Trump's Criticism of Anthem Protests Infuriates Military Veteran - Duration: 8:56.

Trump's Criticism of Anthem Protests Infuriates Military Veterans Who Fought 'Precisely' for

that Right

President Trump upped the ante on the controversy surrounding national anthem protests initiated

by quarterback Colin Kaepernick in vilifying those sitting out the song as sons of bitches

on Friday night; but, the instigator-in-chiefs shaming not only backfired, his comments earned

severe criticism from a source the billionaire apparently hadnt considered: members of

the military.

Three generations of my family, serving the USA, in harms way, wrote Green Beret

Michael Sand father of a U.S. Army officer who served in Afghanistan and son of a World

War II veteran in a post to Facebook Sunday.

Three vastly different enemies, but enemies who shared one common trait.

ALL of them stifle free speech.

All of them bully, degrade and terrorize those who hold opposing views and who peacefully

express them.

All of them are intolerant and demand loyalty to the leader.

I can tell you, speaking for three generations of my family, it is PRECISELY for men like

Kaepernick, and his right to peacefully protest injustice, that we were willing to serve.

As if Trumps original contention hadnt caused enough outrage, the moguls assault

on the peoples right to protest only amplified early Monday morning, following Sundays

massive demonstrations during the national song by NFL players and coaches who sat,

locked arms, or remained in the locker room as well as by a major league baseball

player over the weekend, as he tweeted and retweeted posts containing the hashtag #StandForOurAnthem.

This has nothing to do with race, Trump stated Monday in an attempt to deflect concerns

pertaining to racist overtones in his condemnations but seeming to ignore that Kaepernicks

protest indeed centers around police violence against Black Americans.

This has to do with respect for our country.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick stunned American sports fans in 2016 by sitting

down for the singing of the national anthem before National Football League games rather

than standing with right hand on his chest, as tradition would dictate in protest

against unchecked violence by law enforcement against minorities.

Despite the fact protest against injustice and State power has long been considered the

duty of patriots, millions, including Trump, have employed social media as a platform to

excoriate Kaepernick and the other players, the protest, and what it putatively means

to be a good citizen.

But, undeterred by resounding consternation from the president of the protest as un-American,

a number of service members have spoken out in support of those sitting out the anthem

whether or not they agree with peoples motives.

As one 97-year-old World War II veteran and grandfather declared plainly, those kids

have every right to protest.

Posts from members of the U.S. military across several social media platforms concurred with

that sentiment, variously touting rights protected by the First Amendment free speech, free

expression, and the right of the people to petition government for redress of grievances,

for instance as particular concerns for defense of the nation, in their choice to

join the service.

Colin sat down and exercised his right to protest, which is something that I feel

like we all swore an oath to defend, asserted Iraq War and Navy veteran, Tom Baker, to Business

Insider, as the national anthem protests exploded into the spotlight last year.

BI catalogued a number of posts and statements from service members after Kaepernicks

protest finally began making headlines in late August 2016:

I also agree with the statements [Kaepernick] made, said one.

We dont respect the rights of black and brown people.

The whole narrative of, Youre disrespecting veterans and those who sacrificed is bullshit,

another intoned.

Another implored people defending the sacrifices of soldiers to consider advocating

for veterans rights and care for military returning home from duty or service, rather

than focusing on the anthem or flag, pointing out, If these people truly gave a shit

about us veterans they wouldve kicked down the doors on the Capitol and demanded a real

inquiry into the deaths at the [Department of Veterans Affairs] and the insane number

of veterans committing suicide.

Stoking the divide being the boon of the State, however, Trump continues masterfully manipulating

the publics emotional response to perceived injury to the United States through

its symbols and traditions to swell patriotism utterly blind to the nations multitude

of domestic issues in particular, the increasingly rogue police state and devastatingly

imperialist foreign activities.

Kaepernick doesnt hate America; he doesnt hate the flag; he doesnt hate police; he

does not wish ill of military members, their families, the president, nor anyone else.

In fact, it would behoove this fraught debate to be reminded the athlete sat down for the

Star Spangled Banner out of love for all people regardless of race, creed, or politics

and to call attention to stark disparities in treatment of minority communities which

make the United States an uneven playing field.

Racism as literally no one should need reminding remains quite alive and well.

Zito Madu of SBNation writes,

Kaepernick was protesting racism.

He kneeled during the anthem because he thought the United States was not living up to its

own ideals of freedom.

The form of racism that he was concerned with was police brutality.

Kaepernick thought that unarmed and harmless minorities, black people especially, shouldnt

be killed by the same police officers tasked with protecting them.

And the officers shouldnt do so with impunity.

Kaepernick kneeled as a plea for humanity.

He thought that human beings of a different race should be given the same respect, compassion,

and fair treatment as other human beings.

He wanted police officers to not profile or kill minorities in a disproportionate fashion.

He asked this because he loves the U.S. and knows that love isnt pretending that what

you love is perfect, but shows itself in wanting the object of your love to be the best version

of itself.

That plea for compassion, in a country that believes itself to be the greatest civilization,

is what is at the heart of all of this anger.

That people should be treated fairly seems like a mundane sentiment, or it would be if

the U.S. was more like the ideal of itself and not the work in progress that it is right

now.

Decades after the Civil Rights Movement turned disobedience into a most efficacious if peaceful

weapon, Americans still cannot reckon its infinitely-complex distribution of races,

nationalities, and beliefs with a Constitution vowing protection of the rights of all.

With tolerance at a premium, police brutality running rampant, and a commander-in-chief

hell bent on dividing the populace beyond repair, a protest as uncomplicated as Kaepernicks

must be accurately portrayed and denouncements of false information, forthcoming.

While sitting for the national anthem pains many to witness, the resonant pain ricocheting

from this nations egregiously racist past and manifesting in an interminable list of

Black people and other minorities slain by law enforcement without consequence remains

a bloody and festering wound one deafeningly ignored by Trump and the vast majority of

patriotism virtue-signalers.

Want to know whats unpatriotic?

Using your white privilege to avoid serving, citing bone spurs in the heel while

playing varsity tennis at college while others went.

Want to know what is antithetical to American values?

Using the most powerful pulpit in the land to incite violence against ANYONE,

continued Sand, the Green Beret, alluding to the presidents widely-condemned avoidance

of the draft during the Vietnam War.

Want to define disgraceful behavior?

Denigrating a man like Senator John McCains service and heroism while you sat home.

Want to respect the American flag?

Then respect the ideals for which it stands.

Bullying language and calling peaceful protesters sons of bitches who should be fired

arent among them.

Jared Kushner [ ivanka trump [ trump [ donald trump [ jared kushner woman ] - Duration: 1:51.

Jared Kushner's bad week just got a little weirder. On Sunday, Politico reported that the presidential son-in-law and adviser corresponded with top White House officials through a private email server (and he wasn't the only one).

On Monday, a prankster impersonating the real estate scion — apparently convincingly — asked his lawyer what to do with pictures "featuring adult content" he said he had received. The lawyer responded: "Don't delete. Don't send to anyone. Let's chat in a bit."

While reports about Kushner's emails are not analogous with those on Hillary Clinton's, they nonetheless raised questions about security and hypocrisy in the chaotic Trump White House, from which Trump ridiculed Clinton for her use of a private email server long after Election Day.

The news on Wednesday was different, but nonetheless eyebrow-raising: When Jared Kushner registered to vote in 2009, he apparently identified his sex as female.

[On Jared Kushner's emails, the real problem is the media's hypocrisy] Democratic opposition research group American Bridge spotted the error, which was first reported by Wired.

IRS Hands Over Info On Trump Officials To Special Prosecutor - Duration: 3:40.

According to a new report on CNN, the IRS is officially handing over documents to special

prosecutor Robert Mueller in his investigation into possible collusion and criminal activity

in the Trump campaign and the Trump administration.

This latest information shows what they believe is that Mueller is looking into the IRS tax

returns from people like Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn.

Manafort worked on the campaign.

Flynn worked in the administration.

They're trying to find out what kind of payments either person received from groups like Russia

or Turkey, or any other foreign entity.

However, we do not know for sure that those are the people that Mueller got information

on, and we do not know if Mueller received information from Donald Trump's tax returns.

Right now this is all still speculation, but we do know that both former and current members

of both the Trump campaign and the Trump administration have been targeted, and their information

from the IRS has been handed over the Robert Mueller.

According to reports, what he's seeking is banking records and real estate records.

It's that second one that leads many people to believe that he actually is looking at

Donald Trump's tax returns.

One of the things we know that came out recently was one of Donald Trump's associates that

he bought some property with and took out some loans with up North had actually been

convicted on criminal charges.

Trump knew this but still sought a loan with this person, which is highly illegal.

That could be one of the things that Mueller is looking into, because that definitely would

point to some criminal activity on Trump's part that actually has nothing to do with

the original intent of this investigation.

Robert Mueller has a special power that was granted to him by the interim AG when he was

appointed.

He is allowed to pursue any form of criminal evidence in this investigation whether or

not it relates to the initial claim of collusion with the country of Russia, meaning if Mueller

uncovers something that he thinks might lead to a completely different financial crime

by anyone that's been swept up in this investigation, he is allowed to pursue that crime, as well,

in addition to the original investigation of collusion.

So don't think that just because Mueller's got Trump's tax returns and they don't show

that he colluded or received payments, don't think for a minute that that doesn't mean

Donald Trump can't be prosecuted for something else, because it absolutely does.

I think that's why Mueller is taking his time here, working with the IRS, trying to get

as much information as possible on as many people as possible, so that one day he can

walk into the Senate or walk into the White House or walk up to a podium for a press conference,

drop a file and say, "Hey, I've got 15 indictments in my hand for 15 different people.

Line up and come get them, Trump administration."

I think that's what most people in this country are hoping for at this point.

Why Trump's "HUGE Failure" Is A Massive Loss For His Enemies and A Shocking Change To Women's Rights - Duration: 11:48.

Sup you beautiful bastards hope your having

Fantastic Wednesday welcome back to the Philip DeFranco show and let's just jump into it.

And the first thing I want to talk about today is a killer clown

Story that has popped up in the news and no this is not a joke. It's not one of those prank videos where someone was dressed

As a clown just to freak someone else. It's a crazy story and actually starts in the 90s

What happened well may 26?

1990 Marlene Warren heard a knock at her door when she answered the door she found herself face-to-face with a clown holding flowers and balloons

And I mean the whole deal clown hair nose

outfit one of the balloons said you're the

Greatest, the other one had Snow White on it. And as Marlene went to accept the balloons and flowers the clown raised a gun and shot

Her in the face. And reportedly Marlene's two teenage sons along with some of their friends were witness to this well

She didn't die on the scene

She was taken to the hospital and she died two days later

And initially police suspected the husband Michael Warren this because friends and family said they're actually having problems with their marriage and so the police

investigate him

But they don't find any evidence that he was the one that murdered his wife instead what they uncovered was unrelated evidence of crimes he

committed at his car rental agency and so 1992

He was found guilty of 43 counts of odometer tampering grand theft and racketeering he served three years for this

He was then released and he disappeared in

1997 only to resurface in

2002 when he married Sheila Keene then in 2014 the clown murder case is reopened the old DNA they had was tested with new DNA

Technology and based off of that yesterday the Palm Beach County Sheriff's announced they arrested Sheila Keene for that

1990 murder. It turned out Sheila Keene had actually worked at the husband's car rental agency at the time of the murder and it also

Turns out the police have been told about an alleged affair between Sheila and Michael a few months after the incident

So there you go after 27 years it appears that her children are gonna get some closure

I mean imagine how horrible and crazy that is for them

I mean they they as teenagers watched their mom get killed by a clown their dad goes to jail on unrelated charges

He gets out and then apparently marries the woman that murdered their mother I was her stepmother

And then you find that out 27 years after it happened also

There's the question now of did the husband know or was it just this woman who made this choice this whole story just feels like

Too much, then really quickly let's talk about the Streamy Awards yesterday. And by now

You might have heard we didn't win show of the year. I cried myself to sleep. I actually didn't

Congratulations to Sugar Pine 7 of course the leader over there Stephen Suptic they're doing really cool stuff

I'm excited to see where it goes, and if I was going to lose to anyone

I'm happy it was them some of the other winners

We saw we had the breakout artist of the year that went to David Dobrik beating out the likes of Jake Paul. Best in comedy

We saw Liza Koshy beat out the likes of h3h3

Production as you imagine the internet had a lot of different opinions about that

That's also understandable considering how big of a space YouTube is I mean this situation we're talking specifically about h3h3 productions

and Liza Koshy

Maybe there's some crossover there and often what you'll see on the internet is people becoming massive with their pillar of followers that

Maybe just aren't into this other thing styles are different people's personal preferences are different, and there are a lot of other winners

I'm not gonna go through every category

I wanna leave this story on 2 notes the first being I want to thank everyone that supported the show whether with votes are

Just with your patience every time I was like hey. Do you want to vote for me after the first two pushes?

It was even annoying for me secondly

I realized this morning that the acceptance speech that I had written because I was scared that if we did win

I was gonna blank out on stage

I wrote it down actually works win or lose because it just serves as a way to say

Thank you to the people that I'm thankful to so if you want to check that out

I'll link to it down below. From that, I want to share some stuff

I love today and today in awesome brought to you by Phil.Ting.com

Ting of course the fantastic pay what you actually use no BS fees, no sketchy admin charges cell service. It's simple

They only charge you for what you use

It's six dollars per device and taxes. Ting customers on average pay just twenty six dollars a month for their one device if you want

To check it out like many from the nation already have go to Phil.Ting.com

And the first bit of Awesome is we got some badass

Trailers that have me so excited both for a movie and a series. The movie is called annihilation

It stars Natalie Portman, but here's the thing that just it has me locked in. It is written and directed by Alex Garland

I how can I say no to the guy that gave us Sunshine (highly underrated) 28 Days Later, Ex Machina. Yes, please?

And then we had a trailer for Waco which is going to be a six-part series all based on what happened in Waco

Texas back in 93 and we got a brand new meet Arnold answering the question everyone's asked what happens if you throw

Arnold's in a microwave spoiler alert

It's not a good thing that we got an honest trailer for Star Trek The Next Generation

Which actually separate from this does make me want to ask the question is the new Star Trek good?

Would you recommend it Star Trek discovery are you on board?

I haven't watched it yet if you want to see the full versions of everything

I just shared the secret link of the day anything at all links as always are in the description down below and in huge

International news Saudi Arabia is now going to allow women to drive. I know to a lot of you listening you're probably going

That's pretty fucking sad that that is progress, but hey for the area a win is a win

And hopefully this continues the snowball. And how this happened is last night

Saudi Arabia's King issued a decree to allow women to drive. And it's a huge deal because Saudi Arabia

I mean women have historically been by most modern standards oppressed in the country. For example they have guardianship laws

These laws dictate and much about a woman's life

Depending on the circumstances a woman needs to be accompanied by a male guardian

This is most often a husband, a father, sometimes a son. Sometimes they have to get paid drivers

This isn't just a small thing reportedly they're around six hundred

Thousand drivers in the country that are used for this most public activities

they need that guardian or at least a group of other women even some medical decisions need to be made by a

Guardian and in line with the strict guardianship laws women were not allowed to drive

What was amazing and I say amazing as in?

Ridiculous excuses for not allowing women to drive were crazy there were claims that men just wouldn't know how to handle

Oh, just blow their minds this would be the breakdown of the Saudi family and my personal favorite

And this is a real thing the claim that

Driving would be dangerous to women's ovaries and when I say women weren't allowed to drive

It's not like it was just frowned upon driving could land you in jail you could lose your job also all these years later

I have to just give respect to the women who first stood up for this right in 1990 there was the first-ever protest against the

Driving ban forty-seven women took part in it and drove around the capital all ended up getting arrested

I just want to point out that these women were badass motherfuckers

It's one thing to protest in America, and it's a whole other thing to protest in

1990 Saudi Arabia you may tweet that you don't give a fuck these women actually

Didn't give a fuck or actually they gave so much of a fuck that they didn't care what was going to happen to them they were

Going to protest this limp-dick woman-hating law and that original protest led to other

Protests throughout the years of women driving their cars now filming themselves doing it

What's really interesting is despite Saudi Arabia's history here the royal decree was very harsh in tone the royal decrees saying we take into

consideration the pros of

Allowing women to drive and the cons of banning them from driving it also referred to what the majority of the council of senior scholars

Agreed on which is that the original?

Islamic ruling in regards to women driving is to allow it and that those who have opposed it have done so based on excuses that

Are baseless and have no predominance of thought or paraphrase if you don't think women should have the right to drive you

Stupid so starting June 24th 2018 women will be officially allowed to apply for a license

This is a huge deal because it also appears to affect guardianship laws. Reportedly women will not need permission from a guardian here

You'll be allowed to apply

Receive and drive without a guardian present King outlined that a committee will be formed in the next few days and that committee will have

30 days to provide recommendations

About how to handle this to decree. Some of the things the committee has to consider this means there will be roughly seven point five

Million new drivers on the road police are also going to have to be retrained on how to deal with women

And they're rarely interact with non-related women in Saudi Arabia. What's interesting is most people have been publicly for this now

That's feel like I should maybe put a little asterisk on that part of that might be

Saudi Arabia despite it having a deeply conservative classic

Clerics a lot of those top clerics are on the payroll of the Saudi government and the Saudi government

Puts pressure on them to back the king or to be quiet and additionally prior to the announcement the government reportedly arrested two dozen clerics

And academics who would be critical of this change? Why exactly are we seeing this change in Saudi Arabia?

Well a lot of it can most likely be attributed to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and it may might sound familiar because we've talked

About this 32 year old heir to the throne before. And the big reason why is for years

He's outlined a plan on how to modernize Saudi Arabia. That and in the past year we've seen a big political shake-up

Where all of a sudden

he has a lot of influence a lot of what he's talked about is how to modernize Saudi Arabia as far as the economy and

society

Looking at the market

He seems aware that the oil can only take them so far for so long while allowing female drivers is a huge societal change for

Saudi Arabia it also might bring an economic boom reports say that there are many women capable of working who just refused to do so

Because of the driving law this because in addition to it just being a ridiculous hurdle to have to go through much of their salaries

Drained and it goes to the private drivers

That said it will be very interesting to see how the economy is affected by those private drivers

Not being as needed and so there you go while I still obviously have many

Many problems and concerns with Saudi Arabia at least we get some change. Hopefully like I said earlier

This is just the beginning of the snowball effect. Then let's talk about the really interesting Roy Moore and Luther Strange situation

this is a really weird and

Fascinating story so in Alabama there was a Republican

Runoff to find out who the Republican candidate would be to try and take Jeff Sessions old seat Jeff Sessions of course had to vacate

That seat so he could be the Attorney General Donald Trump had been really really pushing for Luthor Strange

Tweeting his support several times saying Alabama get out and vote for Luther strain

He has proven to me that he will never let you down MAGA. The election tomorrow in the great state of Alabama vote for senator

Luthor Strange tough on crime and border will

Never let you down Luther Strange has been shooting up in the Alabama polls since my endorsement finish the job vote today for big Luther

ultimately Luther Strange, the guy Trump backed

He lost. Moore one here

And he'll be a part of the special election against Democrat Doug Jones in December before all you Democrats start cheering

Yeah, Trump's guy didn't win. No let me talk about Roy Moore. While he may not have initially been Trump's a guy

I

Imagine if you're a Democrat you're not gonna like it. Roy Moore is a controversial former state Supreme Court justice

some of his best hits include in 2005

He said that homosexuality should be illegal "just behind because it's done behind closed doors

It can still be prohibited by state law do you know that bestiality?

The relationship between man and beast is prohibited in every state"

"Do you know that didn't I ask you this having sex with a cow" "No you didn't but its the same thing"

And to that of course people say well. That was 2005

Maybe he changed his opinion on it. Well to that

I would say we found a video it has incredibly low views, but it is him from 2015

So here's that "Do you still think that homosexuality should be illegal?"

"I think homosexuality should be illegal sodomy was declared illegal by the United States Supreme Court in

1987 it said there was no right under the Constitution to

enlarge the fundamental rights of

Homosexuals" In 2014 he reportedly wrote letters to all 50 state governors asking them to convene to ban gay marriage last September

He was actually suspended from Alabama Supreme Court is for failing to comply with the federal Supreme Court's ruling around gay marriage

Just keep in mind because Trump's guy lost you didn't win if anything this proves that the anti-establishment

Mindset goes way further than Donald Trump Luther Strange was supported by Mitch McConnell. He was supported by Donald Trump

There are millions of dollars thrown his way and the people of Alabama decided nah we're good

We're gonna go with Roy Moore. Roy Moore was the Steve Bannon candidate Steve Bannon even talking at his victory party

And it was Donald Trump who seemed to about-face. Trump deleting those previous tweets of support for Luther strange

And then tweeting "Congratulations to Roy Moore on his Republican primary win in Alabama Luther Strange started way back and ran a good race

Roy ,win in November!" Although as previously mentioned

It's in December so then he deleted that tweet and then posted a new one really I think in a small way this confirms

Kind of what some people have been saying and that is Donald Trump

isn't isn't the Republican candidate Donald Trump is and has been the weapon of the

Anti-establishment voter and while there will be a lot of people that follow him for the good, the bad, the ridiculous

Especially when his opponent is a liberal

They in large know what they want and will do what they want well that might give some Democrats

Hope that this is so this is a fractured party and when it comes to them having a common enemy they unite.

At least that's my personal take away and actually I'll pass the question off to you

Whether it be this this last story the first one anything in between what are your thoughts today? What are you thinking?

What Roy Moore and Donald Trump Have In Common: A Closer Look - Duration: 8:18.

-This week has been a perfect microcosm of the Trump era,

as President Trump fanned the flames

of cultural flash points, like the NFL protest,

a darling of the far-right, Judge Roy Moore,

won a GOP Senate primary in Alabama.

For more on this, it's time for "A Closer Look."

[ Cheers and applause ]

Trump, of course, began his feud with NFL players

who peacefully protest racial injustice last week

at a rally in Alabama.

In fairness, that's pretty much what you expect

when you hear the words "rally in Alabama."

Nobody hears, "There was a rally in Alabama,"

and goes, "Oh!

Was it for transgender adoption rights?"

[ Laughter ]

And yet, despite tweeting repeatedly

about the NFL and the anthem,

Trump insists he isn't obsessed with it.

Yesterday, at a joint press conference

with the prime minister of Spain,

he was asked if he was preoccupied with the issue

while he should be focusing on Puerto Rico

and offered this very confusing defense.

-To me, the NFL situation's a very important situation.

I've heard that before about was I preoccupied.

Not at all. Not at all.

I have plenty of time on my hands.

All I do is work.

-What? [ Laughter ]

You have plenty of time on your hands.

All you do is work?

One of those things can't be true.

[ Laughter ]

That's like saying, "I go on lots of dates.

All I do is play 'Grand Theft Auto.'"

[ Laughter ]

But here's the thing -- there's a reason

Trump is so much more interested in talking about the NFL

than, say, healthcare,

and the reason is, Trump knows nothing about policy.

Take his response to the crisis in Puerto Rico.

When he finally got around to talking about it on Tuesday,

Trump made sure to do two things --

claim credit for doing a great job

and demonstrate that he knows where Puerto Rico is,

and even that he messed up.

-We've worked very, very hard in Puerto Rico.

It's very tough, because it's an island.

In Texas, we can ship the trucks right out there,

and, you know, we can do --

We've gotten A-pluses on Texas and on Florida,

and we will also on Puerto Rico, but the difference is,

this is an island, sitting in the middle of an ocean,

and it's a big ocean.

It's a very big ocean.

-He sounds -- [ Laughter ]

He sounds like a kid who forgot to work on his oral report

and is just vamping, waiting for the bell to ring.

"Puerto Rico is in the ocean, which is a big ocean and salty.

It is a...big salty ocean."

[ Laughter and applause ]

And they're biggest export is -- Come on, 3:00!"

But every time Trump feels the chill of a policy failure,

he knows he can warm himself up by stoking the fires

of racial resentment, and that's not unique to Trump.

It's a defining feature of the modern GOP,

and last night's Senate primary in Alabama

is a perfect example of this.

The winner of that primary is a guy name Judge Roy Moore,

seen here yesterday riding a horse to the polling booth

to cast his vote.

And when you see a Judge Roy Moore

riding a horse to the polls, it's hard not to think,

"Is this CNN or Turner Classic Movies?"

[ Laughter ]

Moore is a darling of the far right,

known for his many years of open bigotry and homophobia.

He defied the Supreme Court decision

legalizing same-sex marriage,

and he's also called for a Muslim member of Congress

not to be seated because of his religion

and said homosexual conduct should be illegal.

Now, Trump himself endorsed Moore's opponent,

Senator Luther Strange, after repeated prodding

from the GOP establishment.

But even Trump seemed to know

that his base was really much more in line

with Moore, because at a rally in Alabama on Friday

to campaign for Strange, Trump actually admitted

that in not endorsing Moore, he might've made a mistake.

-I'm thrilled to be here with the really great person

that I've gotten to know, Luther Strange.

Luther Strange knows the true source of America's strength.

It's God, it's family, and it's country.

We're here tonight for Luther Strange.

And I might've made a mistake.

And I'll be honest -- I might've made a mistake.

-Wow. [ Laughter ]

Can you imagine Trump giving your football team

a halftime speech?

"Now let's get out there and beat the Lions,

who are frankly a better team, and I wish I was coaching them."

[ Laughter ]

"Panthers on 3 -- 1, 2, 3 -- Lions!"

[ Laughter and applause ]

And after Moore won last night,

Trump immediately offered his support,

and it makes sense that Trump is now

enthusiastically backing Moore, because Moore is very much cut

from the same cloth as Donald Trump.

He relies just as much on open bigotry as Trump

and seems to care just as little about actual policy as Trump.

Take the issue of DACA,

otherwise known as the Dreamers program,

which allows children brought here as undocumented immigrants

to stay in the country.

You'd think Moore might want to have a position on that,

but when he was asked about it recently

on an Alabama radio show, he had no idea what it was.

[ Laughter ]

Who knew how sassy Alabama radio hosts were?

[ Laughter ]

"Can you explain DACA to me?

Oh, you DA-can't?"

[ Laughter ]

Like Trump, Moore cares very little

about the nuances of policies that affect

millions of people's lives and cares much more

about riling his base through spectacle and grievance,

like on Monday, when he appeared at a rally

in a vest and cowboy hat and spoke about his support

for the Second Amendment.

-It's been very hard for my wife and myself

to weather two, nearly three months of negative ads

that we couldn't answer with money

because we didn't have it.

-Why is that?

-Ads that were completely false.

That I don't believe in the Second Amendment.

I believe in the Second Amendment.

[ Cheers and applause ]

-That's right. The Second Amendment,

which apparently gives you the right

to defend yourself against very tiny burglars.

[ Laughter ]

Took him a while to get it out.

He couldn't find it in his pocket.

"Car keys? No."

Moore and Trump both appeal to their bases

by fanning their resentments, and feeding their grievances.

For example, Moore said as recently as last year

that he still believes the racist conspiracy theory,

popularized by Trump,

that Barack Obama was not born in this country.

And Moore also believes there are towns in the U.S.

currently under Sharia law, despite the fact that

that is, of course, completely divorced from reality.

Here's the truly surreal exchange Moore had

with a reporter from the website Vox

that makes him sound like an expert on DACA.

Moore -- "There are communities under Sharia law right now

in our country, up in Illinois."

Reporter -- "Which American communities

are under Sharia law?

When did they fall under Sharia law?"

Moore -- "Well there's Sharia law as I understand it,

in Illinois, Indiana, up there, I don't know."

[ Laughter ]

Reporter -- "That seems like an amazing claim

for a Senate candidate to make."

Moore -- "Well, let me just put it this way --

If they are, they are. If they're not, they're not."

[ Laughter ]

What the hell are you talking about?

I'm starting to think that hat

is covering up a massive head wound.

[ Laughter and applause ]

"My car kicked me in the head."

[ Cheers and applause ]

So, Roy Moore is now the GOP nominee and front-runner

for a senate seat in Alabama, and if he wins,

he will join Donald Trump in making decisions

about everything from your healthcare

to national security in Washington.

This is the modern Republican party,

although modern might be the wrong word.

This is the current Republican Party.

This has been "A Closer Look."

[ Cheers and applause ]
