How do I find duplicate photos

Question: How do I find duplicate photos

I want to find duplicate photos that I edited, so I can delete them to save space

Hi, Kurt Ogrinc

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some difference in file format or metadata.

Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.

However, you will find some tips in this article on how to avoid duplicates in the first place & how to remove the ones which are already there.

To convert a picture to PDF, please tap to open that & slide up.
AT the rightmost edge below the picture, you will find an option to print. Tap on that.
Then, it will show all the available printer. A print to PDF option will be there by default.
Select the right size of paper, margins etc & tap print.
That will save the picture as a PDF.

Hi, Ajay Gohel 6870

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, once a user deletes something permanently despite a warning message or allows the content to time out in the bin, Google doesn't maintain any backup.
There is no way to get back the content through Google Photos.

Nevertheless, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.

Answer:

Hi Ajay Gohel 6870,

Once your photos have been permanently deleted then you won't be able to get them back from Google Photos, first you'll need to check to see if they're still in your bin. You can find out how to do this by following the instructions at this link here.

There are apps that you can use on Android that may be able to restore deleted files, if you click this link here it'll take you a Play Store search for restoring deleted photos, you'll be able can find the highest rated apps to see if they help.

As a final attempt to get them back, you could follow these instructions and contact the Google Drive Team:
https://www.google.com/appserve/mkt/p/AFnwnKUsl-F_t0TUyIXrkfObI--uJtlfnEqPpLbeAP2-6U45llAcvRDGpWldi39hQWLt01HdYzieEvV2WG2_dY6lzxpovqAlFkWYvfVa_x0mC8kDUnz7r2AGs_-A5J1fULgzXWGY2iheDap39g

I hope you manage to find your photos, good luck.

Question: how do I send photos via e-mail

I want to send photos from an e-mail account (not gmail), firefox

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Community.

If you are wanting to send a photo via email, it will vary based on what device you are using.  If you are on an iPhone or Android Phone, open the photo in Google Photos then tap the Share icon and you can send it via email (whatever email app you are using) to someone.

If you are on your desktop, you will need to download the photo to your PC/Mac then attach it to your email.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Clinton

Answer:

Hi,

There is no real way for me to answer this as it depends on the plan you have with them.  An email, with or without attachments, consumes data if you are using mobile data.  What you individually get charged for I can't answer.

Clinton

Question: Recover permanently deleted photos and videos

Recover my permanently deleted photos and videos

P
Hello Santhosh Chandralingam ,

If you have uploaded photos on google photos and deleted it please take a look at the below info.

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
    Important:
    • If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
    Empty your trash
If you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.

Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
    • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
    • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:

If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.

Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.

    Thanks.

Can Google improve the document correction function of Google Photos? First of all, due to some force majeure factors, the border of the document in the photographed document may not be straight. Therefore, it is necessary to correct the curved border. Unfortunately, Google photos' document correction design is not scientific at all. If the document border is distorted, after the correction, either the content is missing or the proportion is incorrect. Also, the document photos may have moiré patterns, but you don't have the tools to remove them.

However, Google Photos offers only storage & editing features.
Edit menu allows correction of angular borders but not curved ones.

Nevertheless, the Photo Scan utility in Google Photos captures the borders correctly and straightens out minor curvatures. To do so, the app takes four snaps through the four corners & does the correction.

      Answer:

Of course not - you can use the scan-app with your phone-camera - but the problem with oldmodish paperbooks is that they never are flat. Thereby an old flatbedscanner (or a scanner on top of an all-in-one printer) is more comfortable because then you lie a packed stone on the book.
But then you need a computer also to recieve and process and the scan.

There is no need to take screenshots of video to capture a particular frame.
The edit menu in Google Photos allows to extract any still frame from a video.

You can extract a still frame from a video through these steps.
      • Tap to open the video
      • Tap once again to make the controls visible
      • Tap the edit icon  at the bottom
      • Tap on the middle to make the frame selector visible.
      • Mover the frame selector. You will see a preview of the frame above the selector. Once you decide about the right frame, then tap on export.
That frame will get saved as a still photo in your collection

I have chatted with Google 3x and no solution.  They all have me clear cache and data on Google photos app...then unistall reinstall Google photos app. In the meantime, they tell me the wait to have my app reinstall and back up photos is too long, but they will leave a ticket open for me to refer to if this solution doesn't work. Well it never works and before I can respond to tell them it didn't work,  I get an email telling me my case number is resolved and closed. So frustrating because it takes forever to text/chat the problem over and over to. Just want to be able to use a feature I pay for...I subscribe to Google one...and be able to free up space on my device so I can enjoy my phone again.

      Answer:

      Hello Christina,

There doesn't appear to be a solution for this. I will escalate, but the Google Photos team do not normally provide direct user support. I personally would raise a complaint with the Google One team and ask why they can't escalate internally. After all they all work for the same company and we are a group of volunteers who can only try to help using our experience.

The only thing which might work is to reach out to Google using the feedback option--> Leave Feedback (click here to see full article)

Be sure to include logs and start your feedback with
*Google Photos app crashes followed by your own experience and details as per your initial post

I can assure you this feedback goes directly to the Google Photos team and is used in management reports to drive the roadmap for new or modified features. Unfortunately it is a one way process.

It is possible that the lack of internal memory is preventing the app from working normally and you may have to manually delete photos before it will work again.

The safest option is to move the photos to a Computer using a USB cable which has the advantage of recovering any stragglers.

Deleting from the device by using Gallery Go by Google may be a useful method. You can select a group of photos and use the Share option to Upload to Photos, this will confirm they are backed up, then select the same group and move to trash. Back to the Gallery Go main page and use the 3 dot menu to select trash and empty it.

If you are sure items are backed up at https://photos.google.com/ you can safely delete using any gallery app.

      Regards,

      Peter

      Answer:

      Hi, Barbara Wilson 9338

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Albums are cloud-based entities & possible only with backed up pics.
Folders reside within the internal memory of the phone.

Further, one unique picture can be a member of multiple albums.
However, a folder will contain only a single copy of a photo unless you copy & duplicate that to other folders.

      Answer:

      @Barbara
      Your story is not logical.
Every photo shooted by you goes into one folder named Camera.
      Full stop.
In the Google Photos app that folder is shown on the Library-page straight under Pictures on devide (should have been Folders on device). And I can remove a picture from device or I can copy or move the file to another folder.
But I also can hit the + in order to add that picture to an album at Google for viewing on other devices (and on TV) and sharing, because folders can't be shared or viewed on other devices.
And such Google-albums will survive my phone - folders not - they die with my phone or fall in the river :-)

How can i get google photos to 'free up space' on my sd card safely?

      Answer:

      Hello Gabrielle,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community.

Free up space only works on internal memory, SD cards need to be manually worked on.

If you are getting the warning it means that the photo is not backed up, seeing in the Google Photos app does not mean they are backed up. Backed up photos can be seen at https://photos.google.com/

      Regards,

      Peter

      Answer:

Are you really sure anymore about that Peter.
Because there is a normal setting under the profile circle for allowing the app to delete on sd.
Or is it still a failure of the current free-up funcion?

PS: is it that  the "team" is working on an improved free-up function because of years of complaints and more recent crashes?

      Answer:

      @Rinus,

For years the public response from Community Specialists is that Free up space only applies to internal memory, and I personally think it is the correct action because I do not want my SD contents to be cleaned up by anyone but me.

Confusion regarding exactly what Free up space does was escalated in June, but it is work in progress, awaiting update.

      Answer:

I do agree Peter, but the option in settings confuses me.
However: I am not going into timeconsuming tests.
      Thanks

PS: already years agoo I have protested against the unsolvable problems caused by "FUS", but without any support from the experts. So I am glad to see a bit of movement higher-up now :-)

My iOS Google Photos app no longer shows the heat map all the time in the map view. If I move to an area with lots of pics it shows the pics at the bottom but not their location on the map.
If I select a photo, push up to show the map of that photo it then shows the locations as dots, I can then go back to the original map and sometimes the heat map then shows.

      It's quite sporadic!

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still the same
Anyone else with this issue and any thoughts to getting it back to normal?

      Answer:

      Hi Simon, thanks for posting.

First, can you please confirm which version of iOS you are running?

I checked this out on my iPhone. Admittingly, the functionality I am seeing does not seem much different than what I am used to. If I touch on an area on the map (heat), it brings up the associated photos from that point. Otherwise, it will show photos on chronological order based upon the entire area that is currently visible on the map.

      Answer:

      Thanks, am on iOS 14.7.1

See attached, this is what I see when I load 'your map' photos at bottom but no idea where they were taken.

      Answer:

Hi Simon, thank you so much for sharing more detail and the screenshots. If you zoom in/out on your map, are you ever able to see any of the "heat" spots?

      Answer:

No, not able to see the heat spots when I zoom in.

Two things ive noticed - if I scroll through the images at the bottom of the map screen then grey dots and a thumbnail with their location shows up - not the heat map, just grey dots.  Secondly, if i select an image, then go back to the previous map screen - arrow top left - the heat map sometimes (1 in 2 or 3 times) shows up - or if not then the grey dots appear - see attached, zooming in again only shows grey dots.

It works fine on my ipad and also used to work on the phone.

I also think google shot themselves in the foot.

I take pictures with my phone.

I then want to use them in dozens of apps FROM MY PC.  For years I have been trying to figure this out.  I have yet to find a third party photo manager that does this.

Google drive is such a life saving/changing function that I love google.  Then they leave photos OUT of it so that I am constantly trying to figure out how to get pictures from my phone into my PC.  Just seems a wildly unnecessary headache.

Finally, it seems he may have a solution which is to leave google photos as the cloud storage.

When making suggestions for new features/improvements, the quickest way (and recommended best practice) is to use the 'Send Feedback' link from within the product itself as that goes straight to the developers to alert them of requested additions or changes to the platform.

Please note that you will NOT, under most circumstances, get a reply.

Please be sure to leave separate Feedback for each suggestions as they may go to different development teams. Thanks

I just had a new baby and her photos are getting placed in my other daughter's album as the same person. I can't seem to get Google to create a new album automatically like it always does. I've gone through and selected remove people to get it to fix the algorithm, but still nothing. Help!!

      Answer:

Hi Erin, thank you for posting. As a parent of two young children... I feel your pain! I went through the exact same thing with the birth of my daughter. My advice for you....
      1. Instead of using the "remove people" option, you can edit the name associated with the picture.
        1. Swipe up on the photo
        2. Click the pencil icon to the right of people
        3. Select the red "minus" icon in the upper left of the person, you should see your older daughter here.
        4. The red "minus" will then turn into a blue "plus"
        5. Click this and then you can create a new "name" for your baby
      2. Perform the steps above for all pictures tagged incorrectly
      3. From here, it is unfortunately a practice in patience. The algorithm will eventually correct and start to recognize two people instead of one, but it will take some time.
      4. Here is a link to a good article with screenshots explaining the above https://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-tag-people-and-faces-google-photos#:~:text=Tap%20the%20three%20dots%20in,d%20like%20to%20manually%20tag.
As an added tip, always take advantage of the "improvement" prompts that pop up periodically. This will cycle through a series of pictures where you can indicate whether or not the picture is tagged correctly. This approach will get you on the right path and after some time, you will be enjoying this feature more than you are currently! Please check in if you need any further help.

the first phone i had was huawei y3 ii. i used google photos there, it was the only device with access to this account. some time after i got a new phone, this one, which is xiaomi redmi note 9. i signed in to my account here too. for not any particular reason i rooted my old device (huawei y3 ii) and of course everything got deleted. now, google photos show me i have 2 folders with pictures from my old device while I've already deleted every picture and video i had on that device. it only shows these 2 folders from this phone, while the pictures won't load, it will just show a shade of gray. if i try to delete them a message will appear saying that it needs access to the old phone's sd. i have granted the access but it still won't do anything. i also tried archiving them but whenever i did the app would just freeze. lastly i tried backing them up. they just showed with my other photos but still i couldn't delete them or even find them from my old device. can you delete them or something because it's really bothering me. the first attachment is how the images appear with my other pictures from this phone (only the plain gray ones are the ones I'm talking about). there are more of these btw. the second attachment is the screenshot of how the folders with the pictures appear, the one consists of pictures and the other one consists of videos

Question: Apne Google account ka pura photo ko delete karna

      Yes

      Hi, S p Shaikh

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To entirely delete the photos stored on the cloud, please follow these steps on your Android phone.
      • First, turn off backup & sync.
      • Next, uninstall or disable the Google Photos app on your phone.
      • Next, open the link https://photos.google.com through any browser on your phone. Log into your Google account if the browser asks you to do so.
      • After that, go on deleting the pics one by one. You can speed up this step if you do so through a desktop PC. There, you can select multiple pics through the combination of the Shift + Mouse key.
      • Once you have deleted all the pics, empty the trash bin also.
However, if the collection is sizable, you may not see the intermediate stop of storing the pics in the Trash.
Once done, please block the webpage https://photos.google.com within all browsers available on your phone & desktop PC so that you do not visit that site again accidentally.

Question: How to download all photos to phone

      Nil

      Hi, lakshmi narayana 9891

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery, either, you can download photos one by one.
Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.
However, the local folder structure can not be restored.
To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.
However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/
Select the Google Photos app for data download.
Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.

That will bring everything to your phone.
