Trump slams bombshell report that claimed he told Cohen to LIE to Congress

The office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller has called the bombshell BuzzFeed report claiming President Donald Trump told his former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress false, and Trump has also fired back.

'Remember it was Buzzfeed that released the totally discredited "Dossier," paid for by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the Democrats (as opposition research), on which the entire Russian probe is based!' he posted late Friday night.

'A very sad day for journalism, but a great day for our Country!'. He then followed that up by tweeting: 'Fake News is truly the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!'.

The President's response comes after the special counsel's office issued a rare public statement disputing the accuracy of the news report saying that Trump told his personal attorney Cohen to lie to Congress.

The special counsel's spokesman Peter Carr says: 'BuzzFeed's description of specific statements to the Special Counsel's Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's Congressional testimony are not accurate'.

Meanwhile Ben Smith, editor-in-chief at BuzzFeed, tweeted: 'In response to the statement tonight from the Special Counsel's spokesman: We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he's disputing.

Making his way around to CNN's Anderson Cooper, Smith further requested clarification from the special counsel's office and defended his reporters, Jason Leopold and Anthony Cormier.

'We're really confident in these specific sources and in the stories these reporters told,' Smith said after referencing two unidentified law enforcement officials from the original story that reported Trump directed Cohen to lie to Congress about the Moscow real estate project.

Smith also called into MSNBC to speak with Chris Hayes saying 'the special counsel issued this very vague statement, we are eager to know what he's talking about'. The statement by Robert Mueller's office on Friday night doesn't cite any specific errors.

Trump had earlier Friday evening spent several hours retweeting several supporters. Shortly after the statement from Mueller's office was released Trump retweeted: 'Sadly so many will never get the memo that it was fake!'.

Buzzfeed's bombshell report claimed the president directed Cohen to lie in his testimony to Congress about a Trump Organization tower deal in Moscow that continued through the summer of 2016.

The president also retweeted the Newsmax host John Cardillo saying: 'I told you all that the BuzzFeed story was nonsense. Then he also drew attention to podcaster Dan Bongino's commentary, 'We called it. FAKE NEWS! "More Buzzfeed B.S."'.

He goes on to retweet Sebastian Gorka posting a photo of Trump's inauguration, and podcaster Bongino asserting Trump's job approval among Latinos is up during the government shutdown.

Earlier, New Yorker reporter Ronan Farrow had tweeted his own misgivings about the BuzzFeed story, writing: 'I can't speak to Buzzfeed's sourcing, but, for what it's worth, I declined to run with parts of the narrative they conveyed based on a source central to the story repeatedly disputing the idea that Trump directly issued orders of that kind.

CNN also written previously that the former Los Angeles Times, Dow Jones, and Vice News reporter Leopold had a 'checkered past' when it came to accuracy of his reports during the George W. Bush administration, prior to the Mueller office statement.

Leopold's investigative partner, Anthony Cormier, however, was a member of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team in 2016 at the Tampa Bay Times prior to joining BuzzFeed. He collaborated on an investigative series into the neglected mental health system in Florida.

He joined BuzzFeed's investigative unit shortly afterwards. The president's son, Donald Trump Jr.

, meanwhile, has been gleefully firing off tweets about the news outlet retweeting the Mueller office rebuttal with nothing but a series of 'crying laughing' emojis, and retweeting another post that had made the statement that either Trump is finished or BuzzFeed is with the comment 'You were saying??'.

Since the statement put out by Mueller's office, the President's eldest son Donald Trump Jr has been tweeting and retweeting rapidly taking shots at BuzzFeed and other media outlets reporting around the story including The Daily Beast and CNN.

Buzzfeed's report, if true, would constitute subornation of perjury – a felony crime. Obstruction of justice was the first order of impeachment against President Richard Nixon.

Trump blasted his former lawyer and fixer Cohen on Friday as a liar who was 'trying to reduce his jail time' when he reportedly told Mueller that a scheme to build a Trump Tower project in Moscow extended through the 2016 Republican National Convention and into the months before Trump became president-elect.

Earlier Friday Cohen returned to his Manhattan apartment Friday after getting medical treatment – with his arm appearing to be in a sling. Cohen advisor Lanny Davis said Cohen had gone into the hospital for pre-scheduled shoulder surgery.

Cohen could be seen with his left arm covered, hanging in a sling. He was holding a full-size white pillow against his body. His right hand had a small bandage of the kind used to cover a small wound by an IV.

He also wore a red identification bracelet of the kind distributed by hospitals.

Location chosen for 2nd N. Korea-U.S. summit: Trump - Duration: 2:06.

The location for the second summit between the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. seems

to have been chosen... according to U.S. President Donald Trump... but he says he'll keep the

information close to his chest for now.

President Trump did say, however, that the two sides have made a lot of progress concerning

North Korea's denuclearization... with senior officials from both sides continuing talks

to hammer out the details of the upcoming summit.

Kan Hyeong-woo reports.

North Korea and the United States have picked a country for their second summit,... which

will take place near the end of February.

But President Trump says the location will be announced later.

It's been widely speculated that the venue will be in Vietnam.

Earlier this month, CNN cited a source familiar with the planning process who said that a

White House scouting team has visited Bangkok, Hawaii... and the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.

Speaking to reporters in Washington on Saturday, local time, Trump said he had an incredible

meeting on Friday with North Korea's top negotiator Kim Yong-chol... and that both Kim Jong-un

and Trump himself are very much looking forward to their next summit.

"We've made a lot of progress that has not been reported by the media but we have made

a lot of progress as far as denuclearization is concerned.

We're talking about a lot of different things but we've made tremendous progress that has

not been reported unfortunately but it will be.

Things are going very well with North Korea."

The focus is now on the follow-up negotitations,... which have kicked off in Sweden.

North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and U.S. Special Representative for North

Korea Stephen Biegun met on Saturday local time in Stockholm.

They are expected to discuss the logistics of the next summit.

South Korea's nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon has also joined them in the Swedish capital for

three-way talks,... which are likely to focus on setting a summit agenda.

The three sides will continue their discussions until Tuesday.

Kim and Trump to meet for a second summit near end of Feb. - Duration: 2:30.

Our top story this evening.

A second summit between North Korea and the United States will take place in February.

Following negotiations between Pyeongyang and Washington, the White House officially

announced on Friday... that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. president Donald Trump

will meet for the second time late next month.

The location however, has yet to be announced.

Park Hee-jun reports.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump,... will meet "near the end of

February," according to the White House on Friday.

But the venue has not been announced,... and is set to be revealed later.

The news came after a 90-minute meeting between the North's top negotiator Kim Yong-chol and

President Trump at the White House.

He earlier met Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. Special Representative for North

Korea, Stephen Biegun.

They discussed efforts to implement the promises made during the two countries' first bilateral

summit in Singapore.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders described the meeting as "productive," but

added that sanctions will remain in place until North Korea's FFVD.

"The United States is going to continue to keep pressure and sanctions on North Korea

until we see fully and verifiable denuclearization.

We've had very good steps in good faith from the North Koreans in releasing the hostages

and other moves and so we're going to continue those conversations.

The President looks forward to next his next meeting."

The spotlight is now on the follow-up negotiations.

North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and Stephen Biegun are expected to meet this

weekend in Stockholm,... for the first time since Biegun took his post in August.

With Pyeongyang and Washington having made the summit official,... the logistics for

the meeting is likely to be sorted out by Choe and Biegun.

According to Seoul's foreign ministry,...

South Korea's nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon is also in the Swedish capital.

Two-way or three-way discussions could get underway,... which are likely to focus on

the agendas for the upcoming summit.

The latest announcement breaks the months-long deadlock between North Korea and the United

States.

But there's an unfamiliar silence-- no contact with the press nor tweets by Trump.

He's been quiet about the letters he received from Kim,... and regarding any recent developments

concerning North Korea.

The extra discretion could mean there's still a long way ahead... before the two sides can

find a compromise on the North's denuclearization.

It's also being viewed as a power play to maintain Washington's upperhand in the February

summit.

Trump teases 'major announcement' on the shutdown and border security in Saturday speech - Duration: 9:13.

He says he will be making a big reveal about the government shutdown and border security at 3pm EDT at the White House

'I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P

M.,live from the @WhiteHouse,' he said in a Friday evening tweet. His spokeswoman said she didn't want to get in front of his remarks as she encountered reporters shortly after

Trump could be declaring a national emergency, though, so he can use military resources to build a physical barrier on the border

He has resisted the action that will be aggressively challenged in court. The president has also said he will summon all of the powers of the executive branch to to build his border wall if Democrats will not give him the funds he's demanding, however

They have been in a stand-off over border security for 28 days and remain at an impasse

Congress is in recess until Tuesday of next week — Monday is a federal holiday — and many lawmakers are not expected to return until the following week unless there are votes

The president took action on Thursday to keep House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, at least, in town, so they could continue to negotiate, despite the fact that they have not met since he abruptly ended talks last week

Trump recalled her congressional delegation's military escort to Afghanistan after they had already loaded a bus that was taking them to Joint Base Andrews

She accused him Friday of endangering lawmakers with the public declaration that heightened the security risk for members who planned to make the trip commercially

The trip to Afghanistan, as with most warzone visits, had been a secret. In a Thursday tweet before he informed her the trip had been canceled, he claimed the Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was 'groveling,' but the House leader was refusing appeals to end to the government shutdown, because she's beholden to the radical left

He said later in a national security speech that Pelosi will not let lawmakers work with him to come to a border security solution

'The party has been hijacked by the open borders fringe within the party, the radical left, becoming the radical Democrats,' he said

'Hopefully Democrat lawmakers will step forward to do what is right for our country, and what's right for our country is border security at the strongest level

' He added: 'Stop human hijacking, stop drugs, stop gangs, stop criminals. That's what we're gonna do

That was my pledge, and that's what we're going to do.' Until then, the federal government will remain shutdown because congressional Democrats refuse to approve border security, he said

'We're going to have border security. It's going to be tight. It's going to be strong

We're going to let people into our country gladly, but they're going to come in legally,' he contended

The president brought up the situation at the southern border during a speech on his Missile Defense Review at the Pentagon

'I would like to briefly address another matter of critical national security, the humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border,' he said leading into his daily pitch for a border wall

'Without a strong border, America's defenseless, vulnerable and unprotected.' He thanked the military for 'helping us out during the big caravan period' as he made reference to another group of Central American migrants that has reportedly formed

'Thousands and thousands of people. We don't know where they're from, who they are, nothing,' he asserted

'We need strong borders. We need strong barriers and walls.Nothing else is going to work

Everyone knows it.Everybody's saying it now.Just a question of time.' This week the No

2 Democrat in the House, Steny Hoyer, admitted that walls 'obviously' work sometimes and that the barrier is not 'immoral' on its face

Rep.Katie Hill, a California Democrat, has also said a physical barrier like Trump wants could be effective

'While many Democrats in the House and the Senate would like to make a deal, Speaker Pelosi will not let them negotiate,' Trump said of the status of the shutdown

'The part has been hijacked by the open borders fringe.' Trump said earlier in a tweet that had no apparent connection to any news story, but appeared to be about immigration: 'The Left has become totally unhinged

They no longer care what is Right for our Countrty!' The president misspelled the word 'country' in the message

He did not send out a corrected version of the tweet. He went on to bash Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, in a tweet for 'groveling' for another meeting at the White House

Trump walked out of their last one and hasn't spoke to the party leader since.Schumer offered to come back to the table as he spoke to reporters on Tuesday, if Trump will have him

'I'll meet with him anytime he wants. As you know, the last I spoke with him was when he walked out, threw a temper tantrum and walked out, so we haven't heard from him since then

' Schumer's office did not have a comment on the president's tweet. The senator has not commented, either, on the CoDel cancellations

The argument over military-supported trips is part of a broader fight the president is waging right now against Democrats who will not give him the $5

7billion he's demanding for his border wall.He has overseen a partial government shutdown for nearly a month over their refusal to approve the funds

Russian model alleging having proof of support for Trump arrives in court - Duration: 10:41.

Amodel who claims to have evidence of a back-channel between the Kremlin and US President Donald Trump appeared in Court for the first time in Russia

Anastasia Vashukevich, 21, who also works as a sex coach, appeared calm as she was led in Nagatinsky District Court of Moscow in handcuffs by officers dressed in a black puffer jacket and a grey hooded top

She was detained at a Moscow airport on charges of prostitution after being deported from Thailand

A video emerged earlier this week showing how the Belarusian model was bundled into a wheelchair by an all-male team of suspected FSB agents as she arrived in Russia

She resists the officers as they try to bundle her into a wheelchair.'I don't want to go anywhere,' she insists

After failing to get her into the chair, one officer grabbed her legs and another clutched her around the shoulders, before she was carried towards a lift

Of those detaining her she said in a text message: 'They speak very rudely!' She stated: 'They say we must go with them for a couple of days somewhere!' Russian news agencies said that four of the seven people deported from Thailand who arrived in Moscow on Thursday were detained, including Vashukevich and Alexander Kirillov, her mentor in the sex training business

They may face up to six years in prison if convicted on charges of inducement to prostitution

In the early stages of their detention in Thailand, the sex training group sent a note to the US Embassy via an intermediary seeking help and political asylum

Vashukevich indicated she would turn over the recordings she claimed to have if the US could help secure her release but she later withdrew the offer, suggesting that she and Mr Deripaska had reached an agreement

Vashukevich, who has been in a Thai prison since February last year, was given a suspended sentence on Tuesday and ordered to be deported

The model, also known on social media as Nastya Rybka, earlier claimed to have recordings of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska talking about interference in the 2016 US election, but never released them

Vashukevich, also known as Nastya Rybka, has long claimed to have explosive audio recordings of a Russian oligarch allegedly proving a secret back channel link between Vladimir Putin's top henchmen and the Trump election campaign

Vashukevich and 'seduction guru' Alexander Kirillov, 39, had been imprisoned in Thailand last year for running a sex workshop for Russian tourists in Pattaya

They claimed the Kremlin was behind their detention in Thailand to gag their claims about alleged Russian dealings with top Donald Trump associates

Vashukevich claims she has inside information including some 16 hours of audio tapes from when she was mistress to Putin-friendly billionaire Oleg Deripaska who has been portrayed as a go-between

The model has claimed to be 'the only witness and the missing link in the connection between Russia and the US elections'

Videos emerged of her on a luxury yacht owned by metals tycoon Deripaska along with Russian deputy premier Sergei Prikhodko, a close Putin lieutenant, somewhere off the Norwegian coast in 2016

Deripaska's associates include Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign adviser, who had 'offered private briefings' to the Russian mogul

Vashukevich claims to have witnessed a number meetings in 2016 and 2017 between Deripaska and at least three unnamed Americans

After being detained in Thailand she said: 'They are trying to shut us up, and for a very long time

'I am ready to give you those missing details, and confirm them with audio and video regarding connections between our respected MPs and Manafort and Trump and all that hype around the American elections

I know a real lot.' Vashukevich was en route from Bangkok to Minsk, the Belarus capital, when she was detained with others at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow

Her friend Gregory Kogan said Russian and Belarusian diplomats in Thailand had pledged the group would be safe if they left for Russia or flew via Moscow

Interfax news agency reported Vashukevich and her associates face charges of inducement into prostitution

They face up to six years in prison if convicted.Vashukevich last year publicly asked the United States to help free her from a Thai detention centre in exchange for information on alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia

Kirillov's wife Kristina Sheremetyeva told Russian state media RIA-Novosti that he, Vashukevich and two others - Andrei Zhezhko and Maria Zharkova - had been detained

'For how long and for what reason, we don't know,' she said. She said there were no outstanding criminal investigations against them in Russia, yet their passports had been removed

'Now they start charging them with something… it would mean only one thing – violent faking of a crime

No other words for it, it is completely illegal'.Sheremetyeva also claimed that the FBI had grilled Vashukevich and Kirillov - also known as Alex Lesley - while she was in Thailand but she had not given away any information

'FBI agents visited them.To say the least, they posed as such.Alex wrote about that, and Nastya wrote about that

This really took place, when they were being held in an immigration prison in Bangkok,' she said

She said that the FBI agents demanded that Vashukevich and Kirillov share the passwords of their mobile phones and their phone data content

'For this information they promised to release them and to help somehow. But (they) did not give anyone anything, and the case has been dragged out for ten months

' Vashukevich last year told CNN from her Thai detention centre that she feared for her life because of her inside knowledge

'They can kill me here or in Russia,' she said.Airport police refused to comment on the incident

Vashukevich said she made the alleged audio tapes including details of sexual shenanigans during her time on board Deripaska's yacht

These were sent direct to Kirillov.Later the pair were among ten 'sex instructors' raided by police while running a late night course for Russian tourists at a luxury hotel

Attendees were 'given certificates in sexual skills after completing the training course', reported the Bangkok Post

Some 43 male and female tourists taking part in the session were interrogated and released without charge, according to reports

U.S. CIT challneges Trump's anti-dumping measures on imported steel, alumnum - Duration: 0:45.

There's a possiblity that the U.S. tariffs on Korean steel and aluminum announced by

the Trump administration last March, for national security reasons,... will be lowered.

A preliminary decision by the U.S. Court of International Trade released last week...

challenged the 76-percent anti-dumping duties imposed by the commerce department... on oil

country tubular goods from Korea.

Those duties, on top of an import quota, were expected to heavily restrain Korean steel

pipe exports to the U.S.

The court said the commerce department's claim that a so-called "particular market situation"

existed with respect to Korean steel -- that its price was distorted -- was not justified.

Trump Touts Border Wall In San Antonio, Which Has No Wall And Isn't On The Border - News Today - Duration: 2:27.

President Donald Trump on Saturday boasted to reporters about how well San Antonio's border wall is working. But the Texas city is 150 miles from the Mexican border and has no wall.

"Everybody knows that walls work. You look at different places, they put up a wall, no problem," Trump said outside the White House. "You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places, they go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately, immediately."

The president may have intended to refer to El Paso, a Texas border city he referenced last week in an almost identical anecdote ― though he is wrong that the wall there had any effect on its crime rate.

Trump discussed the nonexistent wall in San Antonio before he offered three years' protection for the so-called Dreamers — immigrants who came to the U.S. as children — in exchange for Democratic support for $5.7 billion for his border wall. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) quickly ripped the deal as a "non-starter."

Part of San Antonio is in the district represented by Texas GOP Rep. Will Hurd, who opposes Trump's wall as expensive, ineffective and damaging to private property and the environment. His district includes 820 miles of the border. In an interview this week with Rolling Stone, he called Trump's characterization of a "crisis" at the border a "myth."

All nine representatives who represent border areas in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California oppose the wall, but Hurd is the only Republican. Only two senators in all of those states — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) — support the wall.

Twitter had a few comments about Trump's goof. Many were quick to point out the 1836 Battle of the Alamo, in which the local mission's wall failed to protect Texans from Mexican troops.

Star Wars returns! Trump says US will develop space based missile defense - Duration: 10:05.

President Donald Trump, unveiled the military's long-delayed Missile Defense Review (MDR),

the first overhaul of U.S. missile defense policy since 2010.

Moving to protect the U.S. from advanced missile threats from China and Russia.

President Donald Trump on 17th January, laid out plans for a new array of space-based sensors,

and other high-tech systems designed to more quickly detect and defeat attacks.

Trump, in a speech at the Pentagon, declared that space is the new warfighting domain.

And he vowed, that the U.S. will develop an unrivaled missile defence system to protect

against advanced hypersonic, and cruise missile threats from competitors and adversaries.

"Our goal is simple: to ensure that we can detect and destroy any missile launched against

the United States — anywhere, anytime, anyplace," Trump said.

"In a time of rapidly evolving threats, we must be certain that our defensive capabilities

are unrivaled and unmatched anywhere in the world."

"It is not enough to keep pace with our adversaries, we must outpace them at every

turn," he said.

Trump did not mention Russia, China or North Korea in his roughly 20-minute speech.

But the Pentagon's new strategy makes clear, that its plan for a more aggressive space-based

missile defence system is aimed at protecting against existing threats from North Korea

and Iran, and countering advanced weapon systems being developed by Russia and China.

The new review is the first since 2010, and it concludes that to adequately protect America,

the Pentagon must expand defence technologies in space, and use those systems to more quickly

detect, track and ultimately defeat incoming missiles.

Acting Defence Secretary Pat Shanahan, who also spoke, said the new hypersonic missiles

being developed by nations, such as Russia and China, are harder to see, harder to track

and harder to defeat.

To address that, the U.S. is looking at putting a layer of sensors in space, to more quickly

detect enemy missiles, when they are launched.

That means, the technologies could help detect an enemy missile launch sooner and shoot it

down in space, or possibly even as the missile is launching.

The U.S. sees space as a critical area for advanced, next-generation capabilities to

stay ahead of the threats.

The administration also plans to study the idea of basing interceptors in space, so the

U.S. can strike incoming enemy missiles, during the first minutes of flight when the booster

engines are still burning.

With an eye on defense, in this video Engineering today will discuss about New Space-based Missile

Defense, which U.S. is going to develop.

Why U.S. think Space is new arena for war?

Let's get started.

Russia and China have made clear their efforts to develop the high-tech programs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled new strategic weapons, he claims can't be

intercepted.

One is a hypersonic glide vehicle, which could fly 20 times faster than the speed of sound,

and make sharp manoeuvres to avoid being detected by missile defence systems.

Missile defence officials on 17th January, declined to provide any budget estimates or

timelines for the programs.

Michael Griffin, the defence undersecretary for research and engineering, told Pentagon

reporters that developing a new layered network of sensors in space, is key to being able

to detect a fast-moving hypersonic missile in its early, more vulnerable stages.

The Pentagon, he said, will study the issue to determine how many would be needed, and

at what orbit they would fly.

He said the program is affordable, and some funding for that would be in the budget that

will be proposed for 2020.

The system could be operational in the late 2020s.

Officials said the study on space-based interceptors could begin in the coming months.

But, recognizing the potential concerns surrounding any perceived weaponization of space, officials

emphasized that no testing is mandated, and no final decisions have been made.

Democratic Sen. Edward Markey of Massachusetts, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee,

immediately raised concerns, calling the plan, a bad Star Wars sequel.

"While it is true that the missile threat environment America now faces is different,

the answer is not to build a wall in space," Markey said.

Adding that Trump's "misguided rush to weaponize space would be as ineffective, costly, and

dangerous as it was more than three decades ago, when it was soundly rejected."

Any expansion of the scope and cost of missile defences would compete with other defence

priorities, including the billions of extra dollars the Trump administration has committed

to spending on a new generation of nuclear weapons.

An expansion also would have important implications for American diplomacy, given long-standing

Russian hostility to even the most rudimentary U.S. missile defences, and China's worry that

longer-range U.S. missile defences in Asia, could undermine Chinese national security.

While the U.S. continues to pursue peace with North Korea, Pyongyang has made threats of

nuclear missile attacks against the U.S., and its allies in the past and has worked

to improve its ballistic missile technology.

It is still considered a serious threat to America.

Iran, meanwhile, has continued to develop more sophisticated ballistic missiles, increasing

their numbers and their capabilities.

In addition to a space focus, the Missile Defense Review breaks down the threat into

two camps: protecting the U.S. homeland, and defending U.S. forces abroad from any missile

source.

Concerning the homeland, the U.S. had already announced plans to add 20 new ground-based

interceptors, increasing the number positioned at Fort Greely, Alaska, from 44 to 64, by

2023.

"We are committed to establishing a missile defense program that can shield every city

in the United States, and we will never negotiate away our right to do this."

Trump said on this day.

Trump's rollout of the Missile Defense Review, comes amid reports of possible movement toward

another meeting, between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Three North Korean officials are expected to meet with White House officials in Washington

this week, to discuss a potential second summit between the two leaders.

The increased defenses to the homeland are scaled with respect to projected threats,

from rogue states such as North Korea and Iran, not the much more robust threat from

China and Russia.

The United States will continue to rely on nuclear deterrence, the assurance that an

attack on the U.S. homeland from a major power would insure mutual annihilation, to protect

against large attacks from Russia or China.

Finally, to protect against adversary advances abroad, the Missile Defense Review calls for

"expanding and modernizing" regional missile defenses.

The review says, North Korea is fielding regional missiles capable of threatening allies and

deployed forces, while Iran has a ballistic missile force, that could strike throughout

the Middle East and southeast Europe.

Speaking ahead of the president, Acting Secretary of Defense, Pat Shanahan said, North Korean

and Iranian missiles "remain a significant concern" across the globe.

"To our competitors, we see what you are doing, and we are taking action."

he said.

The obvious fear in all of this is that it may start a whole new arms race.

But this arms race has been ongoing for decades with China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran,

all attempting to develop new weaponry, while the United States simply stayed in place.

During the Obama years, America simply stopped racing.

The good news is that, the systems that the president and the Pentagon are proposing seem

to be defensive in nature.

Hopefully, this signals an end to the nation-building policies of past administrations of both political

parties.

President Trump also took the opportunity to get in a plug for his proposed southern

border wall, during his speech.

"This morning I also would like to briefly address another matter of critical national

security — the humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border.

Without a strong border America's defenseless, vulnerable and unprotected," the president

said.

"We need strong borders, We need strong barriers and walls."

WORLD WAR 3: Trump's defence plan to spark 'ARMS RACE' warn China and Russia - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 3:24.

WORLD WAR 3: Trump's defence plan to spark 'ARMS RACE' warn China and Russia

CHINESE and Russian officials are warning of an arms race being sparked by Donald Trump's

new provocative missile defence plan.

The US President introduced the 2019 Missile Defence Review on Thursday which aims to instate

a global missile system that could "detect and destroy any missile launched against the

United States anywhere, anytime."

US military competitors Russia and China have hit back accusing the US of provoking further

tensions between the global superpowers.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said: "The American report is full of outdated 'Cold

War' and 'zero-sum game' concepts.

"The document exaggerates the geopolitical confrontation and rivalry of powers, and speaks

unreasonably of a threat from China."

He warned that the review could lead to an arms race as well as irreversibly damaging

peace and security in the region.

Russia voiced similar concerns towards the US missile defence plan.

The Russian foreign ministry warned: "The strategy actually gives the green light to

the prospect of basing missile strike capabilities in space."

The statement said: "The implementation of these ideas will inevitably lead to the

beginning of an arms race in space, which will have the most negative consequences for

international security and stability."

They later compared the review to former President Ronald Reagan's doomed, Cold War-era "Star

Wars" defence plan.

First Deputy Head of the Defence Committee, Andrei Krasnov said: "They are just trying

to draw us into an arms race.

"We have the most modern weapons and military equipment.

"We should respond to new military initiatives by the US and its NATO allies with intensive

exercises.

"We have everything else, we should not be drawn into the arms race."

Trump's proposals included space-based sensors and advanced interceptors that would block

out any hypersonic missile technology being developed by Russia and China.

But as China and Russia have pointed out, the US has a higher defence budget than both

countries.

The President's latest plan is to make the US military "more powerful than ever before"

with a $750 billion budget.

While Trump and Vice President Mike Pence never mentioned China or Russia as leading

rivals against the US, both countries were heavily featured in the report.

The review read: "Russia and China are developing advanced cruise missiles and hypersonic missile

capabilities that can travel at exceptional speeds with unpredictable flight paths that

challenge existing defensive systems.

"These are challenging realities of the emerging missile threat environment that US missile

defence policy, strategy, and capabilities must address."

Gov. Polis: Trump Can't Win Colorado in 2020 - Duration: 4:57.

SOLEDAD: I'M SOLEDAD O'BRIEN.

WELCOME TO "MATTER OF FACT." THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS IN

NOVEMBER DIDN'T JUST USHER IN THE MOST DIVERSE CONGRESS IN HISTORY BUT ALSO CHANGED THE ELECTORAL MAP AHEAD OF THE NEXT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

STATES THAT WERE ONCE SOLIDLY REPUBLICAN, LIKE GEORGIA AND ARIZONA, COULD BE IN PLAY FOR THE DEMOCRATS.

WHILE TRADITIONAL SWING STATES LIKE OHIO AND IOWA HAVE MOVED FROM PURPLE TO RED.

ANOTHER STATE THAT HAS SEEN A POLITICAL SHIFT IS COLORADO, WHERE REPUBLICANS SUFFERED THEIR BIGGEST DEFEAT IN MODERN STATE HISTORY.

DEMOCRATS NOW CONTROL BOTH THE STATE HOUSE AND SENATE, AND MOST MAJOR STATE OFFICES, INCLUDING GOVERNOR, ATTORNEY GENERAL, AND SECRETARY OF STATE.

THE G.O.P.'S WIDESPREAD DEFEAT IN COLORADO LED CONSERVATIVE COLUMNIST GEORGE WILL TO WARN IT'S A GLIMPSE OF THE NATION'S FUTURE.

COLORADO'S NEWLY ELECTED GOVERNOR, DEMOCRAT JARED POLIS, JOINS US FROM DENVER.

SO NICE SO SEE YOU, GOVERNMENT THANKS FOR TALKING WITH ME.

GOVERNOR POLIS: A PLEASURE TO BE WITH YOU, SOLEDAD.

SO LET'S TALK FIRST ABOUT COLORADO BEING PART OF THE NATIONAL PICTURE.

DEMOCRATS NOW OUTNUMBER REPUBLICANS.

THAT'S LIKE THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS THAT THAT'S HAPPENED, AND IT'S A HUGE SWING FOR A PLACE THAT REALLY USED TO BE A VERY RELIABLE REPUBLICAN SO WHAT'S HAPPENED THAT HAS

REALLY SHIFTED COLORADO?

GOV. POLIS: WELL, COLORADO IS A REAL SWING STATE.

YOU HAVE NEARLY EVEN NUMBERS OF REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THIS LAST ELECTION IS THE VOTERS GAVE THE DEMOCRATS A CHANCE TO GOVERN BUT THAT'S ONLY AS GOOD AS WE PRODUCE FOR THEM.

SO IT'S ONLY AS GOOD AS GIVING US A CHANCE.

SOLEDAD: WHAT DOES IT MEAN THEN FOR 2020 IF THEY'RE JUST GIVING YOU A CHANCE.

THAT MAYBE IT MEANS NOTHING?

GOV. POLIS: WELL, I THINK IT MEANS IF THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE IS DONALD TRUMP, HE'LL HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE WINNING OVER THE SWING VOTERS OF COLORADO WITH HIS DIVISIVE BRAND

OF RHETORIC AND THE WAY HE HAS A SLASH AND BURN POLITICS AND POOR MANAGEMENT STYLE.

COLORADO VOTERS ARE SOPHISTICATED.

THEY'RE EDUCATED, THEY'RE SAVVY, AND THEY DON'T FALL FOR THE TRICKS AND PROPAGANDA OF SOLEDAD: WHEN GEORGE WILL, WHO I JUST QUOTED A MOMENT AGO, I WAS -- WAS TALKING ABOUT COLORADO,

HE WAS REFERRING TO SORT OF THE CHANGES WITHIN THE STATE AND THE VOTING POPULACE THAT THE GROWING NUMBER OF LATINO VOTERS, THE EDUCATION LEVELS OF COLORADO VOTERS ARE THOSE ALSO THINGS

THAT YOU THINK BENEFIT THE DEMOCRATS?

GOV. POLIS: ABSOLUTELY.

AGAIN, WE HAVE A HIGHLY EDUCATED ELECTORATE, WE HAVE A GROWING PERCENTAGE OF LATINO ELECTORATE.

AND AGAIN, IT'S A STATE THAT HAS RELATIVELY EVEN NUMBERS OF DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS, ALMOST IDENTICAL.

SO IT'S ALWAYS THOSE UNAFFILIATED VOTERS WHICH ARE THE SINGLE BIGGEST GROUP IN OUR STATE.

THERE'S MORE OF THEM THAN THERE ARE DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS THAT REALLY GET TO DECIDE WHICH WAY WE GO AND IN THIS LAST ELECTION IN 2018, THEY DECIDED TO GIVE DEMOCRATS A

CHANCE.

IT'S REALLY UP TO THE DEMOCRATS TO PRODUCE, TO IMPROVE OUR QUALITY OF LIFE.

AND WE'LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO AND MAKE THE CASE THAT WE DESERVE ANOTHER CHANCES IN 2020.

SOLEDAD: I'VE ROAD A LOT ABOUT WHEN YOU WERE FIRST ELECTED, HOW YOU WERE AN OPENLY GAY GOVERNOR.

AND I WAS JUST WONDERING.

YOU MEAN, JIM MCGREEVEY, OF COURSE, IN NEW JERSEY WAS AS WELL, SORT OF SERVED OUT THE REST OF HIS TERM OPENLY GAY.

IS THIS A MILESTONE NOW, IS IT JUST A TALKING POINT IN THE PRESS?

HOW DO YOU VIEW IT?

GOV. POLIS: WELL, IT REALLY IS NOT ON THE MINDS OF MOST COLORADANS.

YOU KNOW, AGAIN, COLORADANS REALLY VALUE WHAT YOU DO AND YOUR CHARACTER.

IT HONESTLY HAS COME UP A LOT MORE IN THE NATIONAL MEDIA THAN IT HAS HERE IN OUR STATE.

PLANS TO SAVE PEOPLE MONEY ON HEALTH CARE.

OUR TRANSITION PLAN TO RENEWABLE ENERGY, WHICH WE HAVE A GOAL OF 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY BY 2040.

WE HAVE A PLAN TO REDUCE TAX LOOPHOLES AND THEN USE THAT MONEY TO REDUCE THE INCOME TAX RATE FOR ALL COLORADO RESIDENTS AND SMALL BUSINESSES.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF WORK TO DO.

AND THAT'S REALLY BEEN THE FOCUS OF ALL OF THE LOCAL DISCUSSIONS.

SOLEDAD: TALK TO ME ABOUT 2020.

DEMOCRATS HAVE NOW STARTED THROWING THEIR HAT INTO THE RING AND GETTING SOME PUBLICITY FOR IT.

WHO DO YOU THINK -- WHO DO YOU LIKE?

WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD STEP IN AND WHO SHOULD NOT GOVERNOR POLIS: YOU KNOW, SOLEDAD, IT'S SUCH A BIG LIST.

YOU KNOW, I FOCUS ON OUR TO-DO LIST AND GETTING THINGS DONE IN COLORADO.

SOLEDAD: OH, THAT'S SUCH A POLITICAL DODGE.

FOR 28 MINUTES AND YOU'RE YOU'VE BEEN GOVERNOR HERE.

HOW ARE YOU DOING THE GOVERNOR DODGE?

COME ON, YOU MUST HAVE, OF ALL THE DEMOCRATS YOU KNOW WHO ARE GOING TO JUMP IN, AND THAT'S -- IT'S GOING TO BE A LIST OF ABOUT 20.

THERE IS ONLY GOING TO BE A HANDFUL WHO COULD BEAT DONALD TRUMP.

IN 2020.

WHO DO YOU THINK THE TOP FOUR ARE?

GOVERNOR POLIS: YOU KNOW, WHAT I EXPECT THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY VOTERS WILL LOOK FOR.

SERMON WHAT I WOULD LOOK FOR IS WHO'S GOING TO BE THE BEST CANDIDATE TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY.

BUT REALLY, ELECTABILITY IS GOING TO BE FIRST AND FOREMO

Jared Kushner's Stupidity Is Sabotaging The Trump Administration From The Inside - Duration: 3:56.

Former New Jersey governor and also former Donald Trump champ, a transition team chairman,

Chris Christie has a new book coming out January 29th called let me finish.

And The Guardian, uh, obtained a copy of this book.

And in the book, Chris Christie has a lot of really nasty things to say about jared

Kushner, but when you distill it all down, everything that he's saying about Kushner

or I won't get into specifics in a moment, he essentially paints the picture of somebody

who is so incompetent and so stupid that he is somehow managing to sabotage the entire

Trump administration from the inside.

And here's what I mean.

According to Christie, what he has written in this book, it was Kushner who suggested

that Trump fire Comey and fire a flynn during the campaign.

Because if he did that, it would force people to stop asking questions about Russia, you

know, Fire Flynn.

And that kind of gets people thinking that, oh, there wasn't a connection at all.

And then fire Comey and that's going to kill your investigation.

Uh, that is what Chris Christie alleges.

Jared Kushner told the president, the president said, Ed's good idea, Jair, let's do that.

Obviously didn't work out so well for the president in fact made things a hell of a

lot worse because jared Kushner urging the president to fire James Comey is pretty much

one of the biggest obstruction of justice charges that Robert Mueller is actually looking

into.

So good job there.

Jared, your stupidity may have gotten your father in law, uh, committing an impeachable

offense.

Not that he hasn't already committed some that we do know about, but yeah, that was

[inaudible] doing Kushner also is the one who got Steve Bannon to fire Chris Christie

so that Chris Christie could not end up taking a spot in the administration where he obviously

would have overruled and pretty much tried to force out.

And Jared Kushner.

Um, but here's the thing.

According to Chris Christie, jared Kushner, so as an ax to grind against Christy because

Christie is the guy back when he was a US attorney who actually put Kushner's father

in jail for tax evasion, illegal campaign donations and witness tampering.

Although Christie was allowed to go light on him, so in spite of those three felonies,

dude only serve two years in prison, a normal human being would have spent probably 10 to

20 years in prison, but Kushner's daddy only got two years for being a complete liar, fraud

and a horrible human being.

So jared still mad about that.

You put daddy in jail, you put my financial future in jeopardy, so I'm going to ruin your

life, Chris Christie.

At least that's what Chris Christie seems to think.

Now, here's the thing.

I don't know how much stock I put into what Chris is saying here.

The guy's a jackass.

He is also a liar and a bully, so I don't know if what he's saying here is truthful

or not, but what we do know is the jared Kushner is a moron.

He has been advising the president, and more importantly, Kushner has also been involved

in pretty much every single thing that's gone wrong for this administration.

Kushner is at the heart of the Mueller investigation as he was in that Trump tower meeting with

an Italian resonance Kaiya.

Kushner is the guy who worked with Erik prince from black water to set up those little meetings

with officials from Qatar and the UAE during the campaign, so he may have even colluded

with other foreign countries.

Yeah.

Kushner is at the heart of all of it.

Not because he's a good businessman, but because he's dumb as hell and that very stupidity

may sink this entire administration.
