Question: The photo captions are not showing in albums I've created. How do I get them to display?

The first photo in an album displays the caption, but all captions after that are no longer visible.

Hi Gary,

what do you mean by captions? Google Photos doesn't support captions intended as descriptive text just below or next to a specific photo.

Answer:

I'm an astronomy and space popularizer, a Google enthusiast, and a co-host of the first Italian space podcast since 2007.Having been fully in the Google ecosystem since the start I have extensive experience with its products. I was an early adopter of the search engine in 1998 and Android in 2009. As a member of the Top Contributors, and later Product Experts Program, I have been helping users in the official support forums since 2013.

Answer:

I suspect that Gary means the "Description" you can add in the info field. That field also displays "Captions" added before uploading, or in the past in Picasa Web Albums.

You can always see them in the info field but also in the web app (on a computer) in the left lower corner when the info panel is closed. They do however NOT appear in a slideshow.

In the mobile app (on Android) I only see them when the info panel is open.

Answer:

Thanks, janvb. So how do I re-open the info field (that I somehow inadvertently closed) so the text displays on  the right-hand side of the photo as black type in a white box?

Answer:

Already explained here https://support.google.com/photos/thread/15319538?msgid=15329432

In my "for you" section (https://photos.google.com/foryou) I usually see new creations from Google Photos.  As of this morning I'm seeing a LOT of "auto awesome" creations.   When I click on them they are just clips of older videos.  They are not the expected moving stills that are normal auto-awesome photos.  Hopefully an easily fixable glitch.

Question: How to recover deleted photos

Recover deleted photos

Hi,
thanks for posting to the Photos Community. Here are some help article tips:

Restore recently deleted or archived items
If you're missing photos or videos, check your trash or archive.

Check your trash
If your missing item is in your trash, you may be able to restore it. Learn how to check your trash and restore recently deleted photos or videos.
If your missing item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.

Learn when items are permanently deleted
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can't restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app without backing it up first.
Check your archive
If your missing item is archived, you can unarchive it so it shows in your Google Photos library.

Still missing photos or videos?
Attempt data recovery
If the deleted images were on your phone's local storage, you can try a data recovery application. I don't have a recommendation. Typically, you download the data recovery application to a computer, attach your phone to the computer via USB cable, and then run the recovery attempt on the phone's local storage. (Not on Google's servers.)

Best wishes
