A few months ago, I did the procedure to "hide" some pictures in the Archive section.

However, just a few pictures were kept there. The others are gone! I can't find them neither at Photos nor at Google Drive.

There were some pictures since 2013 there. I don't know if I did something wrong, but I really need these pictures - there are lots of good memories and stuff I'll need in the future!

Could you guys help me? I tried to get some help from your colleague at Google Drive help chat, but he couldn't help me, unfortunately, 'cause the pictures has not been removed through Google Drive - I confirmed him that, despite of the sync, I always have managed the pictures by Google Photos.

I used to have an Android device until August, 2018. Since that, I use an iPhone, so now it's iOS. And the last time I saw these missing pictures were in May or June - I did this "archive" procedure at Google Photos app for iOS.

Please, give me some hope!

In short - no. It is not possible to recover photos that have been permanently deleted from Google Photos. On an Android device, there are "recovery" applications available in the Play Store, but I caution you to use those at your own risk.

But a slideshow can't repeat.

You can install the Home-app and then you can select that album for ambient viewing in a slow tempo.

But that is a random selection - say about 100 of a total of 1000 and that goes on untill hdmi is switched off.

Google photos app on iPad Pro iOS 11.3.1 has stopped showing photos that were backed up via other android and apple devices. This is not a backup issue on the other device, believe me they are backed up. Once I delete the app and reinstall, the backed up photo show up for a while then they suddenly stop showing up again. FYI, the albums and stylized photos that were taken on other devices show up you just can't see the photos when you click the photos icon within the app. I have deleted and reinstalled the app multiple time, this is the only way to fix the issue, but this is getting annoying.

I appreciate you for trying to fix the issue yourself and letting us know the steps you have tried. I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:

Do a force restart by holding the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logoappears.
If the application freezes or is not responding, you can force the app to close by holding the power button until the red slider Slide to Power Off appears. Do not slide the slider. Instead, hold the home button for 5 or 6 seconds, and you should be returned to the home screen.

Lastly, you can try the below mentioned steps if all else fails:

Go to Settings.
Turn on Airplane Mode.
Wait a few seconds, and turn it back off.
Tap on the Settings icon.
Select the General menu.
Scroll to the bottom and tap on Reset.
Select Reset Network Settings.
The device will take a minute or so to reboot.

Starting with the Pixel 4, Google stopped offering "free" original quality backups. Can you please confirm which backup setting you have selected?

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
Sign in to your Google Account.
At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial.
Select Photos settings Back up & sync Upload size.

Uploads using "storage saver" do no count toward your limit.

In short, it depends on what devices you had previously used to backup pictures to Google Photos and what your expectations are for what should be stored. The new policy was effective June 1st of this year, you can read more here. Depending on what device you were using to upload pictures, they may or may not be counted toward your quota as original quality.

Possibly too much for the app, Google are aware, but we don’t have any updates.

The safest option is to move the photos to a Computer using a USB cable which has the advantage of being able to recover any lost stragglers.

Deleting from the device by using Gallery Go by Google may be a useful method. You can select a group of photos and use the Share option to Upload to Photos, this will confirm they are backed up, then select the same group and move to trash. Back to the Gallery Go main page and use the 3 dot menu to select trash and empty it.

If you are sure items are backed up at https://photos.google.com/ you can safely delete using any gallery app

I just got a new device. On the previous one, I had disabled backup & sync, and I did the same on the new one. Still, all the photos I took with my previous device are available on the new one (if I have an internet access, otherwise I just have a thumbnail), which mean that they are stored on a Google server. I did not use any tool to copy my data to my new device, it's a fresh install. When I browse Google Photos website, my photos & videos are not there.

What's going on here? I do NOT want my data to be uploaded on Google's server, and I want it to be removed from there. How can I achieve that?

Photos taken on your Android phone will still display in the Google Photos app even if they are not backed up to the service. Some Android phones use Google Photos as the default UI for pictures on your phone. To check this, open the Google Photos app and select a picture taken that you feel should not be backed up to Google Photos. along the top should be an icon of a cloud with an upward pointing arrow in it. This indicated the photos is NOT backed up to Google Photos.

Thank you for answering, but you missed the point: sync is disabled on my two devices (I have the cloud icon off, and when I click on my profile picture the app confirms that sync is off), and my photos do not appear on Google Photos website.

But when I configured my Gmail account on my brand new device, all my photos / videos have been restored to it. This means that despite sync being disabled (again, on both my old and my new device), my photos are still uploaded on Google servers. I do not want that.

To be more exact, thumbnails of photos taken by my old device have been restored to the new one. When I click on a thumbnail, the Google Photos app downloads the photo (or video) in full resolution.

If I uplode photo I took using my camera, it's doesn't turn in to GIF after you try to save it from the story, but photo you shot by using camera trough Instagram app, are all turn in to GIF after saving them from sotry, so mu suggestion is that you make a picture by not using camera trough the ig app and than you can edit it like you want using the app. It is really annoying af, I hate that every app is made to work perfectly on iPhone, even that Samsung is selling way more phones than Apple.
