The safest way to delete from Google Photos is to delete the Google Photos app and delete the photos at https://photos.google.com/ or in bulk at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date. Check the trash and if 100% sure empty it (cannot be undone)
The camera roll photos will not be affected.
If you need to reinstall the app do not enable Back up & sync,
The photos will be backed up again if Backup & sync is re-enabled.

If you tap on None it should take you to a page which shows folders which are available to Google Photos. If there are none visible then there is something about the folder which is preventing it being visible. Maybe a private folder related to a third party app you have installed?

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
If you are sharing photos with your boyfriend, you can find those in the Shared section of the app or online (photos.google.com). Click on the album or photos you are sharing with him then remove him and he will no longer have access to the photos. This will be a bit less destructive than completely deleting your account because that'll also kill off your Gmail, calendar, Drive, etc.

We have a shared album with my wife with 3200 photos (during almost 6 years) and related comments.
I accidentally blocked my wife for few minutes and then unblocked her. I reshared the album with her but now all photos she has added to the album are gone along with all comments.
How do I get those photos back? It's close to 2500 photos and comments that are now missing from the album. I have backups of those photos but not any information which of them were in that album and the comments are of course nowhere except on that album.
Desperate for any tips, it's an album of our two sons (2 and 5 yo.) and all the photos we have of them. The photos were commented by several other persons we shared this album with.

Sorry to say, but albums are very volatile: there is no backup or trash for albums. You can recover the photos, but the comments are gone. If you have "face grouping" your wife can create a "live album" for the two boys and add the photos again.

I find it very big disadvantage that there is no backup of the albums especially the comments inside them.
Is there any way of exporting the album content, photo metadata with comments?
Is there any workaround for comments through API or 3rd party tools that anyone is aware of?
I moved to Google photos from Flickr and from there I was able to export all metadata and photos from any album. If my albums are not safe in Google photos, I'm afraid I need to start looking for other alternatives.
It's unfortunately very easy to accidentally block a user. I think it should not be that easily done taking into account the consequences for the albums as big as ours.

When you use Google Takeout for an album, it includes .json files containing data added in Google Photos. I did a very small test, and it does include the comments added to album and to individual photos.
Google does not provide any means to use these data. You will need third party software like EXIFTool and some skills. See more info here.

Well, actually I did block my wife semi-intentionally.
For some reason she didn't see the album anymore under her Android Google photos app albums. So I thought I would reshare the album with her so she would get a new link. There doesn't seem to be possibility to reshare so I thought I would remove her from the album and add back.

Thanks for explaining. Feedback from users (and of course trying, but that can be the hard way) is the only way to learn about Google Photos in many cases. The "Help" is really very basic.
"I thought I would reshare the album with her so she would get a new link."
An album has only one link. Resharing would just send the same link to her again. You can get a new link by turning "Share" off and on again, but then no one would be able to see the album using the old link anymore.
A link in Google Photos is of the type "anyone with the link can view". Users having a Google account can also "Join" the album, but that is not even needed to view, only if they want to add photos, comment, or be noticed when more photos are added. Users can also "Leave" the album, which makes their name disappear from the album, but as said, they can still view it when they keep the link (and you did not block them).

Now that ios14 allows captions on photos on my iphone I have been entering caption information on new photos. Those captions show when I look at the photos using the Google Photo app on my phone. If you set "save all photos" initially, it should have worked. I have helped people do this successfully multiple times but granted probably not in over a year.
You can select and "Add to library" hundreds of images (possibly limited to 500 at a time but it won't duplicate so don't worry about being too precise) at https://photos.google.com/u/0/sharing this is probably easier to do on a computer with a mouse.

If you add a photo to a Google Photos album from inside Google Photos it will not create a duplicate (e.g., use more space). It will still be visible in the "Photos" chronological timeline and any albums (a single image can be added to multiple albums).
