Caveats:  

Google Photos and ~iCloud Photo Library~ use different approaches to data management and should not be used to backup images simultaneously - doing so can possibly result in lost images..

 

NEVER use the Trash can to delete images unless you want them deleted everywhere and forever.

 

Always backup important, critical, unique images in more than one place.  It is easy to back up an iPhone to a computer using the Lightning cable.

 

"Free up space" in the Google Photos app is the safe way to remove images from your device but keep them in Google Photos.  "Free up space" is located in the Utilities section of the app.

 

Unfortunately, sometime the app proposes launching "Free up space" without making it completely clear.  I believe that is what you are seeing.   

 

Personally, I always access "Free up space" in the Utilities area, but use it quite infrequently because I schedule this infrequently (like a month after returning home from a trip when I have taken a lot of photos and after I have backed up my images offline)

 

It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool.  My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

AT the rightmost edge below the pic, you will find an option to print. Tap on that.
Then, it will show all the available printers. A print to PDF option will be there by default.

• You may not have allowed your camera app to access the microphone on your device.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

 

Before proceeding to delete something, please go through these steps first.

• Tap the library -> Photos on device -> View all. Ensure you do not see a cloud symbol on any folder unless you intentionally skip those from the backup.
• Tap your profile icon & check whether you find a message "backup complete".
• Next, visit the site https://photos.google.com & verify all the latest pics are visible there.
• Additionally, create a local backup by copying the content to some external HDD or USB.

Once you are through all the steps above, you can delete the pics through the following steps ensuring to retain one on the cloud.

• Use some file manager or gallery app to delete the photo. 

If not, you can delete it through the Google Photos app by following these steps.

• Tap to open the pic either through the photos tab or on your Android phone through Library - Folder.
• Tap the three dots at the top left corner or slide up.
• Tap the option "Delete from device".

That will ensure your cloud copy remains intact.

Thank you for posting to the Google Photos Forum today, 

 

It's very unusual that it won't play, and even weirder that your file manager can't see the file. If you upload it from your other phone at least you'll have it in Google Photos.

 

Where about on your Pixel is this photo saved? Can you see everything else in the folder?

It's an MP4 video file. It's is stored in the movies folder. If you wish I can send screenshots from both phones to show folders.

I can see the files when I attach my phone to my PC.
