So I got a new phone and when I signed into google it asked if I wanted all of my photos from my goo…

So I got a new phone and when I signed into google it asked if I wanted all of my photos from my google account on my phone, I said okay thinking I could delete the device copies of those I didn't want because I have a lot of pictures. However when I select the photos and try to click the 3 dots, it does not displace the delete device copy only, it only displays the archive button. I have tried to find other ways to delete the device copies of the photos, it even says backup complete. It says I can't use the free up space option because the photos aren't backed up. Please help, thank you.

Hi Robin, if you don't get the option it usually means the photos are not physically on the phone. Try tapping the three bar menu:> Device folders to see if you can see them, Regards, Peters

The Google Photos app acts as a portal to view the Device copy and the Google Photos 'backed up' copy. It does not store any photos. This means that any account you select will see all the device photos but it does not back them up, only the account specified in Backup & sync settings will back up any photos. You can see the actual backed up photos at Photos - Google Photos - Tap here when signed in with each account.
 
You might consider setting up a new user account.
 
 
After creating a new user you can switch to it and set up a completely separate profile with it's own Photos and camera settings.  For example you can switch between the two accounts and have no common apps or settings.  Switching is quick and would allow two Photo accounts to be used completely independently.

If there are many pictures (or videos) in between which originally originate from social media instead of your own Pixel-camera, you always will have that problem because these media are crap. 
Hard to correct, unless on photos.google.com in the browser of your laptop. Then you are able to edit dates in individual pictures back to the original dates of the corresponding messages (if still available).

Then it becomes more mysterious - maybe resetting the app will help and that is not complicated: 
  1. Log-out under its 3 small lines (if you your password only :-)
  2. Close the app and restart the phone. 
  3. Open the app when having good wifi for an hour at least. 
  4. Log-in again under the 3 small lines. 
Then the app will get refilled gradually and hopefully in good order.

They H: well the date on the photos are the upload date to when I uploaded them to a USB drive from my pixel 3xl.  Some photos on my pixel 3xl have the date taken instead of the upload date.  I even uploaded a copy of my photos to my sd card to try somethjng and on the "date taken" stood the same on the ad card.  So when I also tried to upload them from my sd card to my 3xl, the date changed on the 3xl

Not sure why the date taken would get changed when copying them, but that would be why they're out of order on Google Photos. Do you still have the originals with the correct EXIF dates?

Yes the pictures I uploaded to my sd card kept the "date taken," but the dates changed to the upload date when I uploaded them on to my phone.  I deleted the ones on my phone again and uploaded the 1s from from my USB card which had the same pics as the ad card plus recent pics.  Hopefully Google fixes the issue

If you view the images on photos.google.com are they in the correct order? It may just be the app needs to download the data from Google again. Android can't read EXIF data directly I just found out, so it sees the "created" date (created on the SD card). Google Photos should read the EXIF data if it's still there and they would be in the right order on the website.
 
First check the website, if they're right there I'd start by clearing the app data. You can also try logging out of the app and back in as Rinus suggested.

Tenley H:. I don't have the photos backed up just saved on the device.  I didn't back them up because I'm always weary of cloud storage and privacy stuff.  This is a time I miss having an SD Card slot.  I just have them saved on there, take it out,  factory reset my phone, n pop in t back in.

I'm not sure if there's a way to get them back in order then unfortunately, at least not within Google Photos. There may be a 3rd party photo viewer app that can read the EXIF data on the card possibly.

You did not tell us from start that you don't use the Google Photos app for backupping to Google, so then you don't need that complex app at all. But probably it is the only viewer available on your Pixel. 
Please install the very simply Google Go viewer from Playstore which is not connected to the web at all - most likely all problems are solved then.

I was wondering why my saved stories were not shown in Google Photos when my IG settings were set to autosave to gallery. Noticed the photos were detectable when making a new IG story, but the same photos were not shown in Google Photos. I checked my files using a PC and found out IG uses webp already (i think apparently for a while already) but somehow, these pictures aren't found in the Photos library until I did a phone restart.

Google Photos respects your privacy. So no one can see your photos unless you share it with them.

Please click on Sharing tab from the bottom menu and cross check any album are shared. If you find any album in sharing tab , it means you are sharing that album.

Also please cross check you and the other users are using the email id.
