Tom Cotton: The American People Want �Trump�s Vision of Immigration Policy, Not Lindsey

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton is once again defending the Trump administration�s immigration policy

amid attacks from within the Republican Party.

The Arkansas Republican has endorsed what Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called a �hard-edged

approach� to immigration, blaming Cotton specifically for influencing the White House

position that contributed to a partial government shutdown.

�The Tom Cotton approach has no viability here,� Graham said. �He�s become sort

of the Steve King of the Senate.�

King, a Republican congressman representing Iowa, has frequently criticized programs like

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which offer some protection for individuals who

entered the country illegally.

Cotton responded with a statement of his own, defending his counterpart in the House while

casting his own stones at Graham.

�The difference between Steve King and Lindsey Graham is that Steve King can actually win

an election in Iowa,� Cotton told reporters.

He argued that it was Trump�s message that won the 2016 presidential election, so it

should be his policies that the GOP embraces.

�Immigration was a major issue there and the American people and especially Republican

primary voters made it clear that they wanted Donald Trump�s vision of immigration policy,

not Lindsey Graham�s,� Cotton said. �He didn�t make it to the starting line and

he didn�t even make it off the kiddie table in the debates.�

Graham, however, insisted that �there�s just no market� for an agenda that would

require eradicating DACA and other widely supported programs in the interest of securing

immigration reform.

�I like Tom, but on immigration, he�s putting something on the table that there�s

just no market for in phase one,� he said. �As soon as the White House understands

there�s a bandwidth here for phase one that will include border security and DACA and

a few other things, we�ll get a deal.�

Prior to the government shutdown, Cotton criticized Democrats who emphasized immigration issues

as part of those negotiations.

�And the Democrats are saying they�re going to reject that bill because they not

only want amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, but they also don�t want to

take steps to secure our border and stop future flows of illegal immigration,� he said in

a recent Fox News interview. �I just don�t think that�s something that�s going to

fly with the American people.�

He went on to assert that a number of Democrats �don�t want to shut down the government

and deprive American citizens of government services � to include health insurance for

poor kids � because they don�t get an amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.�

Among those Democrats up for re-election this year, Cotton said he did not believe that

was �a position that they want to take to the voters in November.�

Trump to High-Profile Illegal Immigrant Activists: The Free Ride Is Over

Immigration authorities have detained in recent weeks two prominent activists who are themselves

illegal immigrants, demonstrating the Trump administration�s commitment to expand the

pool of deportable aliens.

The arrested men have openly lived in the U.S. for years and have until recently enjoyed

a de facto immunity from deportation, thanks to their status as high-profile immigrants�

rights activists.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have denied the arrests are politically motivated,

but they clearly show that immigration agents are now emboldened to arrest even the most

connected of illegal immigrants.

Both men are leaders of the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City, a network of religious

and social organizations that works to prevent the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants.

ICE officers first detained Jean Montrevil, a Haitian national who had lived in the U.S.

since 1986 despite having served a prison term for drug possession that resulted in

a deportation order.

Montrevil, who co-founded the New Sanctuary coalition, was taken into custody in early

January near his home in Queens, touching off a firestorm of protest.

Activists accused ICE of breaking an �understanding� that Montrevil would not be arrested while

he appealed his order of removal.

Despite the public outcry, ICE deported Montrevil to Haiti on Tuesday.

The week before Montrevil�s removal, ICE arrested Ravidath Ragbir during his check-in

with officials at the ICE office in New York.

The executive director of New Sanctuary and the public face of immigration activism in

New York City, Ragbir came to the U.S. in 1991 as a legal permanent resident, but he

was ordered deportation in 2006 following a wire fraud conviction for which he served

a two-and-a-half year prison sentence.

In 2011, the New York field office of ICE granted Ragbir a stay of removal.

Then, last April, the Trump administration granted an extension of that stay, but only

until Jan. 19, according to The New York Times.

Ragbir�s fellow immigration activists have painted his arrest as an �arbitrary and

cruel� detention.

Alina Das, Ragbir�s attorney, says he would not have been targeted under the Obama administration,

which prioritized deportation of illegal immigrants who were public safety threats or who had

committed �serious� crimes.

The severity of Ragbir�s offense is debatable, but his conviction for wire fraud in a $400,000

mortgage embezzlement scheme was upheld in in 2002 by 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals Judge

Maryanne Trump Barry, President Donald Trump�s sister.

Since that ruling, Ragbir has used his prominence in the activist community to successfully

obtain several stays of removal.

But the Trump administration�s more expansive immigration enforcement priorities appear

to have closed the door for good.

Ragbir�s wife Amy Gottlieb, an immigration lawyer, has accused the Trump administration

of singling out her husband because of his outspoken activism.

�Like Jean (Montrevil) and thousands of other immigrants caught in ICE raids, Ravi

threatens no one,� she wrote in a New York Times op-ed published Thursday.

�On the contrary, he and other immigrant leaders have lead their communities with dignity

and courage during a brutal time.

That�s why they were snatched � and why ICE wants to deport them�

Still, ICE appears to be set on deporting Ragbir to his native Trinidad, saying last

week in a statement that he had �exhausted his petitions and appeals through the immigration

courts, the Board of Immigration appeals, and the U.S. District Court.�

On Thursday, ICE transferred Ragbir from a detention facility in Miami to New York while

he fights the order of removal.

At midnight on Friday, the government was sent into a temporary shutdown after the Senate

failed to approve a short-term spending bill.

Democrats have blamed President Donald Trump for the shutdown, saying he has refused to

bargain with them.

However, no sooner had the left begun hurling their baseless accusations at POTUS, Eric

Trump came forward to unleash Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's absolute worst nightmare.Republican

senators needed 60 votes on Friday to move forward with a bill that would have funded

the government for 30 days, but they came up short.

Of course, the Democrats have remained adamant that the resulting shutdown is the fault of

the Republicans who refused to bargain with them on the issue of illegal immigration.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blamed President Trump outright, saying, "He's

turned blowing up bipartisan agreements into an art form."

Schumer added, "Negotiating with President Trump is like negotiating with Jell-O."Of

course, this is far from the truth.

The Democrats are the ones who chose illegal immigrants over the American citizens they

are supposed to represent.

The Democrats have opted for a government shutdown, rather than a compromise, in order

to further their own agenda.

In reality, the Democrats chose politics over Americans.

During the hours leading up to the government shutdown, President Donald Trump invited Senate

Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., to the White House to negotiate the outline of

a deal, which both sides believed was in reach.

After several more conversations during the day, the deal fell apart and the Senate failed

to pass a measure to keep the government funded.

"During the meeting, in exchange for strong [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] protections,

I reluctantly put the border wall on the table for the discussion," Schumer said from the

Senate floor.

"Even that was not enough to entice the president to finish the deal."

coming from the left is the president's son, Eric Trump, who called into Judge Jeanine

Pirro's show on Fox News on Saturday to weigh in on the government shutdown.

"People see through it," Eric said.

"I mean, people have seen a year that's incredible.

It's been filled with nothing but the best for our country, 'America First' policies,

and they're happy with where we are as a nation," he added.

"I mean, my father has had incredible momentum," he went on.

"He has gotten more done in one year than arguably any president in history.

How do they divert from that message?

How do they save their own party when they don't have any leadership, they don't

have any good candidates out there, they don't have a message of their own?

How do they do that?

They obstruct, they distract, they try and place blame."

Indeed, the Democratic Party is imploding because they have no leadership, no potential,

and no message.

They have seemingly made it their sole purpose to obstruct President Donald Trump, and that

is not a purpose at all.

The Democrats have proven one thing above all else with this senseless government shutdown;

namely, that their party is a total joke.

They ought to just start preparing themselves now for another staggering loss not only in

2020 but in this year's midterms as well because with each one of these bone-headed

political stunts, their chances of winning back the White House or even a congressional

seat become slimmer and slimmer.

CNN dominated the "Fake News Awards" last night, taking home 4 out of the 11 worst "fake

news" reports for 2017.

Of course, this caused CNN's White House correspondent Jim Acosta to go into a major

meltdown.

Acosta immediately freaked out and pulled a shocking stunt, hoping to bust the president

and make him look bad.

Instead, Acosta's crying like a baby after President Donald Trump whacked him hard, making

him look like a fool.

When is he going to learn that going off half-cocked in anger at Trump is not a good idea?

This is exactly what happened late last night after the GOP posted the president's "Fake

News Awards."

The CNN journalist has been making a mockery of himself in the daily press conferences,

and it seems the pressure built up and caused Acosta to finally blow a gasket.

Twitchy reports, "Sad Jim Acosta is sad.

Probably because he knew he would be winning several awards in Trump's 'Fake News Awards,'

and so many people wanted to see him being 'honored' for claiming that CNN is real

news that the GOP site went down.

Which was admittedly embarrassing but they did eventually fix it.

But not quite as embarrassing as Mr. Sourpuss himself tweeting about it."

The photo Acosta is pointing to with the link in his tweet only backfired on him, making

him look like a pathetic fool.

CNN's Jim Acosta posted this pic hoping it would make President Trump look bad.

media as Trump supporters and haters were awaiting the president's "Fake News Awards."

In fact, "Fake News Awards" was trending on Twitter most of the night, despite Twitter's

management team attempting to flood the feed with anti-Trump memes.

Make no mistake, Jim Acosta was waiting with bated breath, as he proves with his tweet.

Except, what he fails to realize is just what a huge impact Trump's "Fake News Awards"

were.

In fact, poor Jim's own tweet proves it.

President Trump's "Fake News Awards" were such a huge success it was the "weight"

of that success that crashed the GOP website.

Trump is such a marketing genius, he crashed the GOP website which was flooded with Americans

clicking on the link to find out who "won."

The president went over the mainstream media's head and devised an event that left the media

with no choice but to have to report on their own horrendous fake news reports on Trump.

Jim Acosta is too dense to even figure that out, so he fell into Trump's trap by tweeting

out that "Trump crashed the GOP website," bringing even more attention to the fake news.

What an idiot.

But, there's more.

Apparently, Acosta was on a panel at the time the "Fake News Awards" broke, and he had

this to say: "It's like the truth is on fire, and April [Ryan] and John [Roberts]

and I, we go into the White House every day and we're like firefighters putting out

the fire."

Acosta went on to say that the American people are being deceived by an administration that

"would rather all of us watch certain programs on John's network [Fox News]."

The elite media is completely out of touch with real Americans, and you could say that

some of these talking heads almost seem to resent them.

Americans sense it, and they were sick and tired of CNN's White House Correspondent,

so they sounded off on Twitter.

The insults aimed at Acosta, which he brought on himself, just kept coming.

Jim Acosta will never get it.

He actually believes all the mainstream media lies about President Donald Trump because

he suffers from a horrendous case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, like many of his colleagues.

We saw this when the press corp lost their minds, questioning the president's physician.

It was just inconceivable to them that Trump might eat McDonald's and be fit as a fiddle.

It blew their minds, that they could be wrong.

Still, they refuse to stop their own insanity and report some truth.

CNN's Jim Acosta is simply just not that bright.

He fell into President Trump's trap and was the poster boy for this year's "Fake

News Awards."

Good for Jim, he really worked hard to be recognized as the "Crybaby Journalist of

the Year."
