Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

 

To protect your content in Google Photos, you will have to follow these steps.

• Set up two-step authentication for your Google account.
• Change the password to a complex combination of letters, numerals & special characters. No one should be able to guess the password.
• Never share your password with anyone.
• Use screen pinning when you hand over your phone to someone for making a call etc.
• Log off from browsing sessions from desktop PCs.
• Check the devices you continue to remain logged in through the link https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity. Remove any unknown device.
• Do not share your photos & videos with anyone when you are suspicious about falling into the wrong hands.
• Remove any partner sharing for the same reason.
• Refrain from sharing your photos & videos on any social media.

Once you ensure every step as above, there wouldn't be any possibility of your photos & videos ever getting leaked.

 

Nevertheless, it's always prudent to have two or more local backups of photos uploaded to any cloud storage.

Why is it that when I go to share pictures, some of my contacts have an option to "send via Google photos" (which appears to be the fastest and best way to share) but other contacts, who I know for a fact have Google photos set up on their phones or computers, do not have this option and I can only share to their Gmail or phone number (which is much less reliable, I've had several issues trying to get pictures shared to them and they never received them)??

I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean. All the purple people have the "send via Google photos" and the white people, with whom I have shared pictures with in the past, do not have that option! How do I fix this and get "send via Google photos" to come up as an option for them??

Most likely the people with gmail only don't use gmail for mailing at all, so they never have opened your link received in Google Photos and maybe they hardly use Google Photos either.  

Perhaps their files flow away via social media mainly.

The weird thing is when I try to send pictures to them via email, it only occasionally works. So far the most consistency I've seen is when opting to send things to their phone numbers and then clicking the link they send. Pretty annoying overall...

I suggest you clear the cached & stored data of the Google Photos app & then reinstall the app.

You can do that through these steps.

• On your Android phone, open the Settings.
• Tap Apps and notifications.
• Tap Show all apps.
• Tap Google Photos.
• Tap Storage and cache.
• Tap Clear storage.
• Next, uninstall the Google Photos app. 
• Power off the phone & then restart.
• Install the latest version of the Google Photos app through the Play Store.

Log into your profile & see whether that helps overcome the current problem.

I havent EVER agreed to my photos being uploaded to google photos, however, it still happened without my knowledge. When i saw all my folders on Google photos, there was one that i immediately deleted as it contained highly sensitive, however very important images. Right afterwards i realized that the folder has been deleted from my phone too! I only wanted to delete it from Google pictures and now i cant find it anywhere, not even in the trash folder as it deleted the above mentioned folder altogether! What can be done? I need those files (that folder) back asap!

Sorry, but there was no need for your actions because the app simply shows what you have on phone, just like your "Samsung" gallery. And without any special settings, nothing is uploaded into your private Gmail-account space. 

In panic most people also empty the trash on the Library-page and then that content also is removed from your phone and can't be recovered anymore. 

But normally I would have suspected that your sensitive content was in some locked folder within your "Samsung" and then that folder would have been not visible under "Pictures on device\

I didn't want to get backup my taken Screenshot but it's automatically get backup even I turn off Screenshot backup option.

Please solve it ASAP.

We can't solve anything, but the app simply shows what you have on phone. 

And even if some were backupped, they are within your private account space in your Gmail-account. 

But if you wish, you can delete them at photos.google.com in the Chrome-app. 

You can use the new locked folder under Utilities on the Library-page to hide these special screenshots.
