Trump news on Youtube Apr 25 2018

(*)

(*)

* AMAZING GRACE

>> Ian: AN EMOTIONAL VIGIL JUST

STEPS AWAY FROM WHERE 10 PEOPLE

WERE KILLED IN THAT HORRIFIC VAN

ATTACK.

TONIGHT WE DON'T YET KNOW WHO

ALL OF THE VICTIMS ARE BUT WE'RE

LEARNING SOME OF THEIR NAMES AND

THEIR STORIES.

WE'LL SHARE SOME OF THOSE WITH

YOU OVER THE NEXT HOUR.

WE ARE ALSO GETTING A BETTER

PICTURE OF THE MAN THAT IS

ACCUSED OF CAUSING ALL OF THIS

HARM.

WE'LL TELL YOU WHAT WE KNOW,

WHAT WE DON'T, AND WHAT COMES

NEXT.

>> Andrew: ALSO TONIGHT, WHAT

WE KNOW ABOUT THE POLICE OFFICER

THAT SOME ARE CALLING A HERO.

>> Rosemary: AND WHY OFFICIALS

AREN'T CALLING THIS ATTACK

TERRORISM.

THIS IS "THE NATIONAL."

(*)

>> Ian: WE ARE HERE IN NORTH

TORONTO WHERE 10 LIVES WERE LOST

AND 14 OTHER PEOPLE WERE

INJURED.

AND SO MANY LIVES HAVE BEEN

CHANGED FOREVER.

YESTERDAY SCENES OF CARNAGE HAVE

BEEN TRANSFORMED IN SOME CASES

TO SCENES OF RESILIENCE BUT ALSO

SCENES OF GRIEF.

WE'LL BRING YOU MORE OF THAT IN

JUST A MOMENT, PARTICULARLY FROM

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AT THE

VIGIL, BUT, FIRST THOUGH LET'S

TELL YOU WHAT THE LATEST

DEVELOPMENTS HAVE BEEN.

EARLIER TODAY THE SUSPECTED

DRIVER, ALEK MINASSIAN, APPEARED

IN COURT.

HE'S CHARGED WITH 10 COUNTS

OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER AND 13

COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED MURDER, WITH

ONE MORE CHARGE EXPECTED SOON.

INVESTIGATORS SAY THAT HIS

PRECISE MOTIVE REMAINS UNCLEAR

BUT POLICE AND FACEBOOK

HAVE CONFIRMED THE REPORTS THAT

WE GAVE YOU LAST NIGHT THAT A

CRYPTIC MESSAGE APPEARED ON HIS

FACEBOOK PROFILE BEFORE THE

ATTACK.

THE CORONER HAS NOT OFFICIALLY

IDENTIFIED ANY OF THE VICTIMS

YET BUT POLICE SAY THEY WERE

MAINLY WOMEN.

WE ARE STARTING TO HEAR FROM

THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

A VIGIL FOR THE VICTIMS WAS HELD

HERE TONIGHT, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE

COMING THROUGH TO PAY THEIR

RESPECTS TO

THOSE WHO DIED AND THOSE WHO ARE

STILL IN HOSPITAL.

(*)

* PRAISE GOD

* PRAISE GOD

>> OUR HEARTS GO OUT TO ALL OF

THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PERISHED AND

THEIR RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.

>> I WAS JUST RIGHT HERE

SATURDAY.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN ME.

SO IT MEANT A LOT FOR ME TO BE

HERE TONIGHT.

>> I TOLD MY SON THAT IN ANY

WEATHER SITUATION WE ARE GOING

TO BE THERE TONIGHT.

>> WE MOURN WITH THOSE AFFECTED

BY THIS, THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

>> Ian: 24 PEOPLE WERE KILLED OR

INJURED IN THE ATTACK AND THAT'S

ONE LESS THAN POLICE ORIGINALLY

THOUGHT.

WE ARE STARTING TO LEARN MORE

ABOUT THEM, ABOUT THE LIVES THAT

HAVE BEEN LOST AND THE PEOPLE

WHO ARE STILL FIGHTING IN

HOSPITAL.

DAVID COMMON HAS THE LATEST ON

THAT ANGLE OF THE STORY.

>> Reporter: THE JOB OF

IDENTIFYING THE DEAD AND INJURED

IS EXTRAORDINARILY CHALLENGING.

YOUNG AND OLD, CANADIANS AND

FOREIGN VISITORS.

BUT EVEN WITHOUT CERTAINTY

FAMILIES HAVE BEEN TOLD TO

PREPARE FOR TERRIBLE NEWS.

>> WHEN I LEFT I SAW ALL OF THE

BODIES.

SORRY.

I SAW THE BODIES ON THE ROAD.

>> Reporter: MOST OF THOSE

KILLED WERE CARRYING

IDENTIFICATION.

BUT THE CORONER SAYS THAT ISN'T

ENOUGH, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE

DAMAGE TO BODIES IS SO

EXTENSIVE.

>> FRANKLY, IT TAKES TIME TO GET

RECORDS AND IT TAKES TIME TO

MEET FAMILIES, SO THAT'S NOT A

RESOURCE ISSUE, THAT'S REALLY

THAT YOU NEED TO ENSURE THAT

YOU'RE TALKING TO THE RIGHT

PERSON.

YOU TAKE THE TIME TO DO THAT.

>> Reporter: WHAT IS KNOWN --

TWO SOUTH KOREAN CITIZENS ARE

AMONG THE DEAD -- STUDENTS

STUDYING IN CANADA.

SO TOO IS A JORDANIAN MAN HERE

TO VISIT HIS SON.

MUNIR ABDU HABIB AL-NAJJAR.

80-YEAR-OLD DOROTHY SEWELL WAS

ON THE STREET, PERHAPS ENJOYING

THE LOVELY WEATHER IN HER

RETIREMENT.

GRANDSON

ELLWOOD DeLANEY IS NOW

MOURNING HER LOSS.

>> IT WASN'T AN ACCIDENT.

IT WOULD BE EASIER TO DEAL WITH

IF IT WAS NATURE CAUSED OR AN

ACCIDENT, BUT TO GO OUT THIS

WAY...

>> Reporter: THIS WOMAN'S BEST

FRIEND IS AMONG THE VICTIMS.

ANNE MARIE D'AMICO WAS OUTSIDE

HER OFFICE WHEN THE YOUNG WOMAN

AND VOLUNTEER WAS STRUCK DOWN

AND KILLED.

IN A STATEMENT HER FAMILY SAYS

THAT "IT COMFORTS US KNOWING

THAT THE WORLD HAS HAD A CHANCE

TO KNOW HER AND THAT HER MESSAGE

IN LIFE WILL SURVIVE HER DEATH.

ALTRUISM RATHER THAN ANGER AND

HATRED."

>> I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH HER AND

HER AND I WERE VERY ACTIVELY

ENGAGED TOGETHER IN MANY STUDENT

GROUPS.

SHE WAS A STAR AMONGST MANY

DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND SHE REALLY

WAS IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS A

BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING.

>> Reporter: OTHERS ARE

GRIEVOUSLY INJURED.

A RYERSON INSTRUCTOR IS IN

INTENSIVE CARE.

SHE WAS A STUDENT, AND THE TWO

REMAINED CLOSE IN THE YEARS

SINCE.

>> AMAZING MAN, REALLY AMAZING

MAN.

AND THAT HAPPENED ALMOST FOUR

DAYS AGO.

FOUR DAYS AGO.

>> Reporter: AMONG THE INJURED

ARE CO-WORKERS OF THE DEAD,

ELDERLY RESIDENTS AND OTHERS.

AS THEY ARRIVED AT TRAUMA

CENTRES, NEARLY ALL AT ONCE, IT

WAS CONTROLLED CHAOS.

>> IT WAS, YOU KNOW,

UNIMAGINABLE.

YOU KNOW, I'VE BEEN HERE FOR 14

YEARS AND I HAVE SEEN A LOT BUT

IT WAS DEFINITELY, YOU KNOW,

VERY TRAUMATIC BUT AT THE SAME

TIME AS A NURSE WE'RE TRAINED TO

DO THIS.

>> Ian: DAVID, THERE'S A

REMARKABLE STORY ABOUT A MAN WHO

HAD A VERY CLOSE CALL.

>> Reporter: CERTAINLY, MORGAN

MacDOUGALL IS HIS NAME.

HE FELT SOMETHING, HEARD

SOMETHING, TURNED AROUND AND GOT

HIS BODY TURNED AROUND JUST IN

TIME TO SEE THE VAN.

HE GOT OUT OF THE WAY QUICKLY

BUT WAS STRUCK AT 50 KILOMETRES

AN HOUR, THROWN UNCONSCIOUS, A

BIG GASH UPON HIS HEAD.

PICKED UP BY PARAMEDICS AND

TAKEN OFF TO HOSPITAL BUT NOT

ONLY DID HE SURVIVE BUT COMPARED

TO OTHERS HE'S LIGHTLY WOUNDED.

HE'S RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL BUT,

IAN, TONIGHT HE'S BACK THERE

BECAUSE SOME OF HIS FRIENDS WERE

NOT SO LUCKY.

>> Ian: LET'S TALK ABOUT THE

PEOPLE WHO REMAIN IN HOSPITAL?

>> Reporter: WELL, OBVIOUSLY,

IN TERMS OF THEIR CONDITION IT

IS PRIVATE, IT SHOULD BE.

BUT WE KNOW THAT SUNNYBROOK, THE

TRAUMA CENTRE THAT IS VERY CLOSE

TO HERE, TOOK ABOUT HALF OF THE

PATIENTS.

ALL ARE IN THE INTENSIVE CARE

UNIT.

>> Reporter: OKAY, DAVID,

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> Reporter: THANK YOU.

>> Ian: EVEN BEFORE THE VIGIL

HERE WAS SET UP, THIS CRASH SITE

WAS A GATHERING PLACE FOR SO

MANY IN THE COMMUNITY AND BEHIND

ME YOU CAN SEE NOTES AND SIGNS

AND FLOWERS FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE

REALLY TRYING TO COME TO GRIPS

WITH WHAT'S HAPPENED IN THIS

COMMUNITY.

>> I SAW THE CARNAGE, I SAW

BODIES ON THE STREET, AND I FELT

LIKE SOMEBODY HAS TO DO

SOMETHING.

>> Ian: CONSTANTINE GOLLAGE

WAS MOVED TO START THIS MEMORIAL

TO HONOUR THE VICTIMS AND

SUPPORT THE

COMMUNITY.

>> PEOPLE WERE JUST WALKING BY

BUT EVERYONE NEEDS A MOMENT TO

HEAL AND A CANVAS TO EXPRESS

THEMSELVES.

>> Ian: ALL DAY PEOPLE STOPPED

BY TO LEAVE MESSAGES OF LOVE AND

GRIEF.

>> THIS ROUTE I WALK EVERY DAY,

YOU KNOW.

REALLY EVERY DAY, WE ARE JUST

GOING.

BUT IT'S THE -- BUT I JUST FEEL

SO TERRIBLE.

>> THIS IS MY ROAD EVERY DAY TO

WALK.

AT TIMES LIKE 1:00.

AND I WALK EVERY DAY FROM FINCH

AND --

YONGE AND FINCH TO SHEPPARD.

YESTERDAY I DECIDED TO GO TO THE

GYM INSTEAD.

>> PEOPLE ARE IN PAIN TODAY,

LIKE,

YOU KNOW, YOU ARE GOING ON THE

SUBWAY KNOWING THAT EVEN THOUGH

QUIETLY WE'RE NOT TALKING TO

EACH OTHER, PEOPLE ARE THINKING

ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT HAPPENED.

>> Ian: IT'S BECOME A GATHERING

PLACE FOR COMMUNITY LEADERS,

MEMBERS OF THE NEARBY MOSQUE

COMING TO PRAY.

>> BEING A NATIONAL COMMUNITY IT

WAS IMPORTANT THAT WE COULD BE

HERE WITH OUR MESSAGE WHICH IS

THE MODEL OF OUR COMMUNITY --

LOVE FOR ALL AND HATRED FOR

NONE.

>> Ian: AND POLITICIANS, PREMIER

KATHLEEN WYNNE SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH

MAYOR JOHN TORY LAYING FLOWERS.

>> IT'S VERY SOBERING, VERY

SOMBRE.

>> THIS PLACE WILL FOREVER BE A

SCAR ON THE CITY OF TORONTO.

ONE OF THE THINGS ABOUT ALL

SCARS IS THAT THEY'RE PART OF

THE HEALING PROCESS.

>> Ian: AND THE PREMIER SAW

FIRSTHAND HOW THIS ATTACK HAS

LEFT SOME IN THE COMMUNITY

SHAKEN.

AS WYNNE LEFT SHE MET A STUDENT

FROM SENECA COLLEGE WHERE THE

SUSPECT STUDIED.

>> RIGHT NOW EVERYBODY -- THE

SECURITY IS HEIGHTENED SO YOU

WILL BE OKAY.

IS THERE SOMEBODY THAT COULD GO

WITH YOU?

>> Ian: WYNNE TRIED TO COMFORT

HER AND SUGGESTING SHE CONTACT

THE SCHOOL WHICH IS OFFERING

COUNSELLING.

AT THE HEART OF THE

INVESTIGATION TONIGHT THE

ACCUSED -- ALEK MINASSIAN SAID

VERY LITTLE IN COURT TODAY AND

ONCE AGAIN THIS EVENING OUR

SENIOR INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER

DIANA SWAIN IS LOOKING INTO

MINASSIAN'S LIFE, TRYING TO FIND

ANSWERS ABOUT THE SUSPECT.

>> Reporter: IT'S BEEN A DAY

OF TRYING TO READ HIS FACE.

IS THERE SOMETHING THERE FROM

HIGH SCHOOL OR MORE RECENTLY

THAT SUGGESTED WHAT ALEK

MINASSIAN WAS GOING TO DO?

HIS EXPRESSION BETRAYED NOTHING

TODAY AS HE APPEARED IN COURT

WEARING A WHITE JUMPSUIT, HANDS

CUFFED BEHIND HIS BACK.

HE ANSWERED THE JUDGE'S BRIEF

QUESTIONS IN A CLEAR STEADY

VOICE.

THE AGONIZED EXPRESSION WAS WORN

BY A MAN SEEN WEEPING IN THE

FRONT ROW, BELIEVED TO BE

MINASSIAN'S FATHER.

>> Reporter: YOU WERE QUIET IN

COURT, SIR.

CAN YOU AT LEAST TELL US

WHAT YOU ARE FEELING RIGHT NOW,

PLEASE?

>> Reporter: A PICTURE IS

EMERGING NOW OF MINASSIAN'S LAST

SEVERAL MONTHS.

HE JOINED THE CANADIAN FORCES

LAST FALL AT THIS BASE

IN SAINT-JEAN-sur-RICHELIEU.

THEY SAID THAT MINASSIAN WAS AN

"AVERAGE TO BELOW AVERAGE

RECRUIT.

HE HAD PROBLEMS WITH DRESS,

DEPORTMENT AND GROUP

INTERACTIONS IN A MILITARY

SETTING."

HE WENT BACK TO SENECA COLLEGE

IN TORONTO TO FINISH HIS

COMPUTER STUDIES.

A FELLOW STUDENT WHO DIDN'T WANT

TO BE NAMED DESCRIBED MINASSIAN

AS "SMART, THE PILLAR OF THE

GROUP" BUT ALSO AS "SO AWKWARD."

JUST LAST THURSDAY WHEN

MINASSIAN FINISH THE HIS COURSES

HE POSTED THIS MESSAGE TO SOME

CLASSMATES ON A CHAT GROUP,

"FINALLY FINISHED COLLEGE.

F YOU ALL AND GOOD RIDDANCE."

AND JUST YESTERDAY, THIS, THE

FACEBOOK MESSAGE THAT CBC NEWS

REPORTED ON LAST NIGHT.

FACEBOOK CONFIRMED IT CAME FROM

HIS PROFILE PAGE AND SHUT IT

DOWN.

>> THE ACCUSED IS ALLEGED TO

HAVE POSTED A CRYPTIC MESSAGE

ON FACEBOOK MINUTES BEFORE HE

BEGAN DRIVING THAT RENTED VAN.

>> Reporter: THAT POST BEGINS

WITH WHAT MAY BE A

REFERENCE TO HIS FAILED ARMY

EXPERIENCE.

"PRIVATE RECRUIT MINASSIAN

INFANTRY."

AND THEN "THE INCEL REBELLION

HAS ALREADY BEGUN.

ALL HAIL THE SUPREME GENTLEMAN

ELLIOTT ROGER."

>> I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU GIRLS

AREN'T ATTRACTED TO ME BUT I

WILL PUNISH YOU ALL FOR IT.

>> Reporter: RODGER KILLED

SIX PEOPLE IN A RAMPAGE IN

CALIFORNIA FOUR YEARS AGO,

POSTING THIS RANTING

VIDEO JUST BEFORE.

HE WAS ANGRY ABOUT BEING

REBUFFED BY WOMEN, MAKING HIM A

SO-CALLED INCEL OR INVOLUNTARY

CELIBATE.

MAXIME FORCET WORKS FOR A CENTRE

THAT TRACKS WEBSITES WITH

VIOLENT VIEWS, INCLUDING

INCEL SITES.

>> THEY HAVE HUGE RESENTMENT

TOWARDS SOCIETY AND WOMEN --

MOSTLY WOMEN, BECAUSE

THEY FEEL THAT WOMEN ARE

REJECTING THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY

SEE THEMSELVES AS NICE GUYS.

THAT'S THE FEELING OF INJUSTICE

THAT FUELS RADICALIZATION.

>> Reporter: IS THAT WHAT

PROMPTED MINASSIAN TO DO WHAT HE

DID?

>> IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'LL BE

LOOKING INTO.

>> Ian: DIANA IS JOINING US NOW.

WE HAVE TO ASSUME, DIANA, THAT

INVESTIGATORS WILL LOOK AT THESE

SO-CALLED INCEL SITES.

WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO FIND

THERE?

>> Reporter: UNFORTUNATELY,

IAN, THEY WILL FIND THERE THAT

THERE ARE ALREADY SOME PEOPLE

CELEBRATING MINASSIAN.

SOME WE HAVE SEEN HAVE ALREADY

CHANGED THEIR PROFILE

PICTURE ON THOSE SITES TO HIS

PHOTO.

SO IT'S JUST ANOTHER GROTESQUE

DEVELOPMENT IN WHAT HAS ALREADY

BEEN A HORRIBLE STORY, IAN.

>> Ian: ALL RIGHT, DIANA, THANK

YOU VERY MUCH.

>> Reporter: THANK YOU.

>> Ian: SO WHILE POLICE

INVESTIGATE THE MOTIVE, OFFICERS

HAVE ALSO BEEN GATHERING

EVIDENCE ALONG A VERY LARGE

CRIME SCENE.

MORE THAN 10 MAJOR CITY BLOCKS.

THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE VAN'S

PATH AS IT PLOWED THROUGH YONGE

STREET.

POLICE SAY THAT IT WAS SEVEN

MINUTES AFTER THE FIRST CALL

CAME IN THAT HE WAS PLACED UNDER

ARREST.

THE BIG, BUSY STRETCH OF ROAD

REOPENED THIS EVENING.

AS THE CBC'S RENÉE FILIPPONE

TELLS US, A CRIME SCENE OF THIS

SIZE PRESENTS ITS OWN

CHALLENGES FOR THE

INVESTIGATION.

>> Reporter: IT'S AN ENORMOUS

SCENE.

A TWO KILOMETRE SPAN OF YONGE

STREET WHERE 24 PEOPLE WERE HIT.

>> HALT.

>> Reporter: TODAY IT WAS

ABOUT DOING A DETAILED SEARCH TO

COLLECT EVERY PIECE OF EVIDENCE

FROM THE SCENE WHERE EACH PERSON

WAS STRUCK.

TORONTO POLICE CHIEF MARK

SAUNDERS WELCOMED THE EXTRA HELP

THAT WAS BROUGHT IN TO ANALYSE

THE SCENE.

>> WE HAD TO ACQUIRE THE

RESOURCES OF SPECIALIZED TRAFFIC

RECONSTRUCTION RESOURCES FROM

OTHER JURISDICTIONS.

I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE G.T.A.

COLLECTIVELY CALLED TO PITCH IN.

>> YOU LOOK AT THE POLICE TAPE,

YOU KNOW, SO MANY INTERSECTIONS

AWAY, THESE ARE NOT SMALL

BLOCKS.

THEY'RE LARGE CITY BLOCKS.

>> Reporter: THIS RETIRED

WINNIPEG POLICE OFFICER SPENT A

DECADE DOING CRASH

INVESTIGATIONS.

>> A LOT OF THIS INFORMATION IS

VERY SHORT-LIVED.

IT DOESN'T STAY THERE FOREVER.

IF YOU DON'T DOCUMENT IT

IMMEDIATELY OR AS SOON AS

POSSIBLE IT'S GONE FOREVER.

>> Reporter: DAMION TURNER

SAYS THAT POLICE WILL BE TRYING

TO MAP OUT THE EXACT PATH THAT

THE DRIVER TOOK IN ORDER TO

PROVE FIRST-DEGREE MURDER THEY

HAVE TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE TO SHOW

THAT THE ACCUSED PLANNED TO HIT

PEOPLE.

>> I WOULD IMAGINE THAT THEY'RE

LOOKING FOR INFORMATION OR

LOOKING FOR EVIDENCE THAT WOULD

HELP SHOW THAT PREMEDITATED

ACTION ON BEHALF OF THE DRIVER.

THAT MAYBE HE SWERVED TOWARDS A

PEDESTRIAN AS OPPOSED TO JUST

TRAVELLING STRAIGHT DOWN THE

ROAD BLINDLY HITTING WHATEVER

WAS THERE.

>> Reporter: DESPITE A LOT OF

TALK ABOUT POSSIBLE MOTIVE,

POLICE WON'T CONFIRM ANYTHING AT

THIS POINT.

>> ALL DOORS ARE OPEN,

EVERYTHING WILL BE EXPLORED.

THERE'S A LOT MORE ON VIDEO,

EVIDENCE THAT HAS TO COME IN.

THERE'S A LOT MORE WITNESSES.

>> Reporter: BY EARLY EVENING

THE INVESTIGATION HERE IS NOW

WRAPPING UP.

THE YELLOW POLICE TAPE IS COMING

DOWN AND THE VICTIMS' BODIES

THAT LAID ON THE SIDEWALK ARE

NOW GONE.

BUT POLICE SAY THAT ONCE THEY

LEAVE HERE THEY STILL HAVE WEEKS

OF WORK AHEAD.

RENÉE FILIPPONE, CBC NEWS,

TORONTO.

>> Ian: AND PART OF THAT WORK

WILL BE SPEAKING TO THE POLICE

OFFICER WHO CONTINUES TO RECEIVE

SO MUCH PRAISE, CONSTABLE KEN

LAM CONFRONTED AND ARRESTED THE

SUSPECT.

IT MUST HAVE BEEN A

NERVE-SHATTERING MOMENT AND IT

COULD HAVE ENDED IN

BLOODSHED, BUT, OF COURSE, IT

DID NOT.

IOANNA ROUMELIOTIS NOW ON HOW

THE OFFICER KEPT HIS COOL.

>> Reporter: IT MUST HAVE

SEEMED LIKE AN ETERNITY OR A

FLASH.

A TAKEDOWN THAT LASTED LESS THAN

A MINUTE BY AN OFFICER HAILED A

HERO.

THE HORRIFIC ATTACK HAD ALREADY

BEGUN A FEW BLOCKS AWAY.

CONSTABLE KEN LAM WAS ALONE ON

ROUTINE TRAFFIC DUTY WHEN HE GOT

THE CALL.

HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE, HIS

SIREN BLARING, WHEN THE VAN

CRASHED TO A STOP.

WHAT UNFOLDED IS EXTRAORDINARY.

LAM'S GUN IS DRAWN, POINTING AT

THE VAN.

HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.

THE DRIVER POINTS WHAT APPEARS

TO BE A GUN AND YELLS SOMETHING,

BUT YOU CAN'T HEAR IT OVER THE

SIREN.

IN WHAT EXPERTS CALL A STRATEGIC

MOVE LAM CALMLY REACHES INTO HIS

VEHICLE TO TURN IT OFF.

>> GET DOWN!

GET DOWN!

>> I HAVE A GUN IN MY POCKET.

>> IF HE THOUGHT THAT THERE

WOULD HAVE BEEN A THREAT TO HIS

LIFE HE WOULDN'T

HAVE TAKEN HIS EYES TO THE

SUSPECT.

HE TURNS OFF THE SIREN SO HE

COULD DEESCALATE THE SITUATION.

BECAUSE THE SIREN WILL MAKE THAT

SUSPECT NERVOUS.

>> Reporter: BUT IT DOESN'T

CALM HIM.

THE DRIVER STEPS CLOSER.

HE WANTS THE OFFICER TO SHOOT.

LAM DOESN'T FIRE.

>> HE'S NOT ONLY PROVOKING HIM

AND DOING THAT BUT HE'S ALSO

SAYING TO THE OFFICER, SHOOT ME,

SHOOT ME.

>> Reporter: MIKE McCORMICK

IS THE HEAD OF THE TORONTO

POLICE UNION.

>> IF AT ANY POINT THAT HE

THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS

AN ESCALATION IN THE PERSON'S

BEHAVIOUR AND THERE WAS A THREAT

HE HAD THE ENTIRE JUSTIFICATION

TO USE HIS WEAPON.

>> Reporter: WE CAN'T TELL

FROM THIS ANGLE BUT LAM KNOWS

THAT'S NOT A GUN.

HE DOESN'T SHOOT BUT STEPS BACK

AS THE SUSPECT COMES CLOSER.

THEN SENSING AN OPENING MOVES

FORWARD.

THE POWER DYNAMIC SUDDENLY

SHIFTS.

THE SUSPECT COLLAPSES TO HIS

KNEES.

SUDDENLY IT'S OVER.

>> WHEN I WAS TALKING TO HIM

YESTERDAY HE WAS SAYING, MIKE,

I'M JUST A COP, THIS IS WHAT WE

DO.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?

>> Reporter: HE'S CERTAINLY

HUMBLE AND OFFICERS ARE TRAINED

TO DE-ESCALATE, BUT STILL...

>> IT IS A FOCAL POINT OF OUR

TRAINING PIECE.

HAVING SAID THAT, THAT

PARTICULAR SITUATION YESTERDAY

THE WAY IN WHICH IT WENT DOWN

WAS NOTHING SHORT OF REMARKABLE.

>> Reporter: REMARKABLE

BECAUSE TRAINING CAN ONLY GO SO

FAR.

SCOTT GIOVANNETTI IS A FORMER

POLICE INSTRUCTOR...

>> HE USED THE LEAST AMOUNT OF

FORCE POSSIBLE TO END THE

INCIDENT AND I AGREE WITH THE

CHARACTERIZATION THAT HE WAS A

HERO.

>> Reporter: AS FOR LAM HE IS

OVERWHELMED AND TAKING SOME TIME

OFF.

AS A KEY WITNESS HE WON'T BE

SPEAKING PUBLICLY FOR A WHILE

BUT WILL NO DOUBT ALWAYS BE

KNOWN AS THE COP WHO DIDN'T

SHOOT.

IOANNA ROUMELIOTIS, CBC NEWS,

TORONTO.

>> Ian: A FINAL POINT ON THIS,

ROSIE, THE FACT THAT CONSTABLE

LAM DID MANAGE TO ARREST THE

SUSPECT ALIVE LEAVES OPEN THE

POSSIBILITY AT LEAST THAT THE

SUSPECT WILL TALK TO POLICE AND

ANSWER THAT TROUBLING

QUESTION -- WHAT WAS ON HIS

MIND?

>> Rosemary: HE JUST IMPRESSED

THE HECK OUT OF US SO HE'LL HAVE

TO LIVE WITH THAT TOO.

IAN, ACROSS THE COUNTRY WE HAVE

SEEN

TRIBUTES LIKE THE ONES BEHIND

YOU POURING IN AND LET'S START

HERE IN OTTAWA THOUGH.

THE PRIME MINISTER WAS ASKED

ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION THIS

MORNING.

JUSTIN TRUDEAU SAYS THAT THE

ATTACK DOES NOT REPRESENT A

THREAT TO CANADA'S NATIONAL

SECURITY AND HE HAD THIS MESSAGE

FOR CANADIANS...

>> Prime Minister Justin

Trudeau: WE CANNOT AS CANADIANS

CHOOSE TO LIVE IN FEAR EVERY

SINGLE DAY AS WE GO ABOUT OUR

DAILY BUSINESS.

WE NEED TO FOCUS ON DOING WHAT

WE CAN, WE MUST, TO KEEP

CANADIANS SAFE WHILE WE STAY

TRUE TO THE FREEDOMS AND VALUES

THAT WE ALL AS CANADIANS HOLD

DEAR.

>> Rosemary: YOU HAVE LIKELY

HEARD SIMILAR WORDS BEFORE FROM

OTHER LEADERS FOLLOWING

SIMILAR ATTACKS.

THEY ARE ATTACKS AGAINST WHAT'S

KNOWN AS SOFT TARGETS, EVERYDAY

PLACES WHERE PEOPLE GO ABOUT

THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES.

THE DIFFICULT JOB OF PROTECTING

THOSE SPACES WAS ON THE AGENDA

AT THE MEETING OF G7 SECURITY

MINISTERS IN TORONTO TODAY.

KATIE SIMPSON HAS MORE ON THE

TARGET.

>> Reporter: IT DIDN'T TAKE

LONG FOR THE NEW NORMAL TO

ARRIVE.

CONCRETE BARRIERS ARE IN PLACE

FOR NOW AROUND TORONTO'S UNION

STATION.

IT IS ONE OF THE FEW WAYS TO

PROTECT BUSY PUBLIC SPACES WHICH

WAS DISCUSSED TODAY BY G7

NATIONAL SECURITY MINISTERS.

>> The Hon. Ralph Goodale: I

THINK THAT OUR AMERICAN FRIENDS

AND ALL OF YOU AROUND THE TABLE

FOR YOUR OFFERS OF SUPPORT, I

THANK YOU.

>> Reporter: RALPH GOODALE WAS

HOSTING COUNTERPARTS FOR

MEETINGS IN TORONTO WHEN THE

ATTACK HAPPENED.

CBC NEWS HAS LEARNED THAT

SHORTLY AFTER 1:30 p.m. ON

MONDAY THE HEADS OF THE RCMP,

C.S.I.S., CANADIAN FORCES, AND

THE PRIVY COUNCIL OFFICE WERE

TOLD TO LOOK FOR ANY FILES THEY

MAY HAVE ON THE SUSPECT OR

WHAT'S CALLED A "FULL SPECTRUM

REVIEW."

THE INFORMATION WAS USED TO SEE

IF ALEK MINASSIAN HAD ANY TIES

TO TERROR GROUPS OR IF THIS

COULD BE A PART OF A LARGER

PLOT.

THE AGENCIES QUICKLY COMPARED

NOTES TO REALIZE THAT HE WAS NOT

KNOWN TO AUTHORITIES AND WAS NOT

ON ANY WATCH LIST.

BUT TODAY GOODALE SUGGESTED THAT

HE MAY NOW BE CONCERNED ABOUT

GROUPS LIKE INCEL.

>> The Hon. Ralph Goodale:

THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY MOTIVATED BY

VIEWS AND PERVERTED PERSPECTIVES

THAT PUT THESE FOLKS IN AN ODD

CATEGORY.

>> Reporter: TORONTO POLICE

REMAIN THE LEAD INVESTIGATORS

WHICH MEANS THE NEXT BIG

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE

GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO REASSURE

CANADIANS THEY ARE SAFE TO GO

ABOUT THEIR DAILY LIVES.

THE MESSAGE IS CRITICAL SINCE

THERE'S LITTLE OFFICIALS CAN DO

TO PROTECT AGAINST ATTACKS IN

PUBLIC SPACES.

>> WE CANNOT IN LIFE PROTECT

PEOPLE AGAINST EVERYTHING.

OUR JOB IS TO TRY TO DO THE BEST

WE CAN.

>> Reporter: POLICE WILL

DECIDE IF AND WHEN THESE

BARRICADES HERE AT UNION STATION

CAN BE TAKEN DOWN.

IT TOO IS PART OF THE OVERALL

CAMPAIGN TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL

SAFER IN PUBLIC SPACES.

KATIE SIMPSON, CBC NEWS,

TORONTO.

>> Rosemary: THE CRASH

YESTERDAY CERTAINLY INVOKED

TERROR ON THE STREET IN TORONTO

BUT OFFICIALS HAVE BEEN

RELUCTANT TO DESCRIBE IT AS

TERRORISM.

SO WHY ARE SOME ATTACKS LABELLED

TERROR AND OTHERS ARE NOT?

>> WHAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY IS

CLEARLY LINKED TO A TERRORIST

IDEOLOGY.

>> Rosemary: IN 2014 THERE WAS

NO QUESTION, MARTIN

COUTURE-ROULEAU TURNED HIS CAR

INTO A WEAPON AND KILLED A

SOLDIER IN

SAINT-JEAN-sur-RICHELIEU.

IT WAS CALLED AN ACTOR OF TERROR

BY A RADICALIZED LONE WOLF

INSPIRED BY ISIS.

NOT SO FOR YESTERDAY.

A DEVASTATING CRIME BUT NO

OFFICIAL OR AUTHORITY HAS

LABELLED IT TERRORISM.

PART OF THE REASON FROM THE

PUBLIC SAFETY MINISTER...

>> The Hon. Ralph Goodale: AS

FAR AS THE INFORMATION WOULD

TELL US TO THIS POINT THERE IS

NO NATIONAL SECURITY CONNECTION.

>> Reporter: IN CANADA THE

DEFINITION OF "TERRORISM" IS

CLEARLY LAID OUT IN THE CRIMINAL

CODE.

AS "AN ACT UNDERTAKEN IN WHOLE

OR IN PART FOR A POLITICAL,

RELIGIOUS, OR IDEOLOGICAL

PURPOSE, OBJECTIVE OR CAUSE THAT

IS INTENTED TO INTIMIDATE THE

PUBLIC."

>> THE KEY REASON FOR DEFINING

AN ACT AS BEING ONE OF TERRORISM

OR NOT HAS TO DO WITH

MOTIVATION.

>> Rosemary: IN THE FAILED

EDMONTON U-HAUL ATTACK LAST YEAR

AND IN THE QUÉBEC CITY MOSQUE

ATTACK THAT KILLED SIX PEOPLE,

POLITICIANS LABELLED BOTH

ATTACKERS "TERRORISTS," YET NO

TERRORISM CHARGE WAS LAID.

>> USUALLY THEY'RE NOT LAID

BECAUSE THIS IS AN ELEMENT OF

MOTIVATION.

I MEAN YOU REALLY HAVE TO HIT A

PRETTY HIGH

STANDARD IN COURT TO BE ABLE TO

PROVE THAT A PERSON'S ACTIONS

WERE ROOTED IN THIS IDEOLOGICAL

MOTIVATION.

>> Rosemary: AND SOMETIMES

THAT WORD "TERRORISM" GETS IN

THE WAY.

TAKE THE MONCTON SHOOTINGS,

JUSTIN BOURQUE SHOT AND KILLED

THREE RCMP OFFICERS.

OFFICIALS NEVER CALLED IT

TERRORISM EVEN THOUGH POLICE DID

CONSIDER LAYING THAT CHARGE.

>> IT'S EASIER TO PROCEED WITH

THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE AN

OBVIOUS MURDER CASE AND THAT THE

PENALTY FOR MURDER IS AS SEVERE

AS THE PENALTY FOR TERRORISM SO

IT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE.

>> Rosemary: STILL, JUSTIN

BOURQUE IS ONE OF THE CANADIANS

WHO HAS RECEIVED ONE OF THE

LONGEST SENTENCES IN CANADIAN

HISTORY -- 75 YEARS WITH NO

PAROLE.

>> Ian: OUR SPECIAL COVERAGE

FROM TORONTO CONTINUES TONIGHT.

THIS IS A BIG CITY MADE UP OF

SMALL NEIGHBORHOODS AND THIS ONE

NORTH OF DOWNTOWN IS STILL

REELING.

I SPENT THE DAY TALKING TO

PEOPLE HERE ABOUT THEIR

DETERMINATION IN THE FACE OF

TRAGEDY.

>> Rosemary: IAN, THE PREMIER

ALSO AT THAT MEMORIAL TODAY AND

LATER TONIGHT AND I SPOKE TO HER

EARLIER ABOUT THE MOMENTS AFTER

SHE FIRST HEARD ABOUT THE ATTACK

AND WHAT COULD BE DONE NOW TO

PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING

AGAIN.

>> Andrew: AND ANOTHER STORY

THAT WE ARE FOLLOWING TONIGHT, A

CBC EXCLUSIVE.

RYAN STRASCHNITZKI SURVIVED THE

HUMBOLDT BUS CRASH AND NOW HE'S

TELLING HIS STORY.

>> MY TEAMMATES ARE IN FRONT OF

ME BLOODIED AND WHATNOT AND MY

FIRST REACTION WAS TO GET UP AND

HELP BUT I COULDN'T MOVE.

SO IT WAS PRETTY TOUU

(*)

>> Ian: TONIGHT WE'RE HERE IN

NORTH YORK ON YONGE STREET,

USUALLY CROWDED WITH CARS, ONE

OF THE BUSIEST STREETS IN THE

CITY.

TONIGHT IT'S THE SIDEWALKS THAT

ARE CROWDED WITH PEDESTRIANS WHO

HAVE COME HERE TO PAY THEIR

RESPECTS TO THE VICTIMS.

NORTH YORK IS ABOUT 30 MINUTES

NORTH OF DOWNTOWN TORONTO AND IT

IS ONE OF THE MOST DIVERSE

NEIGHBOURHOODS IN THE COUNTRY.

I SPENT THE DAY HERE AS THE

COMMUNITY TRIED TO MAKE SENSE OF

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY.

(*)

A SMALL EXAMPLE OF A CLOSE

COMMUNITY, THE SIMPLE GESTURE OF

A LOCAL SHOP OFFERING FREE

FLOWERS TRYING TO PROVIDE SOME

MEASURE OF COMFORT.

AND THEY GAVE AWAY A LOT.

THE CO-OWNER RELUCTANTLY

SPEAKING ON CAMERA ABOUT WHY.

SO YOU DECIDED TO GIVE AWAY

FLOWERS TODAY.

WHY?

>> YEAH.

JUST LITTLE THINGS THAT WE CAN

HELP, LIKE, WHAT WE CAN DO -- WE

HAVE FLOWERS SO THAT'S ALL.

>> Ian: HOW ARE PEOPLE DOING

TODAY?

>> WELL, EVERYBODY IS GRIEVING

IN DIFFERENT WAYS.

>> Ian: VANITA HOYE WORKS DOWN

THE STREET.

SHE AND HER CO-WORKER ARE STILL

SHAKEN OF WHAT THEY HAVE SEEN.

>> IT SEEMS THAT EVERYBODY CAME

TOGETHER.

>> Ian: AT THE MEMORIAL?

>> YES.

>> Ian: WHAT ABOUT IN YOUR

WORKPLACE AND ALL OF THE PEOPLE

WHO SAW YESTERDAY WHAT HAPPENED,

HOW ARE THEY DOING?

>> THEY'RE DOING OKAY.

WE HAD GRIEF COUNSELLORS COME IN

TODAY AND TALK TO US.

SO SOME OF US WERE ABLE TO TALK

TO THEM AND SOME WEREN'T ABLE.

(*)

>> Ian: ASK PEOPLE HERE TO

DEFINE THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD AND

THEY'LL SAY IT'S MULTIETHNIC,

FRIENDLY, SAFE.

BUT IT'S THAT LAST PART THAT

FEELS IN DOUBT FOR SOME TODAY.

GINA CHANG, LIKE SO MANY PEOPLE,

SAW THE CARNAGE OUTSIDE HER

WORKPLACE.

FIRST TWO THINGS THAT YOU TALKED

ABOUT IS WALKING AND SAFETY.

>> YEAH.

>> Ian: AND NOW I'M SURE THAT

SOME PEOPLE FEEL THEY WONDER IF

THAT IS STILL THE CASE?

>> NO.

NOBODY -- LIKE EVERY PERSON THAT

I SPOKE TO SINCE YESTERDAY,

EVERYONE JUST SAID TO ME HOW

COULD THIS HAPPEN HERE?

COMING TO WORK TODAY I STILL

FELT A LITTLE -- LIKE MAYBE

THERE COULD BE ANOTHER

POSSIBILITY OF -- I DON'T KNOW,

A SIMILAR ATTACK, I DON'T KNOW.

>> EVERY DAY YOU WALK...

>> Ian: HE SAYS THAT HE NOTICED

HIS NEIGHBOURS ARE DIFFERENT

TODAY.

>> I FEEL THAT PEOPLE'S FACES

ARE FROZEN, THEY DON'T KNOW HOW

TO PROCESS IT.

I FELT THAT WHERE SOME OF MY

NEIGHBOURS AND I FELT A BIT OF

COLDNESS IN THE ELEVATORS.

I TAKE THE ELEVATORS EVERY DAY

IN MY CONDO BUILDING BUT I FELT

THAT AND I TRIED EXTRA HARD TO

BE GOOD TO THEM AND SMILE AT

THEM.

BECAUSE A SMILE CAN CHANGE A

PERSON'S PERSPECTIVE, IT'S JUST

A MATTER OF ONE SMILE.

(*)

>> AFTER THAT THING HAPPENED I

THOUGHT PEOPLE ARE COMBINED

TOGETHER TO MAKE ME MORE WARM,

YEAH.

THAT'S ALL.

>> Ian: THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> Ian: THERE'S A LOT OF WORRY

HERE BUT THERE'S ALSO A LOT OF

OPTIMISM AND THERE ARE PEOPLE

WHO ARE SEEKING COMFORT.

AMONG THE PEOPLE WHO CAME BY

THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD, ROSIE,

EARLIER TODAY THE PREMIER

KATHLEEN WYNNE.

>> Rosemary: THAT'S RIGHT,

IAN, AS WE SHOWED YOU EARLIER

SHE WAS THERE WITH THE MAYOR

JOHN TORY.

THEY BOTH WROTE MESSAGES OF

CONDOLENCE TO THE VICTIMS'

FAMILIES AND THEY LAID BOUQUETS

OF FLOWERS.

THEN THEY LEFT WORDS LEFT

BY OTHERS ON CARDBOARD AND

POST-ITS TAPED TO THE SQUARE.

PREMIER KATHLEEN WYNNE IS

JOINING US FROM TORONTO.

PREMIER, YOU WERE AT THE

MEMORIAL TODAY AND TALKING TO

LOTS OF PEOPLE DOWN THERE.

WHAT HAS STRUCK YOU ABOUT THE

REACTION, NOT ONLY FROM THE

PEOPLE IN THAT NEIGHBOURHOOD BUT

FROM THE CITY AT LARGE?

>> WELL, IT WAS A VERY SOMBRE

PLACE, ROSEMARY, AS YOU CAN

IMAGINE.

THERE WERE PEOPLE FROM THE

COMMUNITY WHO HAD WRITTEN

MESSAGES IN, A WHOLE RANGE OF

LANGUAGES THAT REFLECTED THE

COMMUNITY IN THAT AREA, BUT ALSO

THAT REFLECT THE CITY.

THERE WAS A THEME OF LOVE THAT

WENT THROUGH ALL OF THE

MESSAGES.

THERE WAS ONE THAT PARTICULARLY

STOOD OUT AND IT SAID, I DON'T

KNOW YOU BUT I LOVE YOU.

AND SO I THINK THAT PEOPLE ARE

LOOKING FOR A WAY IN THIS CITY

TO EXPRESS THEIR LOVE, EXPRESS

THEIR CONCERN AND THEIR SYMPATHY

FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN A

VICTIM OR A FAMILY OR A FRIEND

OF THIS HORRIFIC TRAGEDY.

>> Rosemary: WHEN YOU FIRST

GOT THAT CALL YESTERDAY -- I

IMAGINE THAT IT'S THE CALL THAT

YOU LEAST WANT TO GET AS

PREMIER, WHAT DID YOU

IMMEDIATELY THINK WERE

HAPPENING?

WERE YOU CONCERNED THAT IT WAS

AN ACT OF TERRORISM?

>> I THINK THAT CROSSES YOUR

MIND, YOU KNOW.

IT'S ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT

COMES UP.

I WANTED TO KNOW THAT OUR FIRST

RESPONDERS HAD ALL OF THE

SUPPORT THEY NEEDED.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE

PROVINCIAL FIRST RESPONDERS WERE

WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE FEDERAL

AND THE MUNICIPAL POLICE

SERVICES.

THE TORONTO POLICE SERVICE HAS

DONE A WONDERFUL JOB.

THEY HAVE LED THE WAY ON THIS.

WE HAVE BEEN WORKING VERY

CLOSELY WITH THEM AND I WANTED

TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAD

EVERYTHING THEY NEEDED AND THAT,

YOU KNOW, WE WERE -- WE WERE

SURE THAT IF THERE WAS GOING TO

BE A SECOND -- A SECOND EVENT,

THAT WE WERE PREPARED FOR THAT.

THAT IS WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH

MY MIND IMMEDIATELY.

>> Rosemary: THERE ARE NOW

SUGGESTIONS BETWEEN WHAT WE KNOW

THAT IS WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH

MY MIND IMMEDIATELY.

>> Rosemary: THERE ARE NOW

SUGGESTIONS BETWEEN WHAT WE KNOW

ABOUT THE SUSPECT AND HIS

ATTACHMENT TO A FACEBOOK GROUP

WHERE HE SEEMED TO EXPRESS SOME

FEELINGS -- SOME HATEFUL

FEELINGS TOWARDS WOMEN AND SOME

MEN.

AND WE ALSO KNOW THAT SOME OF

THE VICTIMS NOW ARE -- THERE ARE

MORE WOMEN THAN MEN.

DO YOU READ ANYTHING INTO THAT?

ARE POLICE TELLING YOU ANYTHING

ABOUT THAT AND WHETHER IT SPEAKS

TO MOTIVE?

>> I THINK THAT IT'S TOO EARLY,

ROSEMARY, TO SPECULATE ON ANY OF

THAT.

THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.

I THINK THAT WE HAVE TO LET --

WE HAVE TO LET THE EXPERTS DO

THEIR WORK.

>> Rosemary: WHAT YOU CAN DO

THOUGH AS THE PREMIER IS START

THINKING ABOUT PREVENTATIVE

MEASURES THAT CAN BE PUT IN

PLACE FOR THINGS LIKE THIS TO

NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.

OF COURSE THIS IS ONE OF THESE

ATTACKS ON

SOFT TARGETS WITH A VAN THAT NO

ONE SUSPECTS WOULD BE A WEAPON.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT

ALREADY IN TERMS OF TRYING TO

PREVENT THINGS LIKE THIS

HAPPENING AGAIN?

>> YES, YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.

AND, IN FACT, OUR CABINET

COMMITTEE ON EMERGENCY

MANAGEMENT MET THIS AFTERNOON

AND THIS WAS ONE OF THE TOPICS

AND

ARE WE NOW LOOKING AT WHAT

MEASURES COULD BE PUT IN PLACE?

AND, AGAIN, IT'S EARLY DAYS BUT

WE ARE -- WE ARE ABSOLUTELY

LOOKING AT WHAT CAN WE DO.

I THINK THAT, YOU KNOW, I THINK,

ROSEMARY, THIS IS A QUESTION

THAT IS BEING ASKED IN MANY

JURISDICTIONS.

WHEN YOU'RE DEALING WITH A

RANDOM ACT OF THIS KIND, YOU

KNOW, TO WHAT DEGREE IS IT

RANDOM?

TO WHAT DEGREE IS THE PLACE

RANDOM?

WHAT ARE THE PREDICTIVE FACTORS

THAT CAN BE PUT IN PLACE?

AND THEN WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT

THAT?

WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT WE DO

NOT WANT -- WE DON'T WANT TO

CHANGE OUR CITIES IN THIS

PROVINCE TO BE PLACES WHERE

PEOPLE DON'T FEEL SAFE TO WALK.

WE WANT -- WE WANT TO MAKE IT

CLEAR TO EACH OTHER THAT WE LIVE

IN A SAFE PLACE, THAT WE -- THAT

WE ARE RESILIENT COMMUNITIES,

AND THAT WE WILL GET THROUGH

THIS, BUT WE ARE LOOKING AT WHAT

MORE COULD WE DO TO PREVENT AND

TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE.

>> Rosemary: OKAY, PREMIER,

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

>> THANK YOU.

>> Rosemary: I APPRECIATE IT.

(*)

>> Ian: WE HAVE MORE AHEAD FROM

THE MEMORIAL IN TORONTO.

IN THE FACE OF SUCH AN UGLY

ATTACK WE'LL LOOK AT HOW PEOPLE

HERE ARE DETERMINED TO FOCUS ON

WHAT MAKES THEIR CITY BEAUTIFUL.

>> Andrew: BUT, FIRST, WE WILL

HAVE A DIFFERENT STORY OF

SURVIVAL.

RYAN STRASCHNITZKI WAS IN THE

HUMBOLDT BUS CRASH.

TONIGHT HE'S SPEAKING

EXCLUSIVELY WITH OUR SUSAN

ORMISTON ABOUT HIS WILL TO

RETURN TO THE ICE.

>> I HAVE TO GET INTO A

WHEELCHAIR TODAY AND I KNOW THAT

I WILL SIT IN IT LONGER THAN I

DID YESTERDAY.

AND IF I HAVE

TO SIT ON THE EDGE OF THE BED TO

PRACTISE AND KEE

>> Andrew: MORE THAN TWO WEEKS

AFTER THAT DEADLY BUS CRASH IN

SASKATCHEWAN THERE IS SOME

PROGRESS.

TWO HUMBOLDT BRONCOS PLAYERS IN

HOSPITAL ARE NO LONGER IN

CRITICAL CONDITION.

THERE ARE STILL SIX PLAYERS

RECOVERING IN A SASKATOON

HOSPITAL AND THE SURVIVORS HAVE

A LONG WAY TO GO.

BUT JUST DAYS AFTER THE TRAGEDY

YOU MIGHT REMEMBER A REMARKABLE

MOMENT OF COURAGE FROM ONE OF

THEM --

RYAN STRASCHNITZKI.

WHEN THE DOCTORS TOLD HIM THAT

HE WAS PARALYSED HE IMMEDIATELY

REASSURED HIS PARENTS THAT HE IS

GETTING BACK ON TO THE ICE.

HE'S GOING TO LEARN TO PLAY

SLEDGE HOCKEY AND WIN GOLD, NO

LESS, AT THE PARALYMPICS.

A TOUGH SPIRIT, TO BE SURE.

BUT AS HE TOLD OUR SUSAN

ORMISTON IN AN EXCLUSIVE SITDOWN

INTERVIEW THAT IT'S WHAT HIS

FRIENDS WOULD HAVE WANTED.

>> HI, RYAN, NICE TO MEET YOU.

FINALLY.

I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO YOUR MOM

FOR TWO WEEKS ALMOST AND IT IS

SUCH A RELIEF TO SEE YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> Reporter: RYAN

STRASCHNITZKI FACES THE TOUGHEST

CHALLENGE OF HIS LIFE --

LEARNING TO LIVE WITH PARALYSIS.

YOU MUST HAVE GONE THROUGH SOME

INCREDIBLY INTENSE EMOTIONS IN

THOSE TWO WEEKS.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THAT?

>> I HAD MY MOMENTS.

I DON'T THINK THAT THE WHOLE

INCIDENT HIT ME UNTIL A COUPLE

DAYS AFTER.

THINKING ABOUT IT AND SEEING MY

TEAMMATES THAT WERE ALIVE AND IT

WAS GOOD TO SEE THEM.

>> Reporter: RYAN WAS A

DEFENCEMAN FOR THE BRONCOS, A

ROOKIE, RECRUITED FROM A TEAM IN

LEDUC, ALBERTA.

ON APRIL 6th WHEN THE TEAM BUS

AND A SEMI-TRAILER HIT HE WAS

CATAPULTED OUT.

DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED?

>> YEAH, I WAS THROWN FROM THE

BUS AND I WAS GOING TO TEXT MY

GIRLFRIEND AND THE BUS DRIVER

SAID WHOA AND I KIND OF LOOKED

AND THERE'S A SEMITRUCK THAT

FULLED OUT IN FRONT OF US.

THE INITIAL COLLISION, I BLACKED

OUT.

I WOKE UP I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG

LATER AND MY BACK

WAS UP AGAINST THE SEMI, I WAS

SITTING UP, AND I COULD JUST

REMEMBER SOME OF THE PAIN AND

STARING AT THE BUS.

IT WAS CUT IN HALF AND MY

TEAMMATES WERE SITTING IN FRONT

OF ME LIKE BLOODY AND WHATNOT.

SO MY INITIAL REACTION WAS TO

GET

UP AND HELP BUT I COULDN'T MOVE.

SO IT WAS PRETTY TOUGH.

>> Reporter: HE WAS RUSHED TO

A SASKATOON HOSPITAL.

THE NEXT DAY HE WENT INTO

SURGERY.

HIS SPINAL CORD SEVERELY

DAMAGED, AMONGST OTHER INJURIES.

>> I HAVE A FRACTURED CLAVICLE,

LEFT CLAVICLE AND SCAPULA.

AND MY T3 HAS BEEN A COMPLETE

FRACTURE.

MY RIBS ON BOTH SIDES ARE

FRACTURED AS WELL FROM A

PUNCTURED LEFT LUNG AND INTERNAL

BLEEDING IN THE HEAD.

BUT I'VE JUST BEEN GETTING

BETTER AND BETTER.

>> Reporter: WHAT ABOUT YOUR

MOBILITY WITH YOUR CHAIR?

>> MOBILITY -- JUST PRACTISE

GETTING OUT OF THE CHAIR.

AND THEY'LL TEACH ME HOW TO LIVE

MY LIFE IN A CHAIR AND WHATNOT

AND GETTING THE UPPER BODY

STRENGTH TO DO EVERYDAY THINGS

LIKE CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES AND GET

INTO YOUR WHEELCHAIR AND FEED

YOURSELF AND WHATNOT.

>> Reporter: WHAT HAVE BEEN

SOME OF THE MOST DIFFICULT

MOMENTS FOR YOU?

>> LIKE NOT BEING ABLE TO,

LIKE -- SORRY --

>> Reporter: IT'S OKAY.

IF IT'S TOO TOUGH, DON'T WORRY.

>> OKAY.

JUST NOT BEING ABLE TO GO TO THE

FUNERALS.

>> Reporter: RIGHT.

YOU WERE TOO SICK TO GO.

YEAH.

YEAH.

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO REMEMBER

THEM IN A DIFFERENT WAY IN THE

FUTURE?

>> YEAH, LIKE, I'M DOING THIS

ALL FOR THEM.

SO IT'S MY WAY TO REMEMBER THEM,

THEY'RE ALWAYS THERE.

>> Reporter: YOUR COACH WAS

CLOSE TO YOU?

COACH DARCY HOGAN WAS A MENTOR.

HE WAS KILLED IN THE CRASH.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THAT DARCY,

THE COACH, WOULD TELL YOU NOW?

>> JUST BE TOUGH, KEEP PUSHING.

YOU WERE GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE

SO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.

>> Reporter: UM-HMM.

AND HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

>> I CAN PUSH THROUGH EVERY DAY

AND KEEP POSITIVE.

YOU KNOW, FIGHTING THROUGH IT

AND JUST KEEPING THAT MINDSET OF

YOU CAN DO THIS.

PEOPLE ARE SAYING, WELL, HE'LL

NEVER WALK AGAIN.

BUT JUST PUSH THROUGH IT.

>> Reporter: DAD, TOM, AND

MOM, MICHELLE, ARE DETERMINED TO

KEEP RYAN ON TRACK AND MOVING

FORWARD.

AT HIS SIDE OVER THE LAST TWO

WEEKS CONSTANTLY AND MANAGING

THREE OTHER THREE CHILDREN ALONG

WITH THE FULL DAYS AT THE

HOSPITAL.

THEY CREDIT HIM WITH THE STRONG

SPIRIT DESPITE THE TRAUMA.

>> IT WAS ABOUT THREE DAYS IN

THE I.C.U. AND HE LOOKED AT

ME -- TOM WAS OUT OF THE ROOM --

AND HE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID AM

I OKAY NOW, MOM, WILL I NOT DIE

IN MY SLEEP?

AND THAT -- THAT JUST ABOUT

KILLED ME BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA

THAT HE WAS EVEN THINKING THAT.

>> Reporter: SO HOW DO YOU

DEAL WITH IT NOW?

WHAT'S THE CHALLENGE FOR YOU AND

HOW DO YOU SUPPORT YOUR SON?

>> WELL, TO JUST KEEP HIM

POSITIVE AND SAY NOTHING IS SET

IN STONE AND IF WE FIND A LITTLE

DOOR WE'LL GO THROUGH IT.

AND WE'LL DO IT AS A FAMILY AND

YOU GOT ALL OF THE SUPPORT FROM

AROUND THE WORLD.

SO I SAID LET'S DO IT.

AND HE'S OKAY.

>> Reporter: YOU SAY THAT YOU

LIKE A CHALLENGE.

>> YEAH.

>> Reporter: WHERE DO YOU SET

YOUR GOALS NOW?

>> I JUST SET MY GOALS, LIKE, IF

I HAVE TO GET INTO A WHEELCHAIR

TODAY AND I KNOW THAT I WILL SIT

IN IT LONGER THAN I DID

YESTERDAY.

IF I HAVE TO SIT UP ON THE EDGE

OF THE BED AND PRACTISE TO KEEP

MY BALANCE, I'LL DO IT LONGER

EACH DAY AND TRY TO DO MORE

THINGS.

SO JUST NOT HUGE THINGS, JUST

LITTLE THINGS AND BUILD UP

TOWARDS THE FINAL DAYS HERE.

>> Reporter: THE MANY HOSPITAL

VISITS HAVE BEEN A BIG BOOST AND

SO HAS THE OVERWHELMING SUPPORT

FROM CANADIANS.

AND THEN THERE WERE A FEW

UNIQUELY HOCKEY MOMENTS.

>> AND SOMEONE NUDGED ME AND I

WOKE UP AND THERE'S A STANLEY

CUP IN FRONT OF ME.

BUT I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT YOU

HAVE TO EARN THE STANLEY CUP SO

I DIDN'T TOUCH IT.

>> Reporter: STILL, A FIERCELY

MOTIVATED ATHLETE, RYAN IS

TAKING ON THIS NEXT PHASE OF

TRAINING WITH A HUGE DOSE OF

COURAGE.

>> I JUST WANT TO GET BACK ON

THE ICE, WHETHER IT'S SLEDGE

HOCKEY OR POSSIBLY LIKE COACHING

OR SCOUTING, I JUST LOVE BEING

ON THE ICE.

SO ANYWAY THAT I CAN DO THAT

WOULD BE AWESOME.

>> Reporter: SUSAN ORMISTON,

AHEAD BUT HE SEEMS UP TO THE

Melania And Donald Trump Hold-Hands For First State Dinner After Earlier Awkward Moment - Duration: 2:27.

First Lady Melania and President Donald Trump seemed to have coordinated their hand

movements after an earlier awkward encounter set Twitter ablaze.

The first couple was stoic as they stood in front of the White House steps on Tuesday

night minutes, before greeting French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, ahead

of their first State dinner.

Melania, 47, wore a black Chanel Chantilly lace haute couture gown that was hand painted

with silver and embroidered with crystal and sequins.

The Macrons stood beside them and posed in front of the steps after they arrived, with

Brigitte wearing a white Louis Vuitton dress with gold embroidery.

Earlier Tuesday, the two stood side-by-side with the Macrons as Trump, 71, made a subtle

effort to hold his wife's hand, first extending his pinky finger and then gently giving her

hand a little shake before she finally placed her hand in his.

The moment, captured in footage by MSNBC, was analyzed by Twitter users who noticed

the first lady's reluctance to hold her husband's hand.

"Look at poor #Melania right hand trying to tell #Trump that he didn't dig deep enough,"

one tweeter joked.

"Poor Melania, she looked like she was holding back tears under her hat as she held Trump's

hand," said another.

This is not the first time the first lady has shown her resistance to holding Trump's

hand.

In May, the mother of one was caught on camera swatting away her husband's hand during

a trip to Tel Aviv, Israel.

A similar incident occurred in February when the two departed the White House for a trip

to Ohio — the president attempted and failed to make hand contact with his wife.

The striking accessory stole the show as Mrs. Trump and French First Lady Brigitte Macron

— both in white skirt suits — joined their husbands on the White House South Lawn for

a military welcome ceremony.

The first lady's white suit is from the Michael Kors Collection and costs $2,195,

according to CNN.

The outlet said the hat was also from the Michael Kors Collection hat, but a new pool

report says it seems that "Michael Kors is not taking credit for the hat."

Nunes Announces FBI Evidence That Will End The Investigation On Trump - Duration: 2:48.

Nunes Announces FBI Evidence That Will End The Investigation On Trump

Why the Democrats chose to use Russia as the scapegoat for their 2016 election loss is

completely baffling.

After all, Russians and Democrats share the same economic ideals of socialism, and both

use terms like "worker's rights" and "equality" as a smokescreen to confiscate

people's wealth to give it to themselves.

But since they still can't accept the fact that the American people did not want Hillary

Clinton, they have to keep latching onto this narrative, in the hopes that they will eventually

uncover something they can use to impeach President Trump.

Still, this expensive and frivolous investigation begs an important question: how did the idea

that Russia meddled in our election even begin?

It's an important question, and one that too few have been asking.

But one Congressman has been looking into it, and his findings could stop the entire

witch hunt in its tracks.

From Fox Business:

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said Sunday his review of FBI and Justice

Department "electronic communication" documents shows no intelligence was used to

begin the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during

the 2016 election.

"We now know that there was no official intelligence that was used to start this investigation.

We know that Sidney Blumenthal and others were pushing information into the State Department.

So we're trying to piece all that together and that's why we continue to look at the

State Department," Nunes told Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures."

Nunes is now turning the tables on the Left and is investigating the State Department

for their "major irregularities" regarding how information wound up in the hands of the

FBI.

He believes Blumenthal and other Clinton loyalists were behind it all, and continue to steer

the investigation.

Due to this mounting pile of evidence proving Trump is innocent, the president can and should

fire Mueller and his whole team without worry from Congress.

The real question is, when is Attorney General Jeff Sessions going to indict Hillary and

those around her for their crimes?

Rep. DeSantis recently sent a letter to Sessions cosigned by ten colleagues calling for an

investigation into several Obama-era officials for potential violations of federal statutes.

Former FBI Director James Comey, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney

General Loretta Lynch, former Acting Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe, FBI Agent Peter

Strzok and FBI Counsel Lisa Page, are among the names on the list of people who are accused

of abusing our legal system for political purposes.

The sooner the fake Trump-Russia collusion story ends, the sooner the real investigations

can begin.

Melania And Ivanka Trump Impress The Glamour As The FLOTUS And President Hosts At State Dinner - Duration: 2:58.

Melania and Ivanka Trump Bring the Glamour With Dramatic State Dinner Looks.

For the Trump administration's first state dinner, Melania Trump and Ivanka Trump came

dressed to impress.

The FLOTUS and President Donald Trump's eldest daughter arrived Tuesday to the event honoring

French president Emmanuel Macron in stylish ensembles fresh off the runway.

Melania paid tribute to the City of Light in a sleeveless, haute couture gown by Chanel,

which featured a sheer neckline and shimmery silver bodice.

The glamorous dress was originally featured as a jumpsuit during the French fashion house's

Spring 2018 show, and it's presumed Melania's version was custom made.

Earlier today, the fashionista turned heads in a statement-making hat and crisp Michael

Kors suit.

Meanwhile, the First Daughter picked an American label for the official gathering.

Ivanka was all smiles alongside husband Jared Kushner in a polka dot Rodarte dress.

The ballerina-inspired tulle gown complete with a ruffled skirt retails for upwards of

$12,000, and was previously worn by Millie Bobby Brown and Kirsten Dunston the red carpet.

Ivanka Trump pulled out all the stops in a $14,600 dress as her father hosts his first

ever state dinner for the French president.

She was accompanied by her husband and Trump senior adviser Jared Kushner in a tuxedo as

they were photographed in the Booksellers Area of the White House heading to the dinner.

President Donald Trump and his wife Melania were exchanged hugs and kisses with President

Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte on the steps of the White House ahead of the glitzy

state dinner.

Melania stole the show in a Chanel haute couture silver gown that had been embroidered with

crystals and sequins.

The Trumps and Macrons then headed inside for the festivities.

The White House showed off the finishing touches of first lady Melania Trump's decor on Monday

night, from the place-setting to the giant flower arrangements greeting guests.

Reporters were briefly allowed into the White House and were greeted by gold table settings,

gold silverware, gold candlesticks, gold wine glasses, gold chairs – situated elegantly

around bouquets of green and white flowers – in the candlelit state dining room.

At each of the place settings was a menu with the White House seal and the French fleur-de-lis,

which were also in gold.

Just outside the state dining room, the first lady went with a different theme, using some

1,200 cherry blossoms in giant black vases that would greet guests as they entered.

Earlier on Monday, the White House had released some details about the dinner, including the

menu.

Just months ago, President Trump was talking about "fire and fury," and taunting Kim Jong-un,

whom he called "Little Rocket Man."

But on Tuesday, the U.S. leader had some remarkably warm words for Kim... as the two get ready

for their summit.

Lee Seung-jae reports.

President Trump,... who used to threaten and belittle North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at

every opportunity, went out of his way to praise Kim on Tuesday,... calling him "very

open" and "very honorable" ahead of their summit set for some time in May or June.

"Kim Jong-un, he really has been very open and I think very honorable from everything

we're seeing."

Trump added that the U.S.-North Korea summit will happen very soon,... and that the North

would also like to have the meeting as soon as possible.

At a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron,... Trump again touted his

administration's "maximum pressure" campaign against North Korea,... saying the economic

and diplomatic sanctions were the toughest the U.S. has ever imposed on any nation.

Asked what he means in seeking the complete denuclearization of the North,... Trump said

the answer was "very simple".

"It means they get rid of their nukes.

Very simple.

They get rid of their nukes and nobody else would say it be very easy for me to make a

simple deal and claim victory.

I don't want to do that.

I want them to get rid of their nukes."

President Trump, who's known to go back and forth on his words,... previously mentioned

that he's willing to leave the table during the U.S.-North Korea summit if he's not satisfied

with Pyongyang's willingness to denuclearize.

However, President Trump said he believes the two sides have a chance of doing something

very special with respect to North Korea,... which would be quote "good for them, good

for us, good for everybody."

While the date and location for the highly anticipated talks have yet to be finalized,...

observers say Friday's inter-Korean summit should be the stepping stone that moves the

Trump-Kim meeting from a strong possibility to reality.

TRUMP DROPS THE HAMMER ON CALIFORNIA – Gov. Jerry Brown Has Public Meltdown - Duration: 13:56.

TRUMP DROPS THE HAMMER ON CALIFORNIA – Gov. Jerry Brown Has Public Meltdown

California Governor Jerry Brown thought he was above the law when he defied President

Donald Trump to declare his state to be a sanctuary state.

Unfortunately for Brown, however, he just learned he was dead wrong.

Trump dropped the hammer on the "sanctuary state" of California this week when Attorney

General Jeff Sessions filed a lawsuit against the state's immigration policies.

Brown responded by having a pathetic meltdown at a press conference in which he accused

Sessions of catering to Trump and to his conservative base.

"This is really unprecedented for the chief law enforcement officer of the United States

to come out to California and act more like Fox News than a law enforcement officer.

This is a political stunt," Brown said, according to The Hill.

"We know the Trump administration is full of liars.

They've pled guilty already to the special counsel.

This is basically going to war against the state of California, the engine of the American

economy.

It's not wise, it's not right, and it will not stand."

The lawsuit filed by Sessions on Tuesday targets three California laws aimed at protecting

undocumented immigrants.

The first law requires employers to notify employees if immigration authorities are going

to conduct enforcement operations on the job site, while the second law allows California's

Department of Justice to inspect federal detention facilities where undocumented immigrants are

held.

The third law stops state and local law enforcement officers from cooperating with federal immigration

authorities to transfer or facilitate detentions of undocumented immigrants in state custody.

This specific law is what Trump's supporters have said makes California a sanctuary jurisdiction

for undocumented immigrants.

Trump's Department of Justice said in court documents that these three laws "have the

purpose and effect of making it more difficult for federal immigration officers to carry

out their responsibilities in California."

"California is using every power it has, and some it doesn't, to frustrate federal

law enforcement," Sessions told a gathering of officers in Sacramento.

"So you can be sure I'm going to use every power I have to stop them."

He went on to say that California was trying to nullify the law.

"There is no nullification.

There is no secession.

Federal law is the supreme law of the land.

I would invite any doubters to go to Gettysburg, to the tombstones of John C. Calhoun and Abraham

Lincoln.

This matter has been settled," Sessions said.

Brown lost his mind at this, saying that Sessions' speech was "unbecoming" of the nation's

chief law enforcement officer.

The governor then suggested that Sessions is trying to return to Trump's good graces

after a rocky first year in which Trump and Sessions developed a serious rift in their

once-close relationship.

"I assume, and this is pure speculation, that Jeff thinks that Donald will be happy

with him," Brown said.

"Let's face it, the Trump White House is under siege.

[Special counsel Robert] Mueller is closing in.

There are more indictments to come."

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D) pledged that his office will vigorously

defend the three laws.

"The lawsuit challenges some of our state laws, which are again fully constitutional

and provide for the safety and welfare of all of our people," Becerra said.

"The 10th Amendment provides California with the right to decline to participate in

civil immigration enforcement."

He went on to say that Trump's DOJ opened itself to the discovery process, which would

allow California lawyers to dig into the internal debate over the lawsuit, which could drag

on for years.

"This lawsuit is going to last a lot longer than the Trump administration," Brown ominously

concluded.

Trump blasts Iran nuclear deal as 'insane' as Macron urges U.S. not to pull out - Duration: 2:03.

U.S. President Donald Trump has again denounced the Iran nuclear deal, hinting at the possibility

of Washington pulling out of the 2015 agreement.

His comments have sparked concern in some quarters that they may deter North Korea from

working out a nuclear agreement with U.S. with their summit a matter of weeks away.

Ro Aram reports.

At a joint press conference on Tuesday with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, President

Trump branded the Iran deal "insane" and "ridiculous."

He also warned Tehran against restarting its nuclear program.

"The Iran deal was a terrible deal.

We paid $150 billion, we gave $1.8 billion in cash.

That's actual cash - barrels of cash.

It's insane, it's ridiculous, it should have never been made, but we will be talking about

it…..

It won't be so easy for them to restart.

They're not going to be restarting anything, they restart it, they're going to have big

problems - bigger than they've ever had before…"

The 2015 deal was reached during the Obama administration to curb Iran's nuclear program

in exchange for eased sanctions.

President Macron agreed the deal had its downsides and that a new agreement should be made.

But he urged the U.S. not to pull out yet as it still allowed some control over Iran's

nuclear program until the year 2025.

Some watchers have warned that Trump's renewed criticism of the pact may also hinder chances

of working out a nuclear deal with North Korea, especially at a time when Pyongyang is warming

to the idea of denuclearization.

They say that, if Kim Jong-un sees that President Trump cannot be trusted to honor the Iran

deal, then he could assume Trump can't be trusted with a possible nuclear agreement

with North Korea.

That would put any chance for meaningful talks on denuclearization in jeopardy before they

even begin.

Trump still supports Jackson to lead the VA - Duration: 0:51.

Ronny Jackson, the embattled nominee to lead the Veterans Affairs Department, says he's

not stepping aside.

But if he changes his mind, President Trump might have just given him a way out.

"But the fact is, I wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't do it.

What does he need it for?"

During a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump was asked whether he

still supports Jackson.

Trump insisted he still wanted the White House doctor to lead the VA.

But he said the pressure of the nomination process might not be worth it.

"I don't want to put a man through a process like this.

It's too ugly and too disgusting.

So we'll see what happens.

He'll make a decision."

After "serious allegations" from Jackson's past surfaced, his confirmation hearing with

the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs was postponed.

A new date has not been announced.

Defense Secretary Becomes Trump's Babysitter To Prevent Needless Wars - Duration: 2:34.

According to a new report by the New Yorker, Defense Secretary James Mattis has essentially

become Donald Trump's babysitter and in his role as babysitter to the President of the

United States, he has often clashed with other members of the Trump administration both current

and former, including H. R. McMaster. In fact, McMaster at one point had said that Mattis'

withholding of information from Donald Trump bordered on insubordination. Here's the information

that Mattis was keeping from Donald Trump in his role as babysitter.

He was not telling him every possible military strategy that could be invoked in any given

situation around the globe. Basically what Mattis was trying to do, was limit Donald

Trump's options so that he didn't go and launch even more missile strikes or send missiles

over to North Korea. He wanted Donald Trump to have the fewest available options that

would result in the least bad scenario for the President of the United States. And that

pissed off people like H.R. McMaster. I'm sure it pisses off guys like John Bolton,

who want to just bomb ever country on the planet and then wait and see what happens

after that, maybe send a few more missiles, if there're any survivors anywhere.

So Mattis in his official role as babysitter to the President is only withholding information

because he understands how dangerous the President of the United States truly is. This is a story

that really should frighten everyone.

We know that people in the Trump administration don't tend to last very long. Mattis has been

there for quite some time now and his days could be numbered, especially with this new

report coming out. If Donald Trump knows the truth, if he learns the truth that Mattis

is not telling him everything that he could be telling him, then yeah, I have to imagine

he's going to be kicked out of that White House pretty soon. And then you're going to

get somebody coming in, hell, maybe John Bolton will take up that role too, telling Donald

Trump about every possible scenario that could play itself out and giving Donald Trump hundreds

of different options to deal with hostile countries or countries we just don't like

around the globe. And that isn't going to end well for anyone.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders Admits She Has NO Clue What Trump Is Talking About - Duration: 4:45.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders had a very rough Monday press conference.

During that press conference, she was pressed repeatedly about a tweet that the president

had sent out Wednesday of the week before, where he referred to a "Breeding concept among

illegal immigrants," allegedly in "Sanctuary cities in the state of California."

So, obviously members of the press wanted some answers.

What does this mean?

What is the president trying to say?

And so they asked Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and her responses were completely what you

would expect from Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Take a look.

Ask you about a tweet that the president put out last week.

He tweeted a lot over the weekend, but last week he was talking about sanctuary cities

in California and saying "There's a revolution going on in California.

So many sanctuary areas want out of this ridiculous crime invested and breeding concept."

We haven't had a chance to ask you about that tweet.

When he used the word breeding, was he making a derogatory term about Latino's in California

that they breed a lot, or that they're prone to breeding?

No, he's talking about the problem itself, growing and getting bigger.

[inaudible 00:01:15].

Sorry, I've answered a couple.

I want to follow up on [inaudible 00:01:18].

When you said breeding, the president was very clear in his statement about this issue,

he said in a tweet "There's a revolution going on in California.

So many sanctuary areas want out of this ridiculous crime invested and breeding concept."

What did he mean by breeding?

Again, the president has recognized that this is a major problem, and a lot of people, even

in California, want to see the issue of sanctuary cities addressed.

And the president's doing what he can to do that.

But what does breeding mean to this president?

Because when you think of breeding, you think of animals breeding, populating.

I'm not going to begin to think what you think.

Certainly, I think that it can mean a lot of things to a lot of people.

But the president's talking about a growing problem and I addressed that with Jim, I don't

have anything else to add.

Just one quick question.

I want you just to define what the president meant about breeding.

To be specific, he's not talking about people having babies, yes?

Not that I'm aware of, I'd have to ask him to dig into that deeper.

[inaudible 00:02:19].

I just said not that I'm aware of, and I would have to ask him to be more specific.

One of the greatest parts about those clips is the fact that she just gets increasingly

more frustrated as the questions continue, until she's eventually like you know what,

I don't know, I don't know.

I don't know what the hell this guy meant, I don't even like my job, I don't want to

be here.

Can I just go now?

I mean yeah, she didn't say that, but you can hear it in that voice.

She is so pissed off about what the president says on Twitter, because she is the one that

has to go out there and try to interpret it for the press in a way that's going to both

appease members of the press, and the president himself.

Because if she says the wrong thing, if she misinterprets what he's trying to say, she's

going to lose her job.

And in this particular instance, there's really not a whole lot you can say.

That term breeding concept was meant by the president to invoke an image of animals.

These people are not actually people to him.

And he can try to play it off, she can try to play it off, but we know what he meant

and why he used that term.

This is dog whistle politics folks, normally Donald Trump is a little bit more overt with

it, but this time he decided to play it cool, and it worked.

But Sarah Huckabee Sanders, if you want to watch the full press conference.

There's also one point where somebody asks as a follow up "I want to ask you about another

one of Donald Trump's tweets."

And she just rolls her eyes and looks away for a moment.

It's hilarious, this woman hates her job.

She hates having to go out there every single day and defend these insane tweet by the president

of the United States.

But she believes in them, she believes in the things she's out there saying.

She believes the things her crazy father says on Fox News.

So I have no sympathy for her whatsoever.

If she actually hated this job, she could easily walk away and go find a new position,

possibly on the Fox and Friends couch, as a regular contributor.

But instead, she's making the choice to go out there every day and be confronted by an

angry public that wants to know what the hell the president is talking about.

Trump's Forbes 400 Fib - Between the Scenes | The Daily Show - Duration: 2:40.

- Every day we find out something new about Donald Trump

that doesn't shock me but it's interesting

to put all the pieces together.

It's like a well written unnecessary episode of Scandal.

That's what it feels like because we're always

finding out new things.

Like to find out that the guy lied his way onto Forbes

and then lied his way from Forbes and then lied after.

You go like, so everything, every single thing

that he does is just like lying all the way through it.

And I know some people would get angry and be like,

oh, the lying and I can't believe it's fraudulent,

but I also go, the fact that Donald Trump

could get bank loans just using a Forbes article.

Two things, one, Forbes, you guys don't, you don't check?

Like, really?

That's all you're supposed to do as Forbes for me.

That's your only job is to just check if the people

have the money.

And if all Trump has to do is phone you with a fake voice

and be like, I have the money, I mean, he has the money.

Like, that's all and that's how people get on the list?

And then what makes it worse is they go like,

he possibly got money and loans.

Who's giving Donald Trump a loan?

If ever there was a definition of white privilege for me

it's walking into a bank with a magazine and being like,

here, page four...

You see page four, this is,

this is how much money I have.

Can you imagine like a black entertainer

try to pull that move?

Just walked in with like Ebony magazine and they were like,

yeah, so about that loan, um,

I don't know if you notice on page seven,

I'm looking real fly so, I mean, what do you say?

Just like, no man, why you giving him the loan?

It's ridiculous.

It also sort of makes you understand how and why

Donald Trump uses the phrase "fake news."

Because for so long, Donald Trump was instrumental

in making fake news so in his head he sees the news

as fake because he contributed to making it fake.

So he goes like, I've made so many fake stories.

I was John Barron, I was, he played like another character

as well where he lied about his relationships.

He said he dated supermodels that he didn't date.

He planted stories about himself.

But he saw the fruit so he went, I can call a reporter,

the reporter's not really gonna check,

they're gonna print the story, and I can make fake news.

So now as President he goes like, guys, it's all fake.

And you're like, how do you know?

and he's like, (stammering) I just know, I know.

He can't tell you how he knows but he's like,

no, it's fake guys.
