The photos I added are a good example, both are printscreens but one is before opened in editing and one is in while in editing mode.

I can't seem to find any settings where quality is chosen.

I've seen numerous post on this subject, but not quite the problem I'm having. Let me start by point…

I've seen numerous post on this subject, but not quite the problem I'm having. Let me start by pointing out that the dedup form Google works brilliantly. It is just that I'd like to also see the duplicates only once.

What happened. I've been using Backup and Sync so make sure the photos stored on my server are duplicated to the cloud. B&S was cumbersome to use, so when I saw it was discontinued to be replaced by a photo feature in Google Drive, I could live with that.

Installing went with out a problem and within a few day 100GB of photos was synced. But now all photos previously uploaded are show twice. You can see in the porpertis that the source is different. I see three sources: 

1. Uploaded from Back and Sync
2. Uploaded from Drive for Desktop
3. Uploaded from computer

The last one seems to be the label use by B&S in the past, because it show for older photos only only. So all my photos have show twice with sources 1 and 2 or 2 and 3. 

Apart from throwing away everything and start over, how can I keep only the Drive for Desktop versions.

BTW, I'm talking Windows PC and Google Photos website. But if troubleshooting requires use of the Android app, I have access to that too.

The only method I can think of is to delete all uploads prior to the date you installed Drive for desktop.

 

You can select by upload date at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_

 

Caveats.

 

There may be photos skipped by Drive for desktop because they already existed in Google Photos 

All uploads using Drive for desktop will use storage?
