Custom sorting does not seem to be stable. As soon as you add items to the album things may get scrambled. I therefore prefer to Edit Date & time to get and keep things in the correct order in albums whete photos have to be added later. The edited date/time is only used in Google Photos, the DateTimeOriginal in the metadata is not modified.

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!

There really is not a practical way to not show photos in the same account. In General, this is not an issue on modern iPhones.  The cached images are small, and it you are changing the dates to in the past as you load them they probably won't even be cached if you don't scroll back to that time period.

For example, I have approximately 920 photos in my iPhone's Camera Roll and more than 66,000 in Google Photos (all of them cached on my iPhone), my Google Photos storage is 371MB, my ~Apple/iOS~ Photos storage is 3.74GB (or approximately 10 times greater for 1/70th the number of images).

I would be happy to field any follow-up questions, but am in the UTC-7 time zone and going to bed soon.

The free up option removes the originals of pics from the phone for which there is a corresponding backed-up picture on the cloud.

That creates space on the phone to capture new photos.

You may find a cloud symbol with a slash on some of the folders in the library view.

That means you haven't included those folders in the backup.

Everything in those will remain in the phone memory. The app will remove everything from the rest.

Maybe faces were hided by using "Show/Hide faces" feature.

To unhide the faces:

• Select the Albums section.
  
• Near the top of the page, click on the People section.
• Now click on the More icon  at top right-hand corner of Google Photos app.
  
• On the displayed menu click on Hide & show faces. 
• Select the face groups you wish to unhide. Face groups displayed in full colour will be displayed when you exit edit mode. Face groups displayed with an overlay dulling their colour, and an eye with a line through it, will not be displayed when you exit edit mode.
  
• Click Done at the top right-hand corner of Google Photos.

Google Photos does not recognize credit card photos. It recognizes the name of the files, but not the images. Even Google Assistant is not able to find such photos for you so far. (also I can remind you that it is not safe to store such data in the phone's gallery or even in Google Photos, if there is no reliable password for locking the screen)

• You can select photos in that Photos tab, or in "Recently added", tap +, then
  • "Album" to add to a new album
  • or select an existing album
