Then your son also should be able to switch-off that syncing also :-)
But simply go to the Library-page and then open the WA-folder in the row under Photos on device and switch-off the backupping. There maybe two WA-folders: one for pictures and one for videos and maybe one for gadgets also.
Nevertheless you can backup any interesting picture to Google, but then you have to select these images manually and then choose "Backup now" under the 3 famous dots.
The Camerafolder is synced always.
Best.

Do you have some file explorer app on your phone?
If not, you can install the "Files" by the Google app.
Then search the phone's memory for all photos.
You should be able to find the folder in which the camera stores the pics.

Can you please clarify the following?
Were these videos captured through the camera on your phone?
Or, did you download those through some social media or web link?
That will help in understanding the cause of the problem.

Now- with that out of the way let's deal with Nusrat Lia's post in Google Photos.
Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!
1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.
2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.
3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.
4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.
5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.
6. Items deleted from your Google Drive will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.
1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

Trying to find out where a photo originally came from
Shane,
That depends on what you actually mean when you say "came from" and also depends on the image file itself.
If the photo was taken with a modern smartphone camera, there is information (called Exif metadata) embedded into the file that can tell you the make and model of the phone, the date and time, the exact GPS location (assuming this option was not disabled by the photographer), and many other things related to the image.
However, some image editing apps erase all Exif metadata, so if the photo was edited that original info could be gone, or replaced with different information by the editing app.
Also, it is possible to edit a photo's metadata to change anything, including the phone/camera model and date and GPS location.

~ Greg

Ronald,
I don't think it would be a problem. TBH, it's unlikely that an actual person will ever see your pictures anyway (except for the photo book cover, of course, and maybe a random page during quality control checks). So, unless there's some super strict conservative AI involved with making photo books, it probably won't be an issue.
If I were you, I'd go ahead and create the book just like any other. Worst case scenario is you get an email telling you they won't do it, but I'd be surprised if that happened.

~ Greg

When making suggestions for new features/improvements, the quickest way (and recommended best practice) is to use the 'Send Feedback' link from within the product itself as that goes straight to the developers to alert them of requested additions or changes to the platform.
Please note that you will NOT, under most circumstances, get a reply.
Please be sure to leave separate Feedback for each suggestions as they may go to different development teams. Thanks

You can check on https://one.google.com/storage whether storage is used by Drive, Gmail or Photos
On https://one.google.com/storage/management you can see which files use most storage in Photos, Drive and Gmail.
On https://one.google.com/storage/management you can see which files use most storage in Photos, Drive and Gmail.
Storage used by Google Photos can be recovered by using "Recover storage" on https://photos.google.com/settings. That will convert ALL (it's all or nothing) photos/videos to the free "High Quality". Save the ones you want to keep in original size somewhere else before you use this option.

Hi, Ashok Kumar Ashok
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Any deleted picture is retained in the bin for sixty days,
If your delete action is recent, you will find all the items in the bin. The bin icon becomes visible in the library view. Tap that & recover everything available in the bin.
However, if your delete action has already crossed sixty days, or you have emptied the bin inadvertently, there is no way to recover anything through Google Photos.
However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps
and run a scan for anything to recover.

However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps
and run a scan for anything to recover.

Question: Google Photos' recovery storage function not working

Hi,
My Google Photos was set to High Quality. About a week ago now uploaded photos and videos from my PC (at least 10GB). Once uploads complete Drive showed that 3.7GB of space used by Google Photos.
I carried out the following actions:
1) I have looked at Unsupported Videos and this is empty - there are none which are unsupported.
2) I selected the Recover storage button. A message appeared stating that the process was taking place
3) I try Step 2 over the course of a week - the 3.7GB is still taken up by Google Photos
4) Sometimes when I select the Recover storage button - I see the following message "Trouble compressing items. You can only recover storage once per day.
5) Sometimes I see no message and when I click the Recover storage button then it seems to be processing ok
6) No matter what I try, the storage is not recovered and I am stuck with 3.7GB of storage being used by Google Photos, and I've had to delete everything from Google Drive so that I can stay under my 15GB limit receive emails etc
7) I contacted Drive support - they told me to write on this forum - they also told me that they would temporarily increase my storage capacity by 100GB - this hasn't happened though!
So in summary, I still have 3.7GB of space taken up by Google Photos and I can't use Drive because of this. The Recover storage Functionality isn't working. There are no Unsupported Videos, Google Drive Support are not helping - really hope you guys can?
Many thanks in advance

This info should go a long way to helping you figure out what's responsible for using your storage. You should also go back to the conversation you had with Drive support and mention that you haven't received the temporary increase in storage.

Biome,
The amount of free storage space you have with Google is shared between Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. This means that any email attachments in Gmail, original quality pictures in Google Photos, and certain file types in Google Drive will all reduce the amount of space you have left.
Visit the Google One storage page to see your current storage usage and some optional (paid) plans for increased storage.
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this. The first basic thing: make sure you're actually looking at, talking about, and interacting with with same Google account. Many people have multiple accounts, and it's not uncommon to have a problem because you didn't realize you were looking at the wrong account.
You should definitely visit the Google One Storage Management page to view more comprehensive details about your files. This is, perhaps, where you'll find the most helpful information about your files. You'll see what's taking up your storage space in Gmail, Drive, and Photos.
This info should go a long way to helping you figure out what's responsible for using your storage. You should also go back to the conversation you had with Drive support and mention that you haven't received the temporary increase in storage.

Thanks Greg for the reply,
Yes I am 100% using the same account and understand the space is shared between Drive, Gmail, Photos
Google One is showing me as 96% full (as I've been forced to delete most content from my drive so I keep on receiving emails....) and it shows 15GB still (weird to be told by Drive Support that they would give 100GB as a temp solution and this not to be implemented, but anyway I think Photos is still the issue as follows...)
Storage Details:

So Google Photos is the issue, as I would like to compress and recover the 3.7GB...
Storage Manager shows the following:
and No Unsupported Videos found either.
I have just tried to look (for the maybe 100th time this week) at the Recover Storage option in Photos, button is enabled, I click Recover Storage and then click Compress, another another box appears (click Compress again) and the following error is produced and the story ends:
Does anything jump out as being weird in the above?
It seems to me that this boils down to the Photos Recover Storage not working? Maybe something weird like Phantom Files which are taking up the space and can't be seen by Photos? I wouldn't imagine that compressing 3.7GB shouldn't be much of an issue for Google Photos to compress and recover?
Appreciate any suggestions or advice you could offer,
Thanks

From the screenshots you've shared, here's what comes to mind:
Of the 14.46 GB storage space being used, Photos accounts for 25.5%, while Gmail accounts for 71.2%.
The fact that more than 10GB is used by Gmail is where I would focus first. How many old emails with attachments do you have? How many of those do you really need?
On the storage management page there's a section that shows emails with large attachments. You should definitely look through that and get rid of old stuff you don't need. If storage management says you have no large photos or videos, that seems to indicate the Recover Storage process was successful.
You should stop clicking the Recover Storage button. The popup message states you can only recover storage once per day. The official Google Photos Help page about upload sizes says the same thing. If you're only supposed to use that feature once per day, and you're trying to use it 100 times in a week, of course you're going to get an error message. If there's a glitch somewhere, you could be exacerbating it with so many attempts to activate the feature.
I understand you keep clicking the button because you haven't yet seen the results you expected. But the fact that you're seeing the error message indicates that the first time you clicked the button that day was indeed received by the system, so there's no need to keep clicking it.
My suspicion is that the problem is not that your pictures and videos weren't compressed when you clicked Recover Storage. Instead, I would venture to guess the problem is the newly available space isn't being properly displayed and transmitted. I presume this because storage management shows zero Large Photos & Videos, and Recover Storage responds to your attempts with messages confirming the process has already been utilized for the day.
So, again, my presumption is the problem is not that your pictures and videos aren't being compressed with the Recover Storage option, but rather the available account storage space isn't being indicated properly.
You could perform a test to see what happens. One of your screenshots shows total storage used as 14.46 GB. (Visit that page again before doing anything so you have the most up-to-date numbers.) This would seem to indicate you've got 0.54 GB, or 540 MB, of available space left. Try uploading to Drive a single file that is more than 540 MB.
If it's just a recording error, your file should be uploaded without an issue because you do actually have enough space. If you can't upload, there could be other internal errors that require attention beyond what you or I can tend to.
Sorry for the long reply. It's just that you've got a lot going on here and I wanted to be thorough and clear.

~ Greg

Hi, sreekhanth malathielangovan

The video player in Google Photos doesn't support captions.
You will have to look for some proprietary media player app.
You will have to look for some proprietary media player app.
Answer:
The Google Photos app is not intended to be used like other movie viewing apps. It is designed to be used with personal media, not professional full-length movie files. Even though the app is capable of showing a movie file, it is not able to include and process the srt subtitle files. For watching movies with subtitle files, you should use a dedicated film viewing app such as VLC or one with full media capabilities.
