I have deleted approx 2,000 photos and videos fork my Google photos, all dated after June 2019 but none of my storage is being cleared in my Google photos. I started screenshotting the photos and videos I deleted once I realised my GB useage wasn't decreasing and have attached those. 

I started with 1.7GB left on my Google photos, deleted all of these photos and videos and it's not moved even one MB! Which is very unusual. 

I have also emptied my bin afterwards 

Please let me know as with 2k photos deleted, there should be approx 3GB - 4Gb as a lot where videos too

Hello Jo,

 

Storage will only decrease if Original size photos, Storage Saver photos, or unsupported videos are deleted.

 

It may be possible to Recover storage at https://photos.google.com/settings  which compresses and replaces Original size with Storage Saver size. 

 

Head over to https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement  This should give a clue on where the storage is being used. Large photos and videos >5MB are listed and can be reviewed by tapping on the thumbnail to open then select the (i)nfo icon to see more detail about the files.

 

If you delete 1000s of High Quality photos uploaded prior to June 2021 then no storage will be recovered because they do not use any storage.

 

All photos added after June 1st 2021 can be found at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ and all use storage unless added as part of Partner sharing.

I uploaded them without any issues and I can access them on my computer but I can't see them in the app on my new phone. Weirdly enough they appear from time to time in the suggestions (archive e.g.) but otherwise I can't access them. 

I have no idea what else I can try or if I have to somehow manually download them. All I know is that they are successfully backed up, it's the same Google account I just don't see the folders and photos. Do you have any suggestions?

Backup and Sync is a desktop program:- See Back up photos & videos which is a method of uploading photos and videos to Google Photos leaving behind a dummy hierarchy in Google Drive which matches the folder hierarchy on the computer:- See Backup and Sync diagram

 

The interface with Drive is integral to the design and cannot be bypassed, but with Upload to Google Photos ticked the hierarchy does not normally use any storage and provides an added advantage in that the folders can be shared using the Drive sharing capability,

@PeranDi  It sounds like what I want just isn't possible. Since the amount of photos I take with my DSLR compared to my phone is about 500:1 (that may be an exaggeration, but I have over 1TB of DSLR photos), I was using Google Photos mainly as a way to be able to access my entire photo collection on my phone (albeit at reduced quality). I guess the photos were always getting uploaded to Drive, but I never look at the "Computers" structure because I put everything I want to be synced into my computers' Google Drive folder.

@Rinus I know I can manually upload photos, but I like not having to think about it. And regarding the google accounts, I'm sorry for the confusion--I only have my personal account, and since all my work files are just text, they don't take up much space.

@Timothy Just to be clear, the Computers section has different preferences to the Google Drive folder as per the screenshot online.. You Choose the folder which contains the photos you want to be uploaded and it simply uploads a copy to Google Photos using no storage with the HQ settings.

But uploading 1 TB to Google Photos will cause a fully occupied internetconnection for a long period - although the usage can be somewhat moderated under the accountsettings. 

And then knowing that everything gets compressed about a factor 3 on average for having free storage at Google. Nevertheless the full files are uploaded (and also synced to Drive).  

I would not even start with that because we know about all troubles related to the use of B&S with such extreme amounts, but just upload some recent folders straight from Drive to Photos only - say 2018 + 2019. That's a new option under the UPLOAD button on https://photos.google.com - that goes extremely fast. 

And with the uploadsetting on High Quality, these copies will take no additional storage. 

You also can view your Drive-folders on your  phone in the Drive-app in the rare case that you need older ones there. And Gmail connects directly to Drive either. 

So think about before starting any automatics and just try a bit.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? It can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos. 

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:

• photos.google.com.
• photos.google.com/trash.
• picasaweb.google.com.
• drive.google.com (under Google Photos).

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

• Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
• Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
• Clear App data:
• Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
• Touch Apps.
• Select Google Photos in the list.
• Touch Clear data.
• Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
• Visit the Google Play Store.
• Open Google Photos.
• Touch on Update.
