To allow the app to backup over mobile data, follow these steps.

• Tap your profile icon
• Tap photos settings
• Tap Backup & sync
• Scroll down & tap mobile data usage
• Set daily limit as "Unlimited". Choosing this removes a lot of trouble.
• Tap the slider in front of "Back up whole roaming". That ensures uninterrupted backup even while roaming.
• Next, through the settings on your phone, allow the Google Photos app to use internet data in the background.

Once you ensure all these settings, the app will start backing up, uninterrupted.

First, ensure you have the latest updated version of the Google Photos app.

 

Next, to unhide a person, follow these steps.

• Tap the search icon at the bottom. 
• Tap view all to see the thumbnails of all the persons in people & pets.
• Tap the three dots at the top right corner 
• Tap on the menu "Hide & show". Please note this menu works like a toggle. If you tap once, the hidden faces become visible. If you tap a second time, then the person will hide again.
• Now you will see all the hidden persons with a symbol of eye & a slash across that. 
• Tap on the eye once. Please note, the eye icon also acts as a toggle. Tap once, the person will be unhidden. Tap a second tome & then the eye will reappear, hiding the person once again.
• Once the eye symbol is gone, the person's thumbnail will become visible again.

Alternatively, you can try to do so through another route.

Please enter the link https://photos.google.com/people in the web browsers available on your phone. Next, log into your account & see whether the show & hide option becomes visible through the browser.

I've got literally HUNDREDS of Pixel 2 created folders in Google Photos that my phone has decided to…

I've got literally HUNDREDS of Pixel 2 created folders in Google Photos that my phone has decided to create. One for each album I have in google music. I don't want all these photos to appear in google photos, let alone as single images in single folders on my Pixel 2 - it makes it impossible to find the actual folder I am trying to search for.

How do I stop Google or my pixel from creating these folders. I can manually delete all these folder which will take me hours, but as soon as I sync my music they will reappear. There must be a better way!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, I see Robert never replied.  But I'm having the same issue ever since upgrading to a Pixel 4. I use Rocket Player as my primary music app on the phone, and have for many years - going back to a Pixel 2 and a Pixel before it. Never had this issue until the Pixel 4. What can I do to stop these folders from being loaded into Google Photos?

Hey Salim,

So, I figured out how to create a .nomedia file (easy enough). But it will not copy into the folder where all of these album art images are stored on the phone. I'm using a Windows 10 PC to create the file (worked) and to try moving/copying the file to the Pixel 4. Upon copying I just get a random alert sound with no message.

I then thought I'd email the file to myself, get it on the phone, and save it to the folder there. But, gMail won't attach a file with 0 bytes to an email. Could this also be why my WIndows PC won't allow me to save it to the devise folder on the phone?

There are several 0 byte .m3u files in the folder on the phone, so I presume it isn't because the phone can't accept 0 byte files.

You help is appreciated.

Thank you, Salim. I found an app that would create the .nomedia file on my phone and this worked.

Important note for other potential readers facing this same issue. After solving this, I had to go back into my music player app (Rocket Player) and adjust settings to make the app ignore .nomedia files when looking for music. Whew! Without that option, I'd have been between a rock and hard place, since after adding the .nomedia file to my music folder, Rocket Player couldn't find any music at all.

Hello Chris,

 

The Google Photos app acts as a portal to view both the Device copy and the Google Photos 'backed up' copy. It does not store any photos.

 

You can check if the photos are  backed up to Photos - Google Photos - Tap here by signing in with each account.

 

Photos will only be backed up if the setting is enabled in the app, otherwise the app is a dumb viewer of the Camera roll photos.

If person A takes a photo they will need to add the photo to a manually created album and share the album with person B.

Normally there is no difference between .jpg and .jpeg - they both are accepted in Google Photos. 

But it is unclear to me why an optional mobile editor like Google Snapseed stores its results in jpeg-format. 

However: that small difference makes it possible to search for such special files.
