I made the "mistake" of clicking "Clear Up Space" in Google Photos thinking they were going to be archived. Various folders in my Samsung Galaxy S9 gallery app are now gone and they are also missing in the Google Photos app. I've looked in both app's Trash as well as in Drive, but to no avail.

I don't see a "hamburger" icon either. Is there not a customer service number we can dial into? Otherwise, can someone walk me through the steps to recover these folders as I don't see anything in any forum that provides clear assistance. Thank you.

In Google photos app there's that fun feature that recognizes and automatically tags faces and groups them together. Is there anyway to lock a person's name so it cannot be automatically added to another picture? In this specific case I've lost someone near and dear to me a few years ago and obviously still keep their pictures on my phone, but now it's starting to tag someone else as this person. I looked it up before and it said if I keep trying to retag them it will fix itself in a few weeks. It's been six months. It's kind of a huge punch in the gut when they do the memories thing of last week and show me the person I lost.

That number is nonsense and does not have anything to do with Google Photos at all. 
It related to the historic way Google is archiving your daily shots and their way of presentation still is not updated for what you see at https://photos.google.com without counting the automatic "albums" on top.

If you go to https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout?pli=1 and select Google Photos you can see all these "nonsense" albums that Rinus is referring to if you want to confirm what he says is . Any "real" albums can be viewed at photos.google.com

That's Tenley, but nobody wants to get 324 (or 3240) folders instead of a few decent yearfolders. 
Google really is extremely confusing and outdated with that information on our Dashboard. 

PS1: if we talk about albums on Google Photos, we mean collections created by the user - not the automatics under Places & Things etc. created by Google. 

PS2: you also may view the contents of the Autobackup-album at https://get.google.com/albumarchive - that is more easy. Just view only - don't delete anything there.

Roy, deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.
 
Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(
