.

Earlier the U.S. commander in chief tweeted that "all NATO nations must meet their 2 percent

commitment and that must ultimately go to 4 percent."

Trump urges NATO members to double military spending to 4% of GDP - Duration: 2:01.

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged NATO allies to double their military spending to

four percent of their GDP.

He made comments on Wednesday while attending a NATO summit in Brussels.

For more on this and other news around the world we turn to our Ro Aram..

Aram… run us through how the summit went…

Well Mark…

NATO members seemed a quite bewildered by Trump's comments…

The issue of defense spending and improved burden-sharing are issues Trump has repeatedly

harped on.

But NATO says Trump's proposed target of four percent of GDP on military spending is not

even being met by the United States.

Trump had earlier said Washington spends 4.2 percent, but according to numbers released

by NATO, it spent an estimated three and a half percent on defense this year, which is

a fraction lower than last year's figure.

He also singled out Germany for not pulling its weight, saying Berlin only spends "a little

over one percent.

NATO figures show Germany spends just under one and a quarter percent.

When asked about Trump's proposal, this is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

had to say…

"…..Well I will focus on what we have agreed and we have agreed to be committed to the

pledge increasing defence spending to 2 percent.

And let's start with that.

So we have a way to go, but the good news is that we really started to deliver……"

Despite Trump's complaints, he did sign the joint communique, in which NATO members agreed

to focus on more defense-spending and burden-sharing.

They also pledged to bolster the alliance's deterrence and defense capabilities to counter

Russian threats.

The joint communique comes just days before Trump meets Russian President Vladimir Putin

in Helsinki.

President Trump Holds a Press Conference NATO Summit 7/12/18 - Duration: 24:52.

day period in Brussels and we really accomplished a lot with respect to NATO

for years presidents have been coming to these meetings and talked about the

expense the tremendous expense for the United States and tremendous progress

has been made everyone's agreed to substantially up their commitment

they're going to up it at levels that they've never thought of before prior to

last year way attended my first meeting it was going down the amount of money

being spent by countries was going down and down verse abstention and now it's

going up very substantially and commitments were made only five of 29

countries will making their commitment and that's now changed the commitment

was a two percent ultimately that'll be going up quite a bit higher than that so

we are we made a tremendous amount of progress today it's been about at a

minimum they estimate and they're going to be giving you exact numbers but since

last year they've raised an additional thirty three billion dollars that's been

put up by the various countries not including the United States and the

United States commitment to NATO is very strong remains very strong but primarily

because everyone the spirit they have the amount of money they're willing to

spend the additional money that they will be putting up has been really

really amazing to see it to see the level of spirit in that room is

incredible and I hope that we're going to be able to get along with Russia I

think that we probably will be able to the people in the room think so but they

nevertheless they really stepped up their commitment and stepped it up like

they never have before so we took in an additional 33 the number could actually

be higher than 40 when they give you the final number the secretary-general

Sultan Berg will be giving those numbers sometime today probably

his concluding press statement but we are we are doing numbers like they've

never done before or ever seen before and you'll be seeing that then I guess

you'll be hearing that a little bit later okay we have our Secretary of

State as you know and we have John is here so if you have any questions for

the three of us Mike Pompeo just got back from my third trip as you know to

North Korea he's become a true expert on the trips to North Korea the best way to

get there the best way to get out and he gets along very well and he's doing a

great job over there yes ma'am yes I told people that are be very unhappy if

they didn't up their commitments very substantially because the United States

has been paying a tremendous amount probably 90% of the cost of NATO and now

people are going to start and countries are going to start upping their

commitment so I let them know yet they actually I was surprised I said you

didn't pick it up it took till today but yesterday I let them know that I was

extremely unhappy with what was happening and they have substantially up

their commitment yeah and now we're very happy and have a very very powerful very

very strong NATO much stronger than it was two days ago

yes ma'am yes hi how are you I know you're very famous on television

well they were probably worried because the United States was not being treated

fairly but now we are because the commitment has been up so much so now

they are and I was very firm yesterday you have to understand I know a lot of

the people in the room I was here last year I let them know last year in a less

firm manner but pretty firm and they raised an additional thirty three

billion dollars I think going to 40 billion but it's thirty three billion

dollars as of today and then today and yesterday I was probably a little bit

more firm but I believe in NATO I think that is very important probably the

greatest ever done but the United States was paying for anywhere from 70 to 90

percent of it depending on the way you calculate that's not fair to the United

States in addition to that as you know we're in negotiations with the EU and

we're going to be meeting with them next week we've been treated very unfairly on

trade our farmers have been shut out of the European Union now you could say

they're different but basically to a large extent they're the same countries

so I think we're going to be ultimately treated fairly on trade we'll see what

happens but I can tell you that NATO now is really a fine-tuned machine people

are paying money that they never paid before they're happy to do it and the

United States is being treated much more fairly yes sir news hour did you win any

concessions in your meeting and discussions with the German Chancellor

when it comes to German defense spending and also this issue of purchasing energy

from Russia and secondly what would you say to your critics that say by creating

this scene here at NATO you're only enabling President Putin in Russia to

further disturb things in Ukraine and Georgia well if you consider putting up

tremendously you know the additional funds at a level

that nobody's ever seen before I don't think that's helping Russia I think that

NATO is much stronger now than it was two days ago I think that NATO

is not doing what they was supposed to be doing a lot of the countries and we

were doing much more than we should have been doing frankly we were carrying too

much of a burden that's why we call it burden sharing I was using the term a

lot today burden sharing we had a fantastic meeting at the end 29

countries and they are putting up a lot Germany is increased very substantially

their time period and Germany's coming along and we still have to figure out

what's going on with the pipeline because the pipeline is coming in from

Russia so we're gonna have to figure that out I brought it up nobody brought

it up but me and we all are talking about it now and actually I think the

world is talking about it now maybe more than anything else but we're gonna

figure that out but and frankly maybe everybody's gonna have a good

relationship with Russia so there'll be a lot less problem with the pipeline but

to me that was a very major point of contention we discussed it at length

today the Germany has agreed to do a lot better than they were doing and we're

very happy with that we had a very good relationship with Angela Merkel yes hi

Thank You Margaret ala from yes after all these years I know Margaret okay

thank you maybe I'm being dense here but could you just clarify are are you still

threatening to potentially pull the United States out of NATO for any reason

and do you believe you can do that without Congress's explicit support and

approval I think I probably can but that's unnecessary and the people have

stepped up today like they've never stepped up before and remember the word

33 billion dollars more they're paying and you'll hear that from the Secretary

General a little while he thanked me actually he said he actually thanked and

everybody in the room thanked me there's a great collegial spirit in that room

that I don't think they've had in many years they're very strong so yeah very

very unified very strong no problem right no problem mr. president jeong's

lumira The Associated Press you have said previously one of the

countries of step up they're spending a 2% yesterday the suggestion might be 4%

or perhaps 2% in a much quicker timetable can you clarify what do they

commit to doing is that satisfactory to you what they're doing is spending at a

much faster clip they're going up to the 2% level now you have to understand some

of them have Parliament's they have their own congresses they have a lot of

things they have to go to so you know they're here as a prime minister as a

president and they can't necessarily go in and say this is what we're going to

do but they're going back for approvals some are at 2% others have agreed

definitely to go to 2% and some are going back to get the approval and which

they will get to go to 2% afterward 2% will start talking about going higher

but I said ultimately we should be in years in advance we should be at 4% I

think 4% is the right number now the United States depending on the way you

calculate it was at 4.2 percent and I said that's unfair and we have the

largest GDP by far especially since we've increased it by so much since the

thing called the election our GDP has gone way up and so the fact that our GDP

went way up that means we're paying for even more

which is very unfair so I explained that we we will go too much higher than 2%

into the future but right now we're getting people up to 2% and that'll take

place over a fairly short period of time a short number of years ok yeah go ahead

hi Tommy Slav crassness pravachan released Croatian daily newspaper we

understand your message ngratulations weather thank you sorry thank you we

understand your message but some people ask themselves where you be tweeting

differently once you board the Air Force One thank you no that's other people

that do that I don't I'm very consistent I'm a very stable

genius yeah go ahead thank you sir Jamie Dimon with the CNN

how are you quick question with regards to Germany and the comments that you

made yesterday do you feel like given the threats that you made about

potentially leaving NATO about insulting Germany's

it's been a very effective where to go but I'm not negotiating I just want

fairness for the United States we're paying for far too much of NATO NATO is

very important but NATO is helping Europe more than it's helping us at the

same time it's very good for us so we have now got it to a point where people

are paying a lot more money and that's starting really last year it really had

as you were there last year and last year we had a big impact again

we took in thirty three billion dollars more and if you as Secretary General

Stoltenberg he gives us total credit meaning me I guess in this case total

credit because I said it was unfair now what has happened is presidents over

many years from Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama they came in they said okay do the

best you can and they left nobody did anything about it and it got to a point

where the United States was paying for 90 percent of NATO and that's not fair

so it's changed we had a really good meeting today we had a great meeting in

terms of in terms of getting along I know most of the people in the room

because of last year because of a year and a half that would have been in

office year and a half plus but we have a great relationship everybody in that

room by the time we left got along and they agreed to pay more and they agreed

to pay it more quickly yeah go ahead fill a mr. president Filip

record from the Washington Post you you tweeted yesterday what good is

NATO and you've talked about NATO as an alliance that benefits Europe that

defends and protects Europe do you see any value of NATO to the United States

Lisa V Russia does it help protect the United States from Russia in your view I

think it's another very strong ally as together it's much stronger than

obviously individual countries I think it's the way we have it now I think it's

a much I think NATO got you know what was happening with spending prior to my

getting into office the numbers were going down now the numbers have gone up

like a rocket ship the numbers have gone up a lot and they've gone up rapidly and

they're now going up further so I think NATO is going to be

very very effective I'm very impressed with it and really know and he's a

friend of mine but Secretary General Stoltenberg has done a fantastic job and

putting it all together and we were the ones that really we gave him an

extension of his contract as you know I think he's done a really good job I

think that when I was saying that I am very concerned with the pipeline I don't

like the pipeline and when I talk about NATO I said how do you have NATO and

then you have somebody paying the people that you're protecting against but maybe

we'll get along with the group that we're protecting against I think that's

a real possibility as you know I'm meeting with President Putin on Monday

and I think we go into that meeting not looking for so much we want to find out

about Syria we will of course ask your favorite question about meddling I will

be asking that question again but we'll also be talking about other things we'll

be talking about Ukraine Ukraine was here today by the way and you know it's

very interesting to hear what they had to say so excuse me well he may I mean

look he may you know what am I going to do if he may deny it I mean it's one of

those things so all I can do is say did you and don't do it again but he may

deny I mean well you'll be the first to know okay yes go ahead wall with the

Wall Street Journal yes if our Germans and the Canadians and others don't come

up to two percent what is your fallback position how will

you up the pressure to make them actually well they will they will I have

no doubt about it they all made commitments and they will be up to 2%

it'll be over a period of relatively short period of years

Georgian TV pilots renews mr. president what do you think today needs that these

are not Georgia most support from NATO and I want to ask about Georgia they

were here today representing yes and we we talk about Georgia in a meeting with

mr. with the President Putin well they were here they made a very favorable

impression and we listen to their plight it's a

tough situation with Georgia but they made a very favorable impression in the

room okay go ahead yeah you really did come on go ahead I had a question as

well but nonetheless I last heard it will you really recognize yeah will you

recognize Russia's antics of Russia when you mean is an interesting question

because you know long before I got here President Obama allowed that to happen

now that was on his watch not on my watch you know people like to say oh

Crimea but the fact is they built bridges to Crimea they just opened a big

bridge that was started years ago they built I think a submarine port

substantially added billions of dollars so that was on Barack Obama's watch that

was not on Trump's watch what I have allowed it to happen no I would not have

allowed it to happen but he did allow it to happen so that was his determination

what will happen with Crimea from this point on that I can't tell you but I'm

not happy about Crimea but again that was Barack Obama's watched not Trump's

watch yeah go ahead sure Jeff Mason from Reuters mr. president Oh Jeff regarding

your summit with President Putin will you be raising arms control issues would

you like would you like to extend new start and when you raise concerns about

violations of the INF treaty yes and I just follow up to the NATO meeting today

will you suggest to him or would you consider stopping military exercises in

the Baltic States if that's something that he requests well perhaps we'll talk

about that but I will say that we are going to be talking about those three

issues and many more we'll be talking about it Jeff okay

Evoque HC career leaders we are in the net of the porters the costed elbows the

double as planned before I would like to know if you are planning to guarantee

the taxpayers that the new money that is flowing into NATO will be spent in the

best possible way especially the money coming from country that have several

problem with the public finances well the money will be spent properly one of

the things that we have we have many wealthy countries with us today but we

have some that aren't so wealthy and they did ask me if they could buy the

military equipment and could I help them out and we will help them out a little

bit we're not going to finance it for them but we'll make sure that they're

able to get payments and various other things so they can buy because the

United States makes by far the best military equipment in the world the best

jets the best missiles the best guns the best everything we make by far that's

one thing I guess I assumed that prior to taking office but I really learned

since being president our equipment is so much better than anybody else's

equipment when you look at our companies Lockheed and Boeing and Grumman what the

material the equipment that we make is so far superior everybody wants to buy

our equipment in fact it's a question can they make it because they are doing

very well can they make it for so many people so we are helping some of those

countries get online and buy the best equipment yeah go ahead hi I'm Kristin

brown with Fox News on your upcoming summit with President Putin did any of

your allies here express any specific concerns or talk to you about any

messages that they'd like you to take with you when you go to the job just the

opposite of concern they actually and they'll probably come out with a little

bit of an edict but they actually thanked me for meeting with President

Putin I look forward to the meeting they thanked me they thought it was a great

thing that I was doing it and they gave us our best wishes or their best wishes

now with that being said we'll see what happens just a loose meeting

it's not gonna be big schedule I don't think it should take a very long period

of time and we'll see where it leads but it could lead to productive something

very productive and maybe it's not but I think meeting with people is great we

had a great meeting with chairman Kim and I'll tell you Mike Pompeo did a

fantastic job I might ask you to say a few words Mike while you're here just

one second Thank You mr. president so I did I returned actually came

straight from North Korea with a couple of stops here to Brussels we had a

productive conversation there remains a great deal of work to do but I think

most importantly my counterpart kim yeongcheol made a commitment consistent

with what President Trump was able to achieve with chairman Kim which was they

intend to denuclearize they're going to accomplish it and now the task is to get

it implemented it's just a finish on that you know so important that was an

amazing really an amazing meeting I thought and I really think that we

established very good relationships we'll see where it all ends but there

have been no missile tests there have been no research where there's been they

have blown up a site I hear they're blowing up another site missile site

they've taken down all of the propaganda in fact somebody said there's no more

music playing at the borderline you know the music was going on for many years

they said recently that wow there's no more of the heavy music and the

propaganda they've they've done a lot of things and we got back our three

hostages so it's a good it's a good process but the main thing is there have

been no rocket launches there have been no missile tests there's been no nuclear

tests no explosions no nothing for almost nine months okay

yeah please sure McCaskill from the Guardian and your trip to the UK well

there are lots of protests planned in London and elsewhere how'd you feel

about that I think it's fine I mean I think they like me a lot in the UK I

think they agree with me on immigration I'm very strong on immigration I made a

point today I said you've got to stop your ruining your you're gonna have a

lot of problems you see what's going on throughout the world with immigration I

probably at least partially won an election because of immigration if you

look at Italy giuseppe who I got to know quite well over the last month and a

half he won his election because of strong immigration policies on Italy I

think that a lot of the people in the UK I think that's why Breck's that happened

now I don't know what's going on with the negotiation who knows but and I

guess that's become a very interesting point of contention I said I'm going to

a few hot spots we have NATO that we have the UK and then we have Putin and I

said Putin may be the easiest of them all you never know but I'm going to a

pretty hot spot right now right with a lot of reza lot of resignations but I

will say that immigration is a very important thing and I told them today

the EU the European Union better be very careful because immigration is taking

over Europe and they better be very very careful and I said that loud and clear

yes president antenna 3 Romania what will you tell President Putin about this

summit and about NATO well I think he's gonna see about this but this has turned

out to be a very successful summit this is I think I think really that NATO is

more put together right now is more coordinated and I think there's a better

spirit for NATO right now that perhaps they've ever had it's richer than it

ever was the commitments are made at a higher level than they've ever been made

and the money to be paid out faster far faster you know the two percent was a

range of all it wasn't something that they were committed to

now it's a commitment there's a big difference the 2 percent number and

that's why so many people weren't reaching it or hitting it it was just

sort of like this amorphous number out there now it's a commitment a real

commitment I think he's going to see that there's great unity great spirit

great esprit de corps and I think we're gonna have a good meeting regardless of

that I think we're gonna have a good meeting but this was a fantastic two

days this was a really fantastic it all came together at the end and yes it was

a little tough for a little while but ultimately you can ask anybody at that

meeting they're really liking what happened over the last two days there's

a great great spirit leaving that room yes sir go ahead please

yeah Jonathan Beal from BBC I just just what do you think you're gonna get along

with President Putin and me just tell me why do you think that is there something

you admire about him and the second question cuz he's just about to go see

what he's a competitor he's been very nice to me the times I've met him I've

been nice to him he's a competitor you know somebody was saying is he an enemy

is that my enemy is he a friend no I don't know him well enough but the

couple of times that I've gotten to meet him we get along very well you saw that

I hope we get along well I think we get along well but ultimately he's a

competitor he's representing Russia I'm representing the United States so in a

sense we're competitors not a question of friend or enemy he's not my enemy and

hopefully someday maybe he'll be a friend it could happen but I just don't

know him very well I've met him a couple of times and when I did meet him most of

your people were there yes and Briggs it sorry sir because you are getting to the

UK what will be your message

you

the United States so we're here to talk about that and I'm sure it will be

resolved I have great confidence in the Secretary General, he's worked very

very hard on this and he knows it's a fact, but I have great confidence in him

and his representatives. You're going to say something. First of all it's great to see you again Mr. President

and they good to have you here for the summit and we are going to

discuss many important issues at the summit among them is defense spending and we

all agree that we have to do more I agree with you that we have to make sure

that our scientists more the good news is that the Allies have started to

invest more in defense. Eh after years of cutting on defense budgets has started

to have started to add billions to the defense budgets and last year was the biggest increase in

spending for Europe and Canada in a generation. Why was that last year? It's also because

of your leadership because they declared message and

I have said it before things that really has time it's in your message is having

an impact we are going to build on that to make sure that we have further

increases you initiated last year that all allies are going to develop national

plans and also spend more on defense and based on these national plans we

now estimate that in our ........... will add 266 extra US dollars for

defense from now and billion US dollars until 2024 so so this is

really adding some extra moment it helps moving in the right direction but we

still understand absolute to do more and that is what we want to address after

the summit later on today. Let no other strong NATO is good for Europe it's also

good for United States, the u.s. Winter Fest this year helps to protect

Europe but also helps to not distance project power to Middle East and

Africa and I think also have found the military cloud

of Europe the cloud, the political cloud is also itself oil deal with with

Russia and we look forward to the meeting with President Putin I think

that our leader is also forward to your thoughts about the meeting with us

Well I have to say I, think it's very sad when Germany makes a

massive oil and gas deal with Russia where you're supposed to be guarding

against Russia and Germany goes out and pays billions and billions of dollars a

year to Russia so we're protecting Germany we're

protecting France were protecting all of these countries and then numerous of the

countries go out and make a pipeline deal with Russia with them paying billions

of dollars into the coffers of Russia so we're supposed to protect you against

Russia but they're paying billions of dollars to Russia and I think that's

very inappropriate and the former Chancellor of Germany is the head of the

pipeline companies and supplying the gas. Ultimately Germany will have almost

70% of their country controlled by Russia with natural gas so you tell me

is that appropriate I've been complaining about this from

the time I got it they should have never been allowed to have happened but

Germany is totally controlled by Russia because they will get it from sixty to

seventy percent of their energy from Russia and a new pipeline and you tell

me if that's appropriate because I think it's not and I think it's a very bad

thing for NATO and I don't think it should have happened and I think we have

to talk to Germany about it on top of that Germany is just being a little bit

over 1% whereas the United States and actual numbers is paying 4.2%

percent of a much larger GDP so I think that's inappropriate also you know we're

protecting Germany we're protecting France we're protecting everybody and

yet we're paying a lot of money to protect now this has been going on for

decades this has been brought up by other presidents but other presidents

never did anything about it because I don't think they understood it or they

just didn't want to get involved but I have to bring it up because I think it's

very unfair to our country it's very unfair to our taxpayer and I think that

these countries have to step it up not over a 10-year period have to step it up

immediately. Germany is a rich country they talk about they can increase it a

tiny bit by 2030 well they could increase it immediately tomorrow

and have no problem I don't think it's fair to the United States so we're gonna

have to do something because we're not going to put up with it we can't put up

with it and it's inappropriate so we have to talk about the billions and

billions of dollars that's being paid to the country that we're supposed to be

protecting you against you know everybody's everybody's talking about it

all over the world they'll say well wait a minute was supposed to be protecting

you from Russia but why are you paying billions of dollars to Russia for energy

why are countries in NATO namely Germany having a large percentage of the energy

needs paid you know to Russia and taking care of by Russia now if you look at it

Germany is a "Captive of Russia" because they supply they get rid of their coal

plants they got rid of their nuclear they're getting so much of the oil and

gas from Russia I think it's something that NATO has to look at I think it's

very inappropriate you and I agree that it's inappropriate I don't know what you

can do about it now but it certainly doesn't seem to make sense that they

paid billions of dollars to Russia and now we have to defend them against Russia.

NATO is an alliance of 29 nations and there are sometimes differences and

the different views and also some disagreement

on the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany issue with allies disagree but the strength or NATO is

that the despite these differences we have always been able to unite around

our past to protect and defend each other because understand that we are

stronger together than apart. I think the two world wars on the Cold War focal

stuff we are stronger together than apart... But how can you be together when a country

is getting its energy from the person you want protection against or from the

group that you want protection because we understand that when we stand

together also in dealing with Russia we are stronger I think what we have seen

is. No you just make it Russia richer we're not dealing with Russia we're making

Russia richer. I think even during the Cold War NATO allies were trading with

Russia although there have been disagreements about what kind of trade arrangements with

food. I think trade is wonderful I think energy is a whole different story

the energy is a much different story than normal trade

and you have a country like Poland that won't accept the gas you take a look at

some of the countries they don't want accept it because they don't want to be captive to

Russia so Germany as far as I'm concerned is captive to Russia because

it's getting so much of its energy from Russia so we're supposed to protect

Germany but they getting their energy from Russia.

I think you have to explain, you know.....

thank you
