Iran FIRES missile in defiance of Trump warning as WW3 tensions escalate

The Khoramshahr missile is a new ballistic weapon with a range of 2,000km (1,200 miles). This comes as Iran said it will strengthen its missile capabilities and not seek any countrys permission to perform terrifying tests.

The new missile is capable of carrying several warheads and was on display yesterday in a military parade. HORROR: Iran tested its new ballistic missile.

State broadcaster IRIB carried footage of the missile test without giving its time and location, including video from an on-board camera which it said showed the detachment of the cone that carries multiple warheads.

You are seeing images of the successful test of the Khorramshahr ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 km, the latest missile of our country, state television said. This is the third Iranian missile with a range of 2,000 km, it added.

President Hassan Rouhani yesterday rejected demands from US President Donald Trump. Trump has denounced Iran as a rogue regime" and said its government was bent on "death and destruction". Rouhani has criticised the US leaders "ignorant, absurd and hateful rhetoric".

BRAZEN: President Hassan Rouhani is defying President Trump with more missile tests.

THREATENING: Iran has conducted a missile test, it announced this morning.

It comes after the US announced fresh sanctions on Iran in July over its ballistic missile programme. Trump claimed the country supports terror organisations. It also imposed sanctions on Iran after a ballistic missile test in January.

This was due to what was termed as a violation of the spirit of the 2015 agreement between Iran and six world powers to limit its nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.

President Trump campaigns for Sen. Luther Strange in Alabama - Duration: 7:08.

ROBERT COSTA: Hello. I'm Robert Costa. And this is the Washington Week Extra.

We're just days away from one of the first critical tests of the Trump era in the

ongoing fight between establishment Republican and the populist/nationalist whatever you

want to call them. The battle is on between these two groups in the Republican Party

in the GOP Senate runoff in Alabama. It's to fill the seat vacated by Attorney General

Jeff Sessions. What's different this time is President Trump has lined up on the side

of the establishment. He's campaigning to support incumbent Senator Luther Strange,

the favorite candidate of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. On the other side,

Roy Moore, the controversial former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

His army of grassroots supporters includes tea party favorite Sarah Palin, the

president's former chief strategist Steve Bannon, and many of the president's own voters.

Will Trump be able to tip the scale here Friday night and in the next few days, Phil?

That's the question. And what a - what a wild race this has been.

PHILIP RUCKER: And this is a real risk for President Trump.

He's putting a lot on the line by flying down to Alabama to campaign with Luther Strange.

Look, the polls don't look good for Strange. For a while now he's been behind Roy Moore.

There was actually the first round of voting a month ago. Roy Moore won; Luther Strange

came in second there. And so Trump is trying to prop up Strange, trying to get him over

the finish line with this big rally in Alabama tonight. And the question is, is

he - is Strange going to emerge a winner? And if he is not, it could potentially be

a real anchor on Trump with his base and stick with Trump for a long time.

ROBERT COSTA: But, Phil, why wouldn't - President Trump's a political king in Alabama.

Why wouldn't that be enough to carry Luther Strange over?

PHILIP RUCKER: You know, Trump is a king in Alabama, but Roy Moore has been running

around the state speaking the language to Alabama. He's talking in a very religious

way. He's talking - he is an Evangelical, and he's really motivating these voters.

They see Strange as an establishment figure, as a puppet for Mitch McConnell.

And Moore is promising to go to Washington to shake it up, to do basically what Trump

campaigned on doing when he ran for president last year, and there's a real appeal there

for a lot of these Trump voters.

ROBERT COSTA: A lot of implications, Shawna, for 2018.

SHAWNA THOMAS: There are some implications for 2018.

How strong is Donald Trump when it comes to some of these states when all politics is

kind of local? Like, what we are seeing here to a certain extent is that, as you said,

Roy Moore is a known commodity there. Also, Luther Strange got his job in the

Senate under very strange - I just said that - (laughter) - circumstances in -

ROBERT COSTA: Governor Bentley.

SHAWNA THOMAS: Governor Bentley, who had to - who had to leave office, Luther Strange

used to be the attorney general of Alabama. There was some behind-the-scenes wheeling

and dealing that made a lot of people nervous, and people know about that in Alabama.

And so this may be more of a local race than we're letting on, but D.C.

is turning it into something that is much more national, like does McConnell, does Donald

Trump, and does a whole lot of money win you a seat?

And we don't seem to know the answer to that, but we will on Tuesday. (Laughter.)

ROBERT COSTA: Leader McConnell, Julie, has poured a lot of money in there, in Alabama,

at least through his aligned super PAC. In part, McConnell allies tell me that

he needs to show that Republican incumbents can survive in the Trump era.

JULIE PACE: Because there are other races as we look into 2018 where this similar

dynamic could play out. Arizona is really top of the list, where you have Trump on

the other side, where he's promoting primary challengers to Jeff Flake, who's the

incumbent Republican senator there. And this ties into what we're seeing on the Hill

with health care, because while Republicans in the Senate have a majority, it is a

very slim majority. And McConnell already has some problem children on his hands there.

He's got Rand Paul. He's got people like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee on other issues that

pop up. Roy Moore is the kind of senator who would get into office and create a whole

heck of a lot of problems for McConnell. He would not be a reliable vote when he

needed him. And with this narrow margin, as they look at next year's agenda - as

much as there would be one in a midterm year - McConnell knows that he needs

a reliable vote in Luther Strange by his side.

SHAWNA THOMAS: And that's something someone told our correspondent, Alex Jaffe, who's

down in Alabama right now.

Louie Gohmert, who is a member of Congress, was down there campaigning for Roy Moore.

And he told her that Moore winning gives the GOP on the Hill freedom to buck the

establishment, that he sees this as their ability to sort of do whatever they want,

depending on what they feel their constituency wants and the kind of Republicanism that

they have. And if that plays out, it's an issue for Senator McConnell.

PETER BAKER: It's also an issue for President Trump, of course. Now, we know

presidents don't actually always translate their popularity with, you know, other

candidates on the ballot. That's been true for a long time. Certainly Barack Obama

saw that in two different midterms, when Democrats lost a lot of seats.

But what's interesting is a test of what do people want out of President Trump?

The people who really like him, what do they want him to be?

Because he has shown flexibility, let's say, at times over certain issues that you would

think would alienate or upset the people who voted for him. And yet, they have stuck

by him, this - not a majority of the people, but the 35 or 40 percent who really do like him.

And it leaves you to see how far he can without, you know, taking a chance with that kind

of loyalty. You saw - you saw - you showed not only Steve Bannon. You showed

Sebastian Gorka, another former White House aide, standing there next to Roy Moore.

It's a really interesting moment.

ROBERT COSTA: About that interesting moment, Phil, just to wrap us up here on Alabama,

when you think about Bannon and his whole crew - Governor Palin and others - if Roy Moore

wins, what does it mean for them?

PHILIP RUCKER: It's huge for them. They've put a lot on the line. Bannon has done a

couple of things. He's instructed Breitbart to take a very pro-Moore, anti-Strange

approach in their news coverage on that website. He's funded some efforts. There was

this rally last night that we were talking about with Palin and Sebastian Gorka.

And this is Bannon, who's no longer in the White House, no longer has to toe the line

with Trump, saying I'm going to fight for the Trump voters even when the president's not

with them. And there's a real break here. And I think if Moore were to win, it would

lift up Trump. But there's another problem that we should point out with Moore, which

is that he makes a lot of statements and espouses a lot of views that people see as

sexist, misogynistic, anti-gay, racist, and so forth.

And if he were to get elected and come to the Senate, it's going to be a big distraction

for the Republican Party because every time he says something other Republicans are going

to get asked do they agree or not agree.

ROBERT COSTA: That is - you hear that all around Washington. It's not so much electing

Senator Strange again. It's about keeping Roy Moore out of Washington so he doesn't

become a burden for the Republican Party.

PHILIP RUCKER: Exactly.

ROBERT COSTA: That's it for this edition of the Washington Week Extra.

That's where you can find the latest reporting from your favorite panelists, including a

meddling in the election. I'm Robert Costa. See you next time.

North Korea news LIVE: Kim Jong-un threatens Trump with H-bomb – World War 3 fears latest - Duration: 10:07.

North Korea news LIVE: Kim Jong-un threatens Trump with H-bomb – World War 3 fears latest

Here are live updates and the latest news on North Korea and the US.

11:30am: Tremors in North Korea spark fears of a new nuclear test The South Korean meteorological agency picked up an  earthquake was picked up in Kilju area of the North Hamgyong province in north Korea.

The tremors were measured 3.4 on the Richter scale, sparking concerns that they were caused by an explosion and not an earthquake.

Previous quakes reported in North Korea have been attributed to nuclear tests, South Korea's meteorological agency believes it could be a natural earthquake this time.

Thursday September 22 1am: US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says Donald Trump will take appropriate actions if North Korea launches a missile into the Pacific Mr Tillerson, said: We will continue our efforts in the diplomatic arena, but all of our military options is on the table.

And once we can assess the nature of this threat, the President will make a decision regarding the appropriate actions. Friday September 22 7:17pm: North Korea thinks Donald Trump is weak, claims expert Kim Jong-un made it clear in a state news agency broadcast that he was considering the highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history against the US.

The dictator warned: I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire. Jeffrey Lewis, Director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program, thinks this could be a sign Kim Jong-un thinks he has Mr Trump on the ropes.

The North Korea expert told Express.co.uk: I think the most important part of the statement is the one about the frightened dog barking loudest.

This was the same view that the Chinese had – that the US makes so many nuclear threats because Americans are afraid of nuclear weapons.  I think Trumps reactions are being read by the North Koreans as weakness and indecision..

6:43pm: There is no magic fix for North Korea claims expert Joe Cirincione, president of the Ploughshares Fund, thinks that Pyongyang needs to be hit with more sanctions, but ultimately there is no magic fix for the problem.

We clearly need more sanctions. Its good to have more sanctions. But weve been sanctioning Korea for years now. Theres no magic fix here, Mr Cirincione told ABC News. In the end you cant sanction North Korea into collapse or compliance.

Youre going to need a negotiated solution. The expert underlined that the hermit regime will not surrender its weapons, based on what happened in precious US conflicts.  They look at Iraq, they look at Libya, and the lesson they draw is that if you give up your weapons America is going to kill you," he said.

12:55pm: Rex Tillerson confirms commitment to North Korean diplomacy US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has acknowledged the hardships of pursuing diplomatic talks with North Korea, but confirmed that the efforts will continue.

We are quite challenged but our diplomatic efforts continue unabated, Tillerson said in an interview with ABC. We have put in place the strongest economic sanctions ever to have been assembled against Kim Jong-un.

So he is being tested with the sanctions, voices from every corner of the world..

12:40pm: North Korea aims to test hydrogen missiles, expert claims The North Korean regime could be among to fire a nuclear-tipped missile over the Pacific Ocean in response to Donald Trumps threats at the UN.

Pyongyangs Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho has suggested that Kim Jong-un was considering the possibility of testing an unprecedented scale hydrogen bomb.

It may mean North Korea will fire a warhead-tipped (intermediate range) Hwasong-12 or Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile and blow it up a few hundred kilometres above the Pacific Ocean, said Yang Uk, a senior researcher at the Korea Defence and Security Forum in Seoul.

They may be bluffing, but there is a need for them to test their combined missile-bomb capability.

They could have already prepared the plan and are now trying to use Trumps remarks as an excuse to make it happen, the expert said. 12.30pm: Sebastian Kettley takes over live reporting from Reiss Smith.

11:30am: Russia 'deeply concerned' by Trump and Kim threats Moscow is deeply concerned by the escalation of tension on the Korean peninsula caused by the continued war of words between the United States and North Korea, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

"Moscow is convinced that there is no alternative to a political and diplomatic settlement of the North Korean problem, he told a conference call with reporters.

He said the situation was being further aggravated by "the swapping of silly statements full of threats".

8:30am: China calls for restraint China has called on the US and North Korea to exercise restraint amid an unprecedented war of words between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang also told a daily news briefing in Beijing that China opposes unilateral sanctions outside the United Nations framework.

His comments came after US President Donald Trump ordered new sanctions against North Korea on Thursday over its nuclear and missile programmes.

6am: North Korea warns it could drop H-bomb over Pacific Ocean North Korea could launch a nuclear weapon over the Pacific Ocean in response to Donald Trump's threat to "totally destroy" the hermit state.

The country's foreign minister Ri Yong Ho told reporters in New York: "This could probably mean the strongest hydrogen bomb test over the Pacific Ocean." He conceded that any such test would need to be ordered by Kim Jong-un, adding: "We have no idea about what actions could be taken." Kim Jong-un has called Donald Trump a "mentally deranged dotard", and has warned that the president will "pay dearly" for his threats to strike North Korea.

In an unprecedented video, the despot said that North Korea will consider with seriousness exercising of a corresponding, highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history. I am now thinking hard about what response he could have expected when he allowed such eccentric words to trip off his tongue, Kim said. .

I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire.

Kim's words were a direct response to Mr Trump's shocking maiden UN speech, in which he said that the US will be left with no choice but to "totally destroy" North Korea if provoked.

"No nation on Earth has an interest in seeing this band of criminals arm itself with nuclear weapons and missiles," he said.

"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.

"Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.

Iran fires ballistic missile in defiance of Trump sparking fresh WW3 fears - Duration: 2:34.

Iran fires ballistic missile in defiance of Trump sparking fresh WW3 fears

The test-firing of the Khorramshahr missile, which Iran said could carry several warheads, is likely to raise concerns in Washington.

State broadcaster IRIB carried footage of the missile test without giving its time and location, including video from an on-board camera which it said showed the detachment of the cone that carries multiple warheads.

The state television reporter said: "You are seeing images of the successful test of the Khorramshahr ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 km, the latest missile of our country,. This is the third Iranian missile with a range of 2,000 km..

The Khorramshahr missile was first displayed at a military parade on Friday, where President Hassan Rouhani said Iran would strengthen its missile capabilities without seeking any countrys permission.

General Assembly on Tuesday, Donald Trump said Iran was building its missile capability and accused it of exporting violence to Yemen, Syria and other parts of the Middle East.

He also criticised the 2015 pact that the United States and other world powers struck with Iran under which Tehran agreed to restrict its nuclear programme in return for relief from economic sanctions.

The United States has imposed unilateral sanctions against Iran, saying Tehrans ballistic missile tests violated a U.N. resolution that endorsed the nuclear deal and called on Tehran not to undertake activities related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.

Iran denies its missile development breaches the resolution, saying the missiles are not designed to carry nuclear weapons.

Trump Nominates Anti-Gay Tree Nut: Sept 22 Debrief - Duration: 3:45.

Donald wants to give a lifetime judge appointment to a guy who thinks that marriage equality

will lead to people marrying trees.

And that's not even the craziest thing he's said.

Plus the Republican health repeal bill is back from the dead.

And "dead" is coincidentally what a lot of queer people will be if it passes.

It's an urgent week for action and I'll have all the info you need on Weekly Debrief.

Last week I told you about Jeff Mateer, who Donald Trump just nominated to be a federal

judge.

That's bad news because Jeff has no experience, and a track record of working alongside hate

groups.

Well guess what -- he's even worse than we thought.

A new video emerged this week of Jeff Mateer calling transgender children part of "Satan's

plan."

He also defended ex-gay treatment -- that's the phony mad science that claims it can change

a person's sexual orientation, despite mountains of evidence that attempting to do so is incredibly

harmful.

Jeff also said that marriage equality would lead to debauchery.

Now the word "debauchery" means different things to different people, but to Jeff Mateer,

it means the ability to, quote, marry a tree.

He actually said that.

That given the freedom to do so, people would want to marry trees.

Okay Jeff.

So what kind of damage could this tree nut do?

Well, as a federal judge, he'll hear cases about constitutional protections.

And there are a ton of cases relating to LGBTs coming up through the courts right now.

Just this week, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the state of Michigan over gay couples denied

access to adoption services.

Michigan pays private organizations to place children into new homes.

The problem is that some of those organizations take the taxpayer money, and then refuse to

place kids with same-sex parents.

Not only does that force kids to wait in unstable living situations; but the state is using

public funds to discriminate against its own citizens.

The ACLU's lawsuit, and cases like it, will be heard by federal judges.

And if Donald gets his way, those federal judges will believe crazy things about queer

people, just like Jeff Mateer.

And if Jeff's already calling trans kids satanic and thinks marriage equality means marrying

trees, just imagine the kinds of rulings we're going to get after he has a life appointment.

Normally this is where I'd be telling you to call your senators and tell them to oppose

Jeff Mateer's appointment.

But we've got a bigger fire to put out right now: Trumpcare is back, somehow, and heading

for a senate vote in the next few days.

The Republican health plan would be catastrophic for queer people, gutting coverage for LGBT

folks who are at heightened risk for a wide range of illnesses.

The previous versions of the Republican plan cut funding for things like PrEP, which would

likely lead to a rise in HIV.

It eliminated funding for Planned Parenthood, which in some cases is the only place LGBT

patents can safetly obtain care.

It disproportionately cut services for LGBT seniors.

It placed additional burdens on childless couples, who are more likely to be queer in

part because of discriminatory practices like Michigan's.

So yes, Jeff Mateer is bad and we need to stop him.

But Republicans are pushing a health plan that's really a lack-of-health plan.

And right now we need to metaphorically kill it before it literally kills us.

So, call your electeds at 1-844-USA-0234.

Text RESIST to 50409.

And email at Democracy.io.

Then hopefully next week we can get back to our regularly scheduled freakouts over judicial

appointments.

Until then, keep sharing these videos, keep in touch @mattbaume on Twitter.

And I'll debrief you next week.
