Question: How to set latitude and longitude for photos?

Could not find in help.

Surprisingly and unfortunately you cannot do that. Also filling in an address or street name like in Google maps is not possible. You can only add things/locations that are also added in Google Maps, like parks, tourist attractions, but also shops, restaurants etc ...

Answer:

I saw that too, but went to camera settings and tried the save location feature.  Took a pic and then reviewed it for location.  There was the map as you said.  I scrolled down below the map and sure enough, there was the latitude and longitude.  I am using Android 11, so it may just be this version so far.  Thanks so much for the help!  Nice to know other users like you are out there!

Answer:

I had the impression that you wanted to add a location when the camera did not already do it. Your question was a bit too short I am afraid. But glad you have the answer.

Question: Are photos used for advertising, like Google search history is used for targeted ads?

Information about Photos and privacy

Rob,

No. None of the pictures you upload to Google Photos are used by the company in any way.

Google Photos is intended to serve as a storage space for your personal pictures and videos, that's it. Your pictures are still owned by you, and nowhere (that I've ever seen) in the terms of service does it say anything at all about you relinquishing ownership or copyright of your pictures/videos. Google cannot use your images without your consent, and simply uploading your pictures to the online storage space is not implied consent or transfership of ownership.

Your pictures and videos remain private and accessible to only you, unless you intentionally, knowingly, manually share them. If Google wanted to use your images in advertisements, the company would have to obtain your clear written consent to such use. However, Google isn't going to ask for that consent because nobody's actually looking at your pictures. So, they wouldn't even know that you had pictures that might be good for marketing purposes.

The only part of "looking at" your pictures involves Google's advanced AI tech, which is what recognizes similar faces and groups them together, identifies "things" in your pictures (for the purpose of providing results to your personal searches inside Google Photos). But that's it, nothing more. And that's not a person, it's just AI.

Let me know if you have more questions about this.

Regards,
~ Greg

Answer:

Thanks for your detailed and prompt reply, Greg.  You provide a clear answer that my photos will not appear in advertising on Google, but the main thrust of my question was if the content of my photos was used by Google to target ads to me.  For instance, if I take pictures of fish I recently caught while fishing over the weekend, will/can Google use the content of the pictures to send me ads about fishing tackle?

The other uncertainty about your reply is that Google photos are stored in Google Drive.  The Google Drive TOS clearly state that created and uploaded content can be analyzed and used for advertising purposes.  There seems to be an inconsistency here that I find disturbing.  If possible, I would like to hear what a Google employ has to say about this issue. Furthermore, the Google TOS still state that Gmail content can be analyzed for ads, which is at odds with the new privacy policy.  The online documentation is currently misleading and/or out of date.

Thanks,
Rob

Answer:

Robert,

Those are great questions. I will see what I can do about getting an official reply from an authorized Google employee.

Answer:

Hi Greg -
Any further information about this post?  The longer this inquiry goes unanswered, the more I am likely to think that Google soaks up all possible information and content from Photos in order to better profile the users and ultimately serve more accurate/relevant advertisements.  I don't disagree with this business model, I would just like the company to be more open and transparent about how it uses user data.
Thanks

Question: How do I remove vibration when I edit in Google photos?

When I am trying to edit a photo, my phone vibrates. I want this feature turned off, please tell me …

Hi, User 11112200479057113582

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

You will find the option in the settings menu on your Android phone.
Search for the term "Haptics", and the settings will show an option "Touch vibration". Disable that.

Answer:

I turned off every vibration in my new Android phone including all the haptics vibration settings as well because I don't like something buzzing in my hand because it's irritating & so obviously annoying & distracting. I also turned off every vibration that was automatically turned on through every app including the notifications for the Google Photos app on my phone & it still does it. It's very annoying that every time I slide through the edit features it vibrates on every word that I touch. It's stupid. Permissions & settings should not be automatically turned on in a phone or in any app in the first place when it's my choice if I want to turn them on or not to begin with.

I have a pile of photos, the old timey kind, prints from 35mm film. I also have acces to a printer/scanner that's lightning fast in scanning those prints from a document feeder. I would like to send those scans directly to my Google Photo's account, where I could tag them, guestimate dates etc.
The printer can mail scans in one batch to an email address. I would like to skip the steps of mailing to myself, downloading all the images to disk and uploading them again to Google Photos by sending them directly to my Google Photos. Flickr had an option like that, my Box account has a special email address for that. Does my Google photo's have an emailaddress that I can use to let the printer send the photos in?

Answer:

There is no way to mail pictures to google photos. You could scan them to your desktop and then use the backup.sync desktop app to sync them to you account

Answer:

To bad. I think it was available in Picassa and it was definitely available on flickr. I used to use it with my security cameras, when they detected motion is sent the photo to flickr and then that those photos were displayed on a web page.

Answer:

https://photos.google.com/apps

This will allow you to sync/ upload pics to your Google photos account from your PC or Mac.

Answer:

Backup & Sync is not the only way to upload. See this link.

Answer:

All the other methods demand me to receive the images from my printer/scanner first on my own drive before being able to send them to google Photos.

My printer/scanner can mail images. Can I mail those directly to my Google Photos. The answer is no. Shame.
Some services do and if I remember correctly google did too.

Another method my printer/scanner can use is a
SMB upload but that's probably even more far fetched than a mail import.

Answer:

@Peter
To my large experience every scanned image needs a bit of processing before it can be uploaded to Google Photos. And if it are large series, they also need to get dated serially to prevent wrong placing in library.
So direct mailing would cause large problems with quality and organising on the web.
So forget about and do it in the oldmodish way.

My phone is going into repair and the memory will be wiped from my device. I would like to back up my screenshots from that device from another device, the only problem is I don't have back up and sync on for screenshots on that specific device. Whilst the obvious answer would be to go onto that device and enable backup and sync, I can't as the screen won't turn on and that is why it is going in for repair.  I've seen a few suggestions such as downloading Drive for desktop, but none have been able to help thus far.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Pixel phone doesn't offer unlimited storage.
Pics captured through your Pixel phone & then backed up in the "Storage saver" quality don't count towards the space.
Nevertheless, the storage space remains 15 GB only.

(I understand the option Free Up Space, that is why I DID NOT use it.)
I took many videos from a soccer game today.
Came back home and in my pc and into Google Photos, I noticed my Google Storage space is full.
I saw part of the videos were uploaded, so I deleted them and emptied the trash.
Then, more videos were uploaded and again, I deleted them and emptied the trash.
Repeated the process in my pc for a couple more times until all videos were uploaded, deleted and trash-emptied from my Google Storage.
Then when to my Samsung Galaxy to see the videos and they were not there anymore. Not even into Trash.
WHERE are my videos and WHY were they deleted from my phone???
Now I'm pretty sure this happened to me before but back then I thought I made a mistake.
So, again, WHERE are my videos and WHY were they deleted from my phone???

Answer:

"forgotten to switch-off" --- No, I always keep it On

(and you were warned also).  --- No, no warning shown

downloaded these videos to your computer before deleting. --- Yes, usually I do that first

Luckily enough soccer is not that important :-) --- Not for you for sure

pay for more space at Google, --- I do pay for more than 200 Gb

for viewing them in their original quality on a much larger screen. --- Yes, that is what I do

PS: your soccer-videos are nowhere anymore because you did empty the trash (which takes no storage) which also was synced with your phone.  --- I noticed that if you dont have space in your trash (1.5 gb max I think), files are deleted with a warning of no restore possible. That is the reason I empty trash.

Furthermore, I bought a software to recover my videos from my phone. It did find some videos I deleted from my phone itself, but no luck finding the ones Sync took care of. Seems Sync evaporated them without passing by trash (?). Technically zeros and ones from my files still on my phone, right? I don't see the reason to delete them "so much".
