tami Bruce Trump drives the narrative on Twitter
no wonder the media and elites don't like it of all the complaints about
Donald Trump by Democrats and never Trump errs his use of Twitter was a
special irritant the establishment was desperate to get mr. Trump off Twitter
not because they were appalled but because they knew it was his singular
and powerful connection to the public it made the difference during the campaign
and his opponents feared it would be his superpower as president as well it would
be one of the rare times they were right about him president Trump's mastery of
the micro-blogging site has become a key factor in his success with governance
self-defense against an old system determined to nullify his presidency and
plays an important part in the art of the deal from negotiations with North
Korea promoting the impact of the tax cuts pushing back on the fictions of the
legacy media to railing against special counsel Robert Mueller's witch-hunt mr.
Trump reminds the establishment everyday of the fact that he is in charge
the fake and fraudulent news media is working hard to convince Republicans and
others I should not use social media but remember I won the 2016 election with
interviews speeches and social media I had to beat hashtag fake news and dead
we will continue to win my use of social media is not presidential
it's modern-day presidential make America great again
the president said in a series of the tweets on July 1st 2017 those who didn't
take him seriously then now only need look at how Americans are viewing the
Mueller investigation The Washington Post reported earlier this month a
shrinking majority of Americans say Robert S Mueller threes investigation of
Russian election interference and possible links to Donald Trump's 2016
campaign should continue the Monmouth University poll finds 54 percent of
Americans saying the special counsels investigation should continue with
support down from 60 percent in March and 62 percent in July a 43 percent
minority said the investigation should end up six
points since March and ten points since last summer the very thing his opponents
complained about his style is exactly what makes him successful some political
critics have mocked the president's comments on the probe as tire aides
about which mr. Mueller doesn't care but that's not the point mr. Trump is
speaking to Americans who have been inundated with hostile and 24/7 legacy
media coverage never Trump ER and New York Times columnist David Brooks is now
regretting the non-stop coverage but only because mr. Trump has taken control
of the narrative on PBS newshour he lamented well he Trump has realized that
the Mueller investigation is not a bad thing for him but a good thing for him
that if he can create a narrative that it's some versus the swamp and that all
the arms of the u-s government are really politicized things controlled by
the democrats are the elites by whoever then he can use the soap opera give it a
new plot twist every single day which is really what he's been doing all week a
new set of tweets just to get us talking about it personally I'm sick of all the
daily stories about it I think we overplay it frankly said mr. Brooks in
other words mr. Trump has been able to interject the reality of what's
happening mr. Brooks can cast that as a soap opera if he wants but it is another
scream in the dark by an establishment mourning the death of a national
conversation that had been controlled only by them in his story during the
2016 campaign about mr. Trump's Twitter use the New York Times reported Mike
Berland a political operative who worked on mrs. Clinton's 2008 presidential
campaign and his chief executive of Edelman Burland calls it the wall of
Trump we've never seen this before in politics mr. Berlin said this is not
just a rally that happens once in awhile this is a continuous Trump rally that
happens on Twitter at all hours he fills the Twitter stadium every day
file this as one of those rare times when the New York Times gets a fact
correct what an example of the depth of the cultural impact of the president's
Twitter uses provided by the Roseanne show on ABC
during the season finale the Conner family is facing financial ruin due to a
flash flood damaging the family homes foundation only to be saved by a Trump
tweet the show's season finale featured a fictional state of emergency
declaration from the president that bailed out the financially strapped
Conners after a storm hit the president's spelled Illinois wrong in
his tweet but it still counts right Darlene Sara Gilbert tracked reported
Huffington Post the very thing his opponents complained about his style is
exactly what makes him successful a trump tweet is an unfiltered exercise in
candor a packet of information about what the President of the United States
is thinking his honesty and the immediacy of the communication builds
trust reporters and critics have been the darlings of the political
establishment for generations in large part because they've controlled the
national conversation courtesy of the perfect storm of Donald Trump and
Twitter those days are over sad
all right moving on to another geopolitical issue that has some pretty
significant implications here at home President Trump taking aim at the Russia
investigation this morning here's the tweet quote who's going to give back the
young and beautiful lives and others that have been devastated and destroyed
by the phony Russia collusion witch-hunt they've journeyed down to washington d.c
with stars in their eyes and wanting to help our nation they went back home in
tatters with more we'll bring in Philadelphia based radio host Chris
Segal 12 10 on your am dial up in Philly everywhere on the worldwide web Chris
you don't I I don't think you seem to really buy that there's a lot of people
in Washington with stars in their eyes no and that includes members of Congress
first of all if I may Leland I apologize for the ensemble today I left my jacket
at the house so there's a reason I look like a blackjack dealer we're just I'm
just impressed as a radio host you got a collared shirt on buddy so so you're
ahead of the game easy easy TV guy no listen either think about Congress as
well as their most everyone in Washington I think we all know the cat's
well out of the bag you go to Washington for the ultimate payday after most
people are not in government service for these altruistic reasons they go there
for the ultimate day when they can get a big fat check from some lobbying firm or
government consultancy group well we've certainly seen at least some who have
been swept up in the Muller investigation Paul Manafort comes to -
people who definitely cashed in whether they did so illegally or not to be
determined this brings up a larger issue here of the president's tweeting about
the Russia investigation he seems much more interested in discrediting the
investigation than he does in really ending it is that that sort of policy
that he's putting out his strategy working and do you think it's a good one
boy I do I mean I don't know what recourse he had he has you know short of
firing which he could do but he's not I think politically inept us to do
something like that he has no choice but to discredit and I think that's what
Rudy Giuliani is similarly doing there they're putting the heat back is the
base buying the discredited Asian Oh 100% I think not only the base but I
think a lot of moderates independence soft
Trump supporters if you will look people that have never supported Trump will
never support Trump and they'll they'll they'll maintain he won this election
because of Russia till their dying day but I think for a good chunk of the
electorate they do agree with him this feels like it's just gone on too long
and this sheer lack of curiosity Leland by most members of the media outside of
Fox News is stunning just stunning well you you you you do in the words of
President Obama get the sense that you're living in different worlds
depending on which newspaper you read which television program or radio
program you watch this from the president also why didn't the 13 angry
Democrats investigate the campaign of crooked Hillary Clinton many crimes much
collusion with Russia question mark why didn't the FBI take the server from the
DNC rigged investigation conceivably the 13 Democrats he's referring to some of
the people on mister Muller's team there the question is is that as he keeps
hammering away at the investigation and at Hillary Clinton it was a great target
when she was on the ballot does this translate to the midterms to motivate
his base to get out and in some ways to sort of keep the Democrat and moderate
Democrat base home I think the answer to that is found in the way the Democrats
honestly are starting to message or not message leyland I don't know if you've
read or heard you've probably discussed here on Fox the stories of Nancy Pelosi
Rahm Emanuel other high profile Democrats that are being urged to back
away from talks of impeachment you think about the the Conor lamb in your state
of Pennsylvania who won by running away from Nancy Pelosi the president showed
up there and it didn't it didn't help he didn't have the coattails when he pulled
out the usual stump speech well it was close but my two-year point about Conor
lamb he ran from Nancy Pelosi the point is the Democrats are not exactly
offering some kind of inspirational alternative and just hitting Trump is
clearly not working to the extent that the leadership is saying don't do it
this will cost us this impeachment talk the scandal talked the American public's
tiring of it so I'm not saying that the Republican base or Trump bases
enthusiastic to run out in the midterms I don't know yet too early to say but I
do know Democrats realize hacking Trump and making it sound like
this is whitewater times two all over again is not working for them they've
said so themselves yeah I'm not they're referring to
whitewater or perhaps Watergate times two but you judge me Watergate my
apologies it's the best I'm sorry you know you live in Washington long enough
you get all the gates mixed up we need Pennsylvania to keep it straight still
have stars in their eyes rather than dollar signs as as does Chris does we'll
see on the radio my friend talk to you soon thank you Leland have a great
weekend
