Hello, pictures that are almost 2-3 years old from various social media apps are shown in my gallery with current dates. 

For example if the original picture was sent/taken on april 2019 they are shown as feb 2022 in the details. These pictures are also backed up in google photos.

I think this issue began last week. Everyday there are random pictures being backed up from different years into my samsung gallery.

Most social media remove the EXIF data, thus Google photos uses the file date. That's usually fine because these photos are often shared the day they are taken, but for example when they are moved or copied they may get a new date.

I think its something related to the gallery app itself as almost all the pictures have new dates hence they are showing up in the gallery.

"Free up space" indeed deletes photos from your device when they are backed up to Google Photos. 

You can download all (or preferably) selected photos to your device:

Unfortunately Google ignores the folder structure on the phone, thus the photos do not go back to the folder they come from.

I was afraid I was going to have to recover this way, very time consuming and frustrating.  There needs to be better info on what happens to the pics during reorganizing.   Another tech lesson learned for me, haha. Thanks so much for the help

I fully agree, and we asked Google to improve the warnings, but it takes a too long time. 

 

A few more things:

• You can ask yourself whether you need all photos back on the phone. They are (or should be) all available online. But be sure to have a backup in a safe (not 2-way synced) place. 
  See Google Photos "Free Up Space" command is scary 
• You can also bring them back to the phone by USB cable
• You can add the photos to albums in Google Photos similar to the folders on your computer or phone. Future photos can be manually added to these albums: for Android: select them in the folders shown in "Library > Photos on device", tap + and select the relevant album.

It looks like you're trying to restore some photos from Google Photos. If yes, could you please confirm if you can find out the photos through the web version of Google Photos? 

Also, check if the photos are present in the Trash of Google Photos and restore them through the below steps:

• On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  
• At the top left, tap Menu.
  
• Click on Trash.
  
• Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  
• At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
• In your phone.
• Into the "Photos" section of the app.
• Into any albums it was in.

But if you've already deleted the photos from the Trash from your Google Photos, there is no other way to restorethem. 

That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedback about it through the following steps:

• Open Google Photos.
  
• Click on Menu.
• Select Send feedback.
  
• Click on Send.

The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

 

First, you should remove the screenshot from your post.

Click the three dots & select edit.

 

Next, to reduce the photo size, you can do so through these two options in Google Photos.

• Upload the picture in space saver quality. That will produce some size reduction.
• Crop the pic to remove unwanted portions from the borders. That will give further sizer reduction.

Still, if you wish some further reduction, I suggest using another app, "Snapseed", by Google.

Once installed, the editor in Google Photos shows that option through "More".

 

In the settings of Snapseed, you can do image resizing within a range from 4000 px to 800px. Additionally, you can choose JPEG compression ranging from 95% to 85%

A combination of both options would resize the file to the desired number.

I had enabled partner sharing long time ago for my Google photos. Till date, the photos appear automatically and instantly whenever I take a new pic/screenshot. 

My partner is now irritated with this service and would like me to disable it. However, I now do not see partner sharing enabled in the Google photos app or website settings. In fact, I see the page asking me to enable partner sharing!

That means now I do not know how to disable partner sharing as there is no single place for me to disable this setting (I have searched thru all the settings). 

What can I do now?
