iPhones are abnormal, so they have no "device folders" at all. 

If the received pictures are not visible in some corner of the Apple Photos app, I am afraid that Google can't see them anywhere. Check if there is a main setting in WA about downloading media.

I believe you might be seeing something about about a promotion from 2017.   I attained level 10 last year and never got anything (other than socks at about Level 7).  Note: I was subsequently and unbelievably kicked out of the Google Guides Program after 22,500 contributions (but that is another painful story).

Once we turn on "Backup & sync", the app includes the camera folder by default.

If we disable the camera folder, that turns off backup & sync.

This is the current design feature & there is no way to turn that off.

 

Nevertheless, you can suggest that feature through the help & feedback route.

This isn't something that's possible using the Google Photos app or website. However, depending on how complex the image really is, this can be relatively easy with the right app. I have used Handy Photo countless times for removing things like a small piece of trash in the background, telephone wires blocking a sunset, and yes even people.

 

It might take some time and patience if you don't have experience, but it is definitely possible. I recommend the Handy Photo app only because it has several features for exactly this situation, and many of the normally complex Photoshop tasks related to removing things from an image are done for you in the background.

Yes, there are lots of ways to remove a person from a photo. A few months ago I had the same scenario wherein I have to delete my ex on the photo for I will use the picture for personal purpose. I wished "share with yourself" would work. I would like to use this to test the system, prior to sharing info with others. It is easy to make mistakes when selecting photos. Some times, "classified" info, like passport photos, may slip by.

• You can for example click "Share" > "create link", then "Copy link" and open the link. You will find the link under "Sharing" > "Other shared links".

We have no solution for this problem, but probably you are not aware that you will end-up with an empty gallery and most people are terribly shocked and angry thereafter. 

So learn to use the Google Files app in order to delete an old portion every month after convincing yourself that your backup at photos.google.com is fairly complete.

PS: Google is investigating because it is a problem on certain devices only and that makes it difficult.

I took over 200 photographs over the course of 1 week. Each time I took the batches of photos, I would go into my Google Photos folder and make sure they appeared - they did. 

So, I deleted them off of my phone gallery and now, they are gone from my Google Photos.
