Transfer Photo's from internal storage to sd card

Question: Transfer Photo's from internal storage to sd card

Cannot find away of doing this on my moto g30

Hi, Howard Morris

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

You can follow these steps to move the pictures to the SD card using the Google Photos app,
  • Tap on the Library view.
  • Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device.
  • Select photos by long pressing, then tap others after a tick confirms the first selection. You can also long-press and slide down while still in pressed condition to select a range of pictures.
  • Tap the three-dot menu top right
  • Tap Move to folder
  • Tap New SD folder, type a folder name, then tap Create
Note that if the photos are in the Google Photos cloud, this will not remove them from the Photos.
Further, even if you do not select this new SD folder for Backup & sync, any content in that will still be removed if deleted using the Google Photos app.

Question: how can I take a screenshot

I looked at google but doesnt help

Hi, ashanti madden

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

s
The steps to take a screenshot vary between phone models & android versions.

However, if you have activated OK Google or Hey Google detection on your phone, the easiest way would be to say, "Hey Google take a screenshot". Then the Google assistant will do the work for you. However, once the screenshot is ready, upload that through Google Photos.

Nevertheless, the following are the standard methods to take a screenshot.
  • Long press the power button & tap on the menu option "Screenshot".
  • Press the volume down & power button simultaneously.
  • Press the volume down & home button simultaneously.
  • Press the power button & home button simultaneously.
  • Pull down the notification panel & look for the screenshot option.
You may try all these or refer to the documentation provided by your phone's manufacturer.

I have some very nice panoramic images with ~40MP resolution, in HEIC.
Google uploads the original from my iPhone, and they are still 40MP.
But then when I edit them in Google Photos, they get resized to about 12MP resolution!  Is there a way to avoid this?
The solution seems to be to use iPhoto on my iPhone for editing, which causes Google Photos to upload a new image in 40MP with the edits included.  This is fine by me, but as a long-time Google enthusiast, I would have preferred to do my edits and curation in Google Photos.  It's a bit funny that, were I go get an Android again, I would not be able to do huge panos and edit them at full res!  Is there a way to convince Google Photos to not resize my nice huge panos when editing?

Answer:

@Luca
Edits in Google Photos always are saved at "high quality" (= storage saver quality) which also will reduce the "resolution" to 16 MP.
Normally you don't notice that because iPhone-pictures have a resolution of less then 16 MP, but with these pano's 40 MP goes down to 16 MP - maybe lower due to some restriction on the pixel-width.
So your editing in iPhoto solution still is the best approach if you want to backup the best quality possible.
But you still should be aware that no normal display is able to show a 16 MP pano at 16 MP resolution.
Even on a 4K screen the pano will be shown at a resolution of about 4 MP at best.
Good luck

Answer:

One does huge panos not only to display them on screens... I find it very lame that Google Photos reduces resolution while editing, especially since I pay for the storage myself.  I use it also for my 24 MP DSLR photos!  The upshot seems to be, do not edit photos in Google Photos.
It is sad to see that Google has become so un-ambitious in its products.

Answer:

Sorry Luca, that has been the case for years and does not have anything to do with paying for storage - it just is some basic design decision and because we are volunteers, whe can't explain that decision.

So it is a bit strange that you did not notice the reduction to 16 MP for your edited 24 MP DSLR-images.
But I can't check if the rules were changed recently because my own images never exceed 16 MP.
Maybe the reduction only restricts to some maximum pixelwidth with your pano's which result in 12 MP instead of 16 MP as usual.

Answer:

For DSLR images, I typically edit them with Capture One, and then upload on Google Photos the finished product; hence I have not noticed.
For phone images, given how much I otherwise like Google Photos, my plan was to edit them there.
But I will instead switch off automatic backups from the phone (to avoid duplicates), edit them in iPhotos, and then upload them to Google Photos once finished.
The upshot is, Google Photos is a great place where to save and share photos; just one should not edit them there.  And if I want big panos, I should stick to my iPhone.

Answer:

Even if your 24 MP DLSR-raws were not reduced to 16 MP, they would have been reduced to small jpg-files. So your bypass via pc always is the best workflow - but also for regular iPhone-pictures.
If you sync them to pc via iCloud, you get the original jpg's instead of the strongly compressed heics in phone-storage. And then you can upload edited and selected pics to Google Photos for having a good quality for backupping and sharing.
Even apart from your incidental pano's.
Best

PS: just tested with my semi-prof 12 MP Panasonic-camera. The original jpg is 6.8 MB on Google Photos but after downloading a slightly edited picture in my Chrome-browser, the filesize already was reduced to 3.0 MB indicating a new version compressed to storage saver quality.
Very confusing indeed, but just as usual since years for me.

My sister, and both my daughters have been trying to share photos with me but I'm not receiving them. For my daughters they have added me as a shared partner and chose all photos but again i dont have them. How can i fix this?

Answer:

Hi Kristy,

>>>> My sister, and both my daughters have been trying to share photos with me but I’m not receiving them.

I would start by looking at the "Sharing" selection at the bottom of the Google Photos iOS app or at: https://photos.google.com/u/0/sharing

>>>> For my daughters they have added me as a shared partner and chose all photos but again i dont have them. How can i fix this?

Partner Sharing is a single relationship between two people.  It must be accepted by the recipient. I don't believe that it would let your daughter attempt to set-up Partner Sharing with you if you already had a relationship with somebody else, so the most likely issue is that you did not see a notification to accept Partner Sharing...
Go to the Google Photos settings in the Google Photos iOS app (tap on your profile photo or icon in the upper right corner) or https://photos.google.com/u/0/settings
Scroll down to "Partner sharing" hopefully the action required will be obvious.

Also in Settings, "Notifications" Turn on the Toggle for "Partner sharing"  (you can turn this off later if you don't want to be notified every time that your daughter saves images to Google Photos.  Then at the bottom "System notification settings" > "Notifications" > Turn on "Allow Notifications" and "Time Sensitive Notifications" (again, you can tweak these in the future).

Also, if you use more than one email, maybe your sister or daughter(s) are sharing to the other account (check if there is a chance of this).

Kristy feel free to post follow-up questions to this thread. Other people should create their own "New" post because mixing issues can get noisy or confusing.

Ideas from other are, of course, welcome.

It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool.  My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

Best regards,   Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Hi everyone

I recently switched from android to iOS and decided to press back up photos in Google photos. My photos have now lost their meta data e.g date photo was taken. I'm not sure why that has happened and I'm worried . Help please !

Answer:

@Alikeri
Not clear what you have done, but if you have started that backup-process on your Android (a bit late), no metadata will get lost assuming that your pictures have metadata. But if many did come from social media, they have no metadata at all. So they get the actual date of backupping now.
That's all I can say about - no Google fault, but caused by Whatsapp etc.

PS: if it merely are pictures from your Android-camera, they should have all metadata apart from location which may have been switched-off in your camera-settings. But at viewing in the Photos-app on your iPhone, there maybe some delay before they get back their original dates.

And also everyone of my 30,000 photos and videos are now trying to be backed up again. Now all the videos and photos were uploaded to Google photos but now there are 15,000 items awaiting download which are these duplicates of the camera photos. Surely this can't be right? Answer:

Hi Aakash,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

No, the photos and videos will not be automatically changed to High-quality (free unlimited storage) after you cancel the subscription. However, you may change these settings manually by following these steps:
  1. Select High quality selecting for future uploads:
    • On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
    • Sign in to your Google Account.
    • At the top, tap Menu .
    • Select Settings  Back up & sync.
    • Tap Upload Size.
    • Select High quality
  2. Change your already backed-up photos and videos to High quality.
Let me know how it goes.

Best,
