Question: I HATE THIS!!!! How can I see all of my photos just put out there not in groups and in books? Argh

I want to see my photos when I hit photos, all of them!!!

Don't understand because can see your stream on the primary photos page of the Google app.
And if these pictures are too large you can downsize them by pinching two fingers on the screen together until you get small square thumbnails grouped per month.
And on the library-page you can create thematic albums which can be shared also.
But the main point is: do you want to keep them safely at Google or not?

Answer:

Thank you that was very helpful I appreciate it. My problem was everything looked like it was in an album instead of just loose photos. Pinching helped I think I was on the wrong page and I got tired of seeing all my photos grouped together in themes,  I just wanted to see them flat out. In other words, when I went to try and share a photo it was hard for me to find it. Thanks again it helped, a lot.

Answer:

Good to hear Laura and all the best.

In the past version of the app the size of the pictures on the main page could be managed via simple settings under the 3 dots and that was by far more obvious.
Old often is better then new :-)

Accidentally deleted pictures on my tablet, now they are showing as blank tiles. Tried to recover from photos.google.com, they are showing as black tiles as well. Can you help me recover previous good versions of these photos they are very important.

Answer:

Go to photos.google.com on your computer browser -- are the photos there? If so, then you know they're safe.

Try going to Settings>Apps, select Google Photos, then Storage, then Clear Cache. If that doesn't help, you could also try Clear Data. If you clear data, then when you open Google Photos again, it will resync the photo database from your Google Photos in the cloud (which might take a little while).

Hope this helps,
Michael D

On Wednesday this week I noted that Google Photos and the camera app are not showing all photos taken.  The photos I can see are uploading to storage without an issue.  The others are not.

I can see all the photos taken using other apps such as Instagram and Facebook or anywhere else I make an attachment.  Below is a screenshot from Instagram which shows several.phofos taken roday.  The other is from Photos, which shows only one for today.

I have cleared the cache as recommended and restarted my device.  I have not done a factory reset as the photos do not appear to be backing up consistently.

Answer:

Hi there,
As you may know, deleting a Google account means you no longer wish to use Google products, and as such, your Google products are gone too.
If you only recently deleted your Google account, you may be able to recover that account and get back your photos. Try these steps.
If you saved your photos on your device or if you put them in Trash you may be able to recover them.

But if it's been too long a time since you deleted your account, or you don't have the photos in Trash, then there's most certainly no solution.

Question: I want. Restore my back up photos

I want restore my all backup photos

Hi Kandan,

If the deleted photos are still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore them as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

Is there any other way?

Hello Shoshannah,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

Could you please try an check if you're able to see the external drive while selecting the folders on "Backup and Sync tool". If not, please check the box upload to photos and you will see "USB Devices & SD Card" button, where you can add your external drive.

Answer:

I have the same problem. When we still had a separate application for Google Photos uploads, it would automatically recognise my iPhoto library on my external hard drive.
Now, it does not recognise it. My workaround is that add the library as a folder to upload, but that causes the photos to upload to Google Drive and not to Google Photos!

Question: How can i restore my permanently deleted files?

I have checked in the trash bin but still could not recover my deleted photos

Hello Aman Bellai. Thanks for posting to Google Photos.
Please note that, due to a variety of reasons, not all files can be recovered - but you can try!

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

6. Items deleted from your Google Drive  will be stored in Drive Trash for 30 days and then be Auto-Deleted from Trash and can not be recovered.

1).If you are using a regular personal account
You will have to contact a Google Drive Specialist who *MAY* be able to restore it. Use this link:

2). If you use a work/student account (G Suite), you should contact your Account Admin as they can restore files up to 25 days after deletion.

a while ago I deleted my google account from a mobile phone. now apparently my photos are gone too. is there a possibility to recover it? there are pictures of a friend of mine who died on Monday and would like to have it back. Thanks in advance

Answer:

Hi Courtney

If you deleted an account from your phone, all the data associated with the account is deleted as well (from the phone. You may still be able to access your account via web browser from a computer.)

You can log into https://Photos.Google.com and log into the exact same account you used to back up the photos to find any images that were safely backed up prior to your deleting the account on your phone.

If the images were not backed up, and only stored locally in the phone, you can try downloading and installing third party data recovery software to a computer. Typically you then attach your phone via USB cable to the computer and then use the software to attempt daily recovery on the locally stored images.

Since you say you deleted the account awhile back it is possible the memory has been written over, so you should have realistic expectations.

You might want to look in Google Drive to see if possible the images were ever stored there or perhaps shared on social media so you can get the photos back another way of the above methods don't succeed.

Best wishes,

Joe

Samsung Galaxy S8. I've tried all suggestions from the help page. I uploaded photos and videos to the app to free up space on my phone storage and SD card. When I deleted photos and videos from phone and SD card, I saw that only my photos were on the photo app and none of my videos. Interestingly, one video (from my phone storage) did make it onto the app. But the other videos (on SD card) didn't. Please help me to find my videos

Answer:

Hello Cody,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

I understand how important the videos are for you and I'll try my best to help. It can be possible that the videos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:
If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Google Photos backs up everything that's there in your device (Device/SD card storage). If all your photos are backed up from your Android device to Google Photos and you're trying to make some device space by deleting photos. I'd recommend using the 'Free up space' option of Google Photos app on your phone.

The 'Free up space' feature doesn't detect content on your external SD card. You may have to move them from the external SD card to your device and then perform the 'Free up space' action for everything to be cleared. Do this only if you're sure all the content in the SD card are backed up to Google Photos.

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

Question: Selected a Wrong Option while installing Google Photos on iPhone !

 I

I have an iPad and an iPhone all my photos on my iPad have come from the iPhone which are linked with the same Id on Apple iCloud. Recently I installed Google photos first, on my iPad and I selected original resolution at set up option for google photos on my iPad, all my photos on iPad got sync and backed up on google photos. Then I installed Google photos on iPhone but by mistake this time I selected optimize quality instead  of keep the option "Keep original resolution\

Answer:

Hi Augustya,

Thanks for posting on the Google Photos Help Forum,

I understand your concern and this is certainly not the experience we want you to have while using Google Photos.

Could you confirm, if you've selected your upload size in the Google Photos as 'High Quality'?  If yes, then the Photos are compressed to 16MP, in order to save space. Photos stored/backed up in"High Quality" in Google Photos doesn't take up Drive Storage Quota (Choose the upload size of your photos and videos). Know the difference:

High Quality:
  • Unlimited free storage.
  • Photos are compressed to save space. If a photo is larger than 16MP, it will be resized to 16MP.
  • You can print good quality 16MP photos in sizes up to 24 inches x 16 inches.
  • Videos higher than 1080p will be resized to high-definition 1080p. A video with 1080p or less will look close to the original.
Original Quality:
  • Limited free storage that uses storage in your Google Account. Check your storage here. If you go over this limit, learn how to buy storage.
  • All photos and videos are stored in the same resolution that you took them.
  • Recommended for photos that have more than 16MP and videos with more than 1080p.
  • Recommended for printing large banners.
Free unlimited storage for Pixel and Pixel 2 users
  • If you have a Pixel, you get unlimited free storage at Original quality for photos and videos uploaded from your phone. You won't be able to use "High quality."
  • If you have the Pixel 2, you get free unlimited Original quality storage for photos and videos uploaded from Pixel before Jan 16, 2021. After that, new photos will be uploaded at High quality for free. If you upload new photos at Original quality, it will count against your storage. Photos uploaded before Jan 16, 2021 will remain free at Original quality
  • Learn more about backing up on your Pixel phone
To recover the used space of your Google Quota, first you will want to change the setting under 'Backup & sync' in the app setting on your phone to ensure future images get uploaded at 'High quality'. To convert the existing photo, on a computer go to photos.google.com and go to your Settings

There is a "Recover Storage" button in there that will do this for you. If you've follow the same steps, then please know that this activity would take a while depending on the number of photos and videos that are backed up to the Google Photos library.

1. Using a computer, go to photos.google.com/settings.
2. Click RECOVER STORAGE.

If you have photos in Original quality and want to save some space, change your already backed-up photos and videos to High quality. This setting will not appear if you don't have any photos in Original quality.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

Hi Amanda,

I am not sure if you understood my question. I want to save my photos on Google Photos in Original Resolution only. That is how it is on my iPhone and iPad and that is how it is on Google Photos that I have installed on my iPad. Now while installing on iPhone I wrongly selected High Quality but I aborted the process in between and completely uninstalled the Google Photos on iPhone. So my question is, for the brief period that the Google Photos was backing and syncing Photos from iPhone on Google Photos would that have overwritten the Original Quality of the same Photos coming from iPad to Google Photos (Mind you a lot of Photos on my iPad and iPhone are the same, infact they have come from iPhone to iPad using iCloud Library) How do I preserve that the Photos in Original Resolution that I had uploaded from my iPad to GP have not been overwritten by iPhone uploading to GP for the same photos. Hope I have explained you.
