To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery either, you can download photos one by one.
Regrettably, there is no option to download the photos in bulk.
 
Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/.
Select the Google Photos app for data download.
Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.

But after naming one photo and going to name another completely different photo, the name i put on the next one gets put on the last one. They continue swapping like this by themselves randomly among the ones i have named and sometimes even erase descriptions. They are completely different pictures and i don't know why Google photos takes it upon itself to change things. Leave them the way i put them. I'm highly tempted to just find some other app that doesn't play sick games.

To convert a picture to PDF, please tap to open that & slide up.
AT the rightmost edge below the pic, you will find an option to print. Tap on that.
Then, it will show all the available printers. A print to PDF option will be there by default.
Select the right size of the paper, margins etc., & tap print.
That will save the picture as a PDF.

Producing a photo in Black and White is normally a function of the camera you are using.
 
For photos already taken, see https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128850 where it refers to editing a photo. When the edit mode is enabled you will see a group of filters, Eiffel is the nearest to Black and White as per the screenshot online.

There can be multiple reasons for the video not producing any audio.
  • You may not have allowed your camera app to access the microphone on your device.
  • The audio codec encoded by the camera app may not be compatible with Google Photos.
  • You may have muted the video, or the volume may be too low.
Can you verify these possibilities?
 
Nevertheless, can you try installing some different video player app like VLC & see whether that outputs the audio?

This sounds more like a problem with the Picaboo service than Google Photos. As a work around I suggest downloading any photos you want to transfer to Picaboo first from Google Photos, then going to Picaboo and uploading them straight from your phone.

Google Photos syncing is different than the phone auto backup. You need to have backup and sync enabled in the Photos app. Additionally sometimes you need to actually open the Google Photos app in order for the backup to begin after taking photos.
 
Once you reset your phone and sign in to the new account, open the Google Photos app, it will take some time for it to sync with the server and show your images. You can confirm what it will show in the meantime by going to photos.google.com

I have moved photos to a folder and deleted them from the main photos album, to not duplicate them. Appears it deleted them entirely. As without noticing whilst I was attempting to create space I also emptied my bin and archives. Only after realising duplicates deleted originals too. Can someone help? I am hoping to access a previous backup or one prior to that, since they would in theory still be there

Sorry no hear, but that does not mean that your father ever has had pictures on https://photos.google.com if you are able to log-in with his Gmail-account.

There are several approaches here:
 
Unfortunately,  High Quality photos from prior to June 1, 2021 in your old account which did not count against your storage quota (not that it probably really mattered in a school account) will count in your new account.   
 
Method C is probably the easiest, but it does not move albums.  You could combine Method C (probably first) and then Method B if albums are important to you.  There is a possibility that Method C won't work (depending on the configuration settings at you specific school).
 
Work slowly, and deliberately.  Don't delete anything until you have done some reasonableness tests, and be careful that videos have completely transferred.  Wait for several days after you are sure that everything has transferred (just call me superstitious). Actually, you don't really need to delete anything in the old account, you can let it just fade away if you want.
 
Other opinions and ideas are welcome!
 
It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool.  My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

That is not but the app simply shows what you have on phone without any further actions. 
And the Google Photos app does not have any relation with the Google Drive app. 
At photos.google.com in the Chrome-app you can see your private content at Google and because you have switched off backupping, you are free to delete a lot (most likely only the recent ones after June 1 will take space in your Gmail-account). And thereafter you should neglect the unsynced changes in the Photos-app in order to prevent deleting your local files. 
See one.google.com/storage for your overall space at Google and any further cleaning-up.

Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.
 
Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.
 
However, you will find some tips in the following article compiled by experts with comprehensive experience on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.
