First thing, do not call the 855 number listed in the previous user's comment. It is a known scam. There is no telephone support that is available for issues like this, and there have been multiple reports of scams, fraud, identity theft, etc. regarding these 855 numbers posted in forums. 

 

If you deleted your pictures in Google Photos -- and those pictures were previously backed up to the cloud -- you should be able to recover them from the trash bin. However, if those pictures were not already backed up then there is nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you get them back.

However, formatting the SD card is not going to delete the backed up photos on the cloud.

Go to Google Dashboard and expand the Photos tab then left click on the 3 dots and select Download data. If you wait a minute until 'All photos albums included' pops up then click on it and deselect all.

See screenshots online.

Then scroll down and select all the year albums Photos from 2020 etc, or any Albums you have created

 

You will now get a single copy of each photo, one json file per photo, and one filename-edited.jpg for each edited photo.

 

Unfortunately there is no easy way to use the json files without specialist software so they can be safely deleted.

1. Items deleted from your photos.google.com are stored in trash for 60 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

 

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

 

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

 

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

 

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.

The Sync operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.

In this way, if we delete something from the phone, that deletes the corresponding one on the cloud backup & vice versa.

However, it's not clear why do you want to delete the pictures from the cloud storage. You can archive those to remove from the normal chronological view.

In any case, the correct way would be to first move the photos on the phone to some non-backed up folder & then only delete the pics in the app.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Photos stored/backed up in"High Quality" in Google Photos doesn't take up Drive StorageQuota (Choose the upload size of your photos and videos). Know the difference:

High Quality:

• Unlimited free storage.
  
• Photos are compressed to save space. If a photo is larger than 16MP, it will be resized to 16MP.
  
• You can print good quality 16MP photos in sizes up to 24 inches x 16 inches.
  
• Videos higher than 1080p will be resized to high-definition 1080p. A video with 1080p or less will look close to the original.
  

Original Quality:

• Limited free storage that uses storage in your Google Account. Check your storage here. If you go over this limit, learn how to buy storage.
  
• All photos and videos are stored in the same resolution that you took them.
  
• Recommended for photos that have more than 16MP and videos with more than 1080p.
  
• Recommended for printing large banners.

But if you preference switches automatically, give the below steps a try:

• Check your internet connection (mobile data).
• Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
• Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
• Clear App data:
• Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
• Touch Apps.
• Select Google Photos in the list.
• Touch Clear data.
• Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:

Once we activate the group by faces feature, the app takes some time to scan the entire collection. Depending upon the quantum of the photos, that may take four to six hours after opting for that.

Please revert if nothing happens even after waiting for that much time.

Further, once done, the grouping will be visible through the search option under the heading "People". That will be above the row "Places" in the search pane.

I presume you are viewing the captured or downloaded pictures through Google photos only.

If so, there is no change in the display order.

In gallery view or the photos tab, the pictures appear in the chronological sequence of capture. If a download photo is old, that will appear in the same sequence of date & time.

However, if you view the pictures through the recent option in the search menu, then those will be arranged in the sequence of action.

I’m sorry to hear that you can’t find your photos. Please bear with me as this is quite a long post since there are a lot of steps to go through to have the best chance of finding your lost photos. 

 

First, please answer these questions:

• Do you recall seeing your photos at photos.google.com?
• Do you recall seeing your photos on a different device?
• Do you recall deleting photos from the Google Photo's app, or your phone's gallery app?
  • Did you use the Free Up Space feature to do so?

Unfortunately, if you never saw your photos on the website and/or a different device, there is a chance that the photos were never actually backed up to Google’s servers. I know this is tough to hear, but please try all the steps in this post as they might be hidden away somewhere you didn’t know of. 

 

Please navigate to these places on a computer and see if your photos appear:

• https://photos.google.com 
• https://photos.google.com/archive 
• https://photos.google.com/trash 
• https://photos.google.com/search (search for something obvious - dog, tree, person)
• https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ (sorts photos by date added)
• https://get.google.com/albumarchive (under Auto Backup > date of lost photo)
• https://drive.google.com (Google Photos tab and/or folder)
• Other photo storage services (iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox etc.)
• Any external drive you plugged your phone into at any point (USB drive, micro SD card, etc.)

Please also log in to all the links above with all other Google accounts of yours, as you might have accidentally been backing up to a different Google account. Have you found your photos? If so, where were they located?

 

Let's also make sure the photos are being backed up correctly:

1. Open Google Photos.
2. At the top, tap your Profile picture > Settings.
3. Tap Back up & sync.
4. Check your settings:
   • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.
   • Backup account: Make sure you back up your photos and videos to the right Google Account.
   • Back up device folders: If you want to see photos and videos from other apps or devices in your Google Photos library, make sure you turn on your available device folders.
   • When to back up: Make sure you know when Google Photos backs up your photos and videos. You can choose to back up items over mobile data.
5. Are your settings correctly set to back up photos?

If you have confirmed that your phone has been backing up your photos in the past (or waiting to be backed up), please follow these steps to double confirm they were backing up to the correct account:

1. At the top left, tap Menu .
2. Select Settings > Back up & sync.
3. Under "Backup account", look at the email address. Is your phone backing up to the right account?

If so, please take a photo with your phone now and see if it pops up on photos.google.com.

Nevertheless, can you provide some more details? Are you trying to see the photos on your phone through some gallery app?

Further, have you used the "Free up space" option in Google Photos? In that case, the app removes pics from the phone & then you wouldn't see anything through the gallery app.

However, you need providing some more information about your problem.

Welcome to Google Photo's Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

We can't post photos from one phone to another.

However, if both the phones are Android, you can transfer over Bluetooth or nearby sharing.

However, to use Google Photos to do that, please follow these steps.

First, switch on backup & sync on your old phone. Ensure to select every folder in which photos are present. 

When the app says backup complete, open the photos app on the new phone.

Then launch the photo in full screen & slid that up. Then tap on download. That will bring the picture on your new phone.

Repeat this for every photo.

Alternatively, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link takeout.google.com. Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments on your new phone.

That will bring everything from the old phone to the new one.

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to 200 most recent photos to the device. I say up to because after the Restore is finished there will be a maximum of 200 photos on the device including their use of the device's local storage space.

 

Unfortunately the local folder structure can not be restored.

 

There is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone and there are no tools available to restore more unless one by one by selecting the 3 dot option to Download while viewing photos.

I'm hoping someone can help me.  

I've been working on creating a photobook and have tried to send the album I created on Google Photos for the past few weeks with my collaborator.  They keep telling me they don't have it, and the invite isn't going to their Spam folder.  All addresses are typed correctly, all permissions are granted.  I've tried it on multiple occasions with multiple devices running on multiple platforms with the same result.  Clearly, something is wrong and I was wondering what else I can do?
